That's a tragedy! What annoys me most is that they keep repeating in the news "3 Germans may have died" So what? Over 20.000 people were killed!!! So sad... |
Bob The Shrek 27.12.2004 11:43 |
It's only natural - you are watching German TV, they will want to report on their own citizens first. I am sure they are not detracting from the enormity of the tragedy because of it. |

I was devastated, I had JUST sent him a package of Queen tapes, he was heading home and they would have been there for him. his parents asked me if I wanted them back and I told them no, do what you want with them, they were his. :( It chokes me up everytime I think of it. |

They're just the sort of people you might say hello to in the street if you saw them and carry on walking. I just knew them even though thier not my friends. I still obviosly hope thier alive. I'll let you know when my mum finds out because they're her friends so she'll know before me. |

When my Mum worked for Customs & Excise, she had to escort a man onto a flight because he was being deported - it was Pan Am flight 102 that crashed in Lockerbie. |

May God bless those victims of such an awful tragedy, and let's pray that they those death toll numbers won't keep raising, while the international community will arrive soon for humanitarian help. |

its not fair that assholes like Saddam are allowed to live, while innocent people die. I agree. It isn't at all fair. It's A Hard Life. I'm not having a very good time at the moment because i've fallen out with both my parents over nothing. Nothing at all. My dad woke up in a mood and has just gone to bed in a mood. Because i dont want to watch a film now and want to come on to QZ my sisters had a go at me. When stuff like this happens it really fucking pisses me off. I feel like no one likes me and everythings my fault. Or thats what my parents say. And i never do anything at all sometimes. Hopefully tomorrow they'll be happy and would have forgotten about it. |

Well folks, I'll give you the buzz, the waters around here have been absolutely shocking. Extremely choppy and larger waves coming from no where. The tide would set earlier than usual and for a very short time. I suppose it's bound to have a large casualty rate hitting India/Sri Lanka/Indonesia/Malaysia, some of the most densely populated countries in the world. Sad though. Aftershocks could claim more lives. Sad stuff. Yep, true about Pan Am Flight 103. |
Sonja 28.12.2004 02:30 |
It so unfair because you can't blame anyone.. no one can control it. They're expecting new shakes and waves anytime and no one can do anything about it. Mother nature is stronger than anything else in the world and that's damn scary! It was 9,0 on the Richter Scale. They said that's the power of 10.000 atomic bombs. Now figure that!! |

Joe Satriani: I will not diminish your pain, but if you put your problem in the prospective to what happened in Asia, you'll feel better. I'm still also trying the grasp the great tragedy that happened. Why does it always happen in the poorest countries? A few years ago, maybe 10 years ago, a tornado devastated the countries of El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, over 10,000 people died in one day. I was watching the news, they were talking about what happened and after they commented that "the price of coffee probably will rise now". I was appalled (spl?), what's the price of coffe compared to the deaths? If they would have said that a few weeks after the tragedy and I would have accepted it. I called the channel and made my comment. They treated very rudely and said that "that was news and we have the right to give the news". Now that I've taken that off my chest (phew!), I'll say that I think contributions can be made to the Thai Red Cross through the internet. |

Bob The Shrek wrote: 'innocent people always have to pay for the mistakes of high positioned masters of war... ' Err.....this was a natural disaster rememberTrue War and natural disasters are two completely different things, the only thing that both have in common is that on both innocents are the ones who take the worst part. However, I think that world leaders and those who wage for wars are to blame in this case because all the money spent on making weapons and other military expenses could help a lot as a relief of the tsunami victims in Asia, as well as helping fight poverty, hunger, and disease on third world countries. Shame on them! |
iGSM 29.12.2004 09:32 |
I'm glad that the Asian region has come together although a noted absence is North Korea. Tamil Tigers needing help, Pakistanis helping India, Aceh Rebels needing help. This maybe a blessing in disguise albeit a fucking ugly harpy bitch. |

A cousin of mine lives in Bankok with his wife and son. We haven't heard anything from him since before Christmas Day and it is a possibility that he and his family vacationed near the tsunami. Normally we wouldn't be too worried, but he and his sister kept contact every day. It's a bit worrisome here at the moment. |

i think i know why they tend to "home in on" fellow countrymen....it's because the first thing that is important to most of us is "was anyone we know hurt?" - once we have that confirmed one way or the other, we then tend to absorb the other information the thing that i'm finding hard to absorb is actually getting a mental pitcure of how many people perished when the first figures of 50k were reported i could imagine how awful it was by trying to imagine enough to fill celtic park now the figures are above 150k i can't do it - it's the worst modern-day tragedy - and i can't get ahandle on how bad it is |
Brian_Mays_Wig 02.01.2005 20:43 |
I was watching a news special on it earlier. I was gutted, I actually did shed a tear. I gave my donation yesterday. Brits have so far raised over £60.000.000 in just a week. Its only something like this that makes you realise how lucky we all actually are. Its just goes to show how things can make you sit up and realise that when you come home from work after a 'bad day', just spare a thought for everyone, not just in the devastated areas, but for friends and family who have lost someone. RIP. Sean. |
Bob The Shrek 03.01.2005 05:57 |
As you may well know I am a complete bastard, I don't do tears & sympathy all that much - and this is not an admission of changing my ways - but I made my donation last week. |
Hank H. 03.01.2005 06:13 |
What I don't like about the news reports is the way they are "promoting" the news - "biggest catastrophy of all times" etc. Of course it may help to raise money, but it just ain't true. There have been earthquakes with even more victims in the last 40 years, and not so many people seemed to be interested. Whatever, fact is, we live in pure luxury and this helped me realize it once again. It shouldn't be a problem for anyone who is able to afford an internet connection to donate some euros. |
the oppositionist 03.01.2005 11:07 |
It sounds really nasty but my cousin and his wife were in the north on holiday. As soon as one of your own may be in trouble, suddenly its even more important. Boxing day, i wonder if he was trying to tell us something... |
