No one has ever mentioned James Dean Bradfield from one of my other favourite bands - Manic Street Preachers. If you listen to their second album, he sounds very much like Freddie in some songs!
Some people even said that they were Queen copyists, but Queen weren't even one of their influences...
Without any hesitations, "Grace". It was released 10 years ago and was the only album that came out during Jeff's short life. It's a truly amazing piece.

I listened to samples of "Grace" today at the store, And I think I may have to buy it. He's a great singer! Though, I DO prefer Freddie. ;p
I have to go with Freddie Mercury...the best voice of all time. I like Jeff Buckley, but for me, second place would actually go to Rufus Wainwright.

Grace must be in the top 10 albums of all time. That man was a genius, and if he had lived, who knows how big he might have become.
I still remember the story of Jimmy Page talking about the first time he heard Jeff Buckley sing (Grace). He said he cried. I agree. Grace is superb.
That said, Freddie is my favourite :)
Thanks on the free mention of my website :P !!
In my opinion, you can't compare two diff singers singing diff styles. Both are my favourite singers of all time: Freddie is a great rock singer, and jeff is a aweeeesome pop/rock singer.
I'm still with Fred, but Jeff is a veeery close second.

Freddie is not a pop singer?? What did he do during the 80s - sing heavy metal songs?? On the other hand, Jeff Buckley is not a pop singer. Name one pop song Jeff Buckey sings. I could name you Freddie Mercury 40 pop songs.
Jeff Buckley... wow! Yeah, I love him very very much and yes he had a fantastic voice and yes Grace is one of the best albums of all time! (If you have not got it yet: go out and buy the Legacy-3cd/dvd edition of that album NOW!!!)
But although there are some similarities range-wise, there is no way in comparing their voices. Their are totally different and both as unique!
well, if you dont know jeff buckly by name, then he must be terrible right? anybody who isn't known by name around the world by all, can't possibly have a shred of talent ;)
on the other hand, the first time i heard grace, i was blown away, and i immediately thought, "this is the closest anyone has ever come to approaching the range/emotion/powere of mercury's voice"
Well, I decided to go out and buy Jeff Buckley's Grace album, and boy am I ever disappointed.
It's listenable; not horrible, but not great. It's like elevator music... very little, if anything, stood out to me. He has a pretty nice voice, but for the most part, it just didn't connect with me.
I have to say though, the intro to the first song was beautiful. He sounded very much like Freddie for a little bit (the vibrato and tone were shockingly similar!), but then the song kicked in, and I found the album to be pretty mediocre from that point onward. I turned it off after track 8, and soon relieved myself with the Yes masterpiece "Fragile".
Someone please tell me a couple songs to focus on, and I'll give Jeff another chance. Some of you are speaking pretty highly of him, so I really hope he's worth a second shot.
Hallelujah is the song most people like and know best.
Maybe you should try listening again?
I also quite like the album. Sometimes even elevator music can be good :)
