as far as music goes america is not perfect, we make spears and timberlake stars, kurt cobain is considered a musical prodigy, but he's no better than average, and yes, they don't give queen enough credit, but considering all the complaining from americans, queen are still considered one of the best of all time in america, only behind bands like the who, zep, the doors, the stones, only slightly behind those greats, meanwhile in England queen are considered gods, so we americans think they really know their music over there, which is simply not true, england might have gotten the queen thing right but are much worse in every other way. the rock and roll hall is a example of this, like roger taylor said, "where the fuck are the who" you don't here much about led zep or the who, but they make robbie stinkin williams to be better than elvis when he's not even as good as justin. i think america knows their music better than we think. |
Flashman 22.12.2004 14:19 |
Then can you kindly explain the fucking Osmonds to me? |
mike hunt 22.12.2004 14:28 |
what about em? we still put the greats where they belong, England are lost to real music, where fuck are the doors, or the who, led zep, but robbie stinkin williams is considered better than the who? are you kidding me? |
Queenleaf 22.12.2004 14:31 |
Yes, England may not be perfect but they have some damn good bands. America is so worse. |

American heroes changes more faster than English ones... Actually I can't understand the reason of discussing about USA, Taiwan or Nigeria or any other countries - what's the matter? They don't like Queen? It's up to them - I don't like their Sinatra, so what? Does it makes me the worst man in the universe? |

The UK Rock Hall voted for one artist from each decade 50's-90's, that's why the likes of Robbie Williams were voted in. 'Fuck both countries. America can kiss my ass, and England can lick it. There you go. Cheers' I'd rather lick a cows ass, it's more pleasing to the eye. |
Adam Baboolal 22.12.2004 21:48 |
The UK Hall Of Fame thing was a joke, let's face it. They had people vote them in like it was a Pop Idol show, so it was down to those at the other end of the phoneline. Sorry, but that's not a good way of going about it in my book. All I'm saying is, don't judge the UK by that programme. There are a great deal of bands that make the rounds and are well respected. But unless you read about or see them on tv, HERE in the UK, it won't be seen across the pond. That way, you have to look for 'em! Later with Jools Holland, anyone? Peace, Adam. |
LadyMoonshineDown 22.12.2004 22:16 |
Ugh..... This will be the neverending discussion over "which country has better recognition..." and blah blah blah if you ask me. Personally, I am fed up with the American music critics who praise overrated bands and give hardly any credit to those, such as Queen (duh!). I am not angry, but just annoyed at the fact that Rolling Stone tells all the American people who the "35 most influential artists" are. As for England, I could care less to be honest. I won't slander them for anything. And if you couldn't tell by my first post where I said "fuck both countries", I was joking. I wasn't trying to take sides, but from this post, you can obviously determine what side I have taken, and it isn't nessicarily Mike Hunt's. Oh well, take that seriously if you will all you Brits.....I wasn't serious. Woo. Cheers I'd rather lick a popsicle because they are yummy. Unless they are banana. |
L-R-TIGER1994 22.12.2004 22:28 |
England gave the world the biggest bands,America, mmmmmm, let me see,mmmmmmmmmm..... |
LadyMoonshineDown 22.12.2004 22:49 |
Oh yes.... All the bands America praises came straight out of England. The Beatles Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd The Who The Rolling Stones Well, those are the major ones the US sees as music gods. I have always wondered as to why, besides Queen, the Kinks never got the full praise they deserve as a band. But oh well. Anyway, before I go off into tangent land, I would like to say that I agree. The influence on our culture came strictly from England. Woo. But America still sucks as far as critics go. ;) Cheers |
mike hunt 22.12.2004 23:46 |
do you people read, i didn't say who are better musicians, i meant the fans, what people like, how underated queen are in the states is not a big deal, cos their still considered great, i'm talking about the fans taste, how people say the states don't have good taste in music, i turned it around and said englands taste in music is even worse, i don't know how you turned this into who have greater bands, they both have a great history in music. |
LadyMoonshineDown 22.12.2004 23:49 |
We know what you said Mike Hunt. We just strayed, or should I say, I strayed off into that topic. Woo, lets hear it for not really caring! *claps* Cheers |
mike hunt 22.12.2004 23:52 |
ladymoonshinedown, if your talking about the media and the critics, england and america both suck in that department. If you look at the lousy music america listens to, and compare to the lousy music england listens to, it's close but england is to or worse than america, the uk, dance music is huge, you hear nothing of great bands like "the who" or "the doors". |
LadyMoonshineDown 22.12.2004 23:57 |
I understand. But I just have this nagging annoyance when it comes to US critics. Maybe that is because our culture, pop culture I should say, is immersed within what critics deem as "worthy." Know what I mean? Cheers |
supernova190188 23.12.2004 06:33 |
OK, lets say england is removed from the world of music, we will have no robbie, but also NONE of the following great, english artists: Queen The Beatles The Who Led Zeppelin David Bowie Elton John Pink Floyd Deep Purple Iron Maiden The Doors T-Rex Partially Thin Lizzy Slade Status Quo The Rolling Stones Genesis etc etc etc Now you tell me , how good is the world of music going to be if not one of them existed |
Sebastian 23.12.2004 08:20 |
I think it's weird to judge either audiences by their charts. On paper, Las Ketchup Song (Asereje) was more succesful than any Queen song except for Bo Rhap, Under Pressure and Innuendo, because Asereje reached #1 in the UK (something that neither Champions nor Show Must Go On could). But I think, objectively, that both Champions and Show (and others like Killer Queen) are far better known in general and most likely they will be better known by next generations as well. So what does it matter a lame poll or some pointless charts? In a similar way, Usher spent six more weeks in the US #1 this year just with that shitty song than Queen in 20 years of existence. Still, it doesn't matter imo. |

I think this entire debate is pathetic - why do you all have to choose which one is worse than the other? Can we not all agree upon the fact that both the UK and the USA have, oh, I don't know, given the public GOOD music instead of bad? Who cares if one or the other has better. |
love of my life 14018 23.12.2004 11:14 |
Well, at least both countries seem to agree on one point, you know. Well, not including the American teenagers, I honestly cannot think of a bad enough expletive for them. The Beatles are the best. :P *Ducks and runs for cover* |

America is the home of black music. They will probably always have the best hip hop scene in the world, no one can ever top that. But England is the home of the legends, the real good music. I'm a big England fan anyway so I better shut up... |
Sebastian 23.12.2004 12:14 |
I'm quite sure Doors are Yanks, at least Jim was born in Melbourne, Florida, and I distinctly remember that because a friend though he had been born in Melbourne, Oz. Btw 20% of the original GnR is also British |
Gunpowder Gelatine 23.12.2004 15:04 |
The thing I hate about America is how easily talentless popstars can find success. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton all have recording contracts, even though none of them possess any musical talent whatsoever. It's starting to be about who can buy themselves a record deal rather than who's actually deserves one. |
QueenZeppelin 23.12.2004 16:24 |
Both countries have their hits and misses. Obviously, Great Britain has lived up to the "great" in their name by producing the bulk of the better music artists. I'd say the British are better. However, take into considerationt who they were influenced by; The Beatles took leads from Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Queen took cues from Little Richard and Aretha Franklin, among other various aspects of the culture. Led Zeppelin loved the American blues The Rolling Stones derived off of American R&B funk and swagger. Eric Clapton highly praises Robert Johnson. And so on. See what I mean? And many of the artists America has produced take cues from our British friends. Jimi Hendrix practically called the UK home. Guns N' Roses worshipped Zep and Queen. Most any rock or pop band over here notes British influences like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, etc... I would say America produces a lot more shit then Britain does. But take into consideration teeny boppers, hillbillies, extremist right-wing conservatives, idiots etc... Eliminate them and you have people with the same type of music tastes as the British do. |

I don't like the Stones, or Zep, Sex Pistols,or any so called legendary rock pre-70's, i think Nirvana are heavily overrated but i love some of their songs and i luv Robbie and Queen and Muse and woteva! I love a lot of American bands, i'm even a fan of the band Live! It's MY opinion, so everybody should have their own opinions on who his the greatest in their own world and music collection and not some asshole critic of a mediocre magazine as NME or Q or fucking Rolling Stone of course or these stupid top this top that list that are thrown almost every week at us. What's the use of a music review anyway?? It's the opinion of 1 man/woman, ridiculous, i buy these magazines for the nice pics and interviews. ps. don't put Robbie in the same sentence as Britney and Justin, Robbie writes his OWN music and he's fucking brilliant at it! He has proven himself over the years so people who say he's a teeny idol is a fucking retard he's an artist! |
Zander05 24.12.2004 02:05 |
Music today as a whole sucks. To be big in the industry doesn't even require real talent anymore. Just make sure you have an older sibling, or relative in general, and ride their coat tails to the top. It used to be, you could look way worse than Mick Jagger and STILL get a strong fan base and groupies because you rocked. Now, you have to look good and make some dumbass publicity stunt (when you're an older music icon, you do a sexual stunt i.e. Janet's "costume malfunction" or Britney and Madonna's kiss) to get noticed. There isn't even a new sound! You just do the same boring crap the first guy was doing and you're a success! And even if they do make a really good, catchy song, it's going to be played and worn out. But, because they're idiots, they're going to keep using that same pattern on every CD to come. THAT'S why Queen rocked is because they did things on their own terms and experimented and tried new sounds. America is pretty much told what to like nowadays. Queen is too old for my age group and they're not trying to be modern (yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!). And this makes me kind of happy that Queen aren't as big anymore. I'd rather them be considered geniuses of the classic rock era than try to be modern. The last thing anyone from the UK or USA needs is to see Queen try to make it in today's "music." |
Lord Blackadder 24.12.2004 07:38 |
WE didn't put Robbie Williams in the hall of fame. All the women who fancy him put him there. It's not 'coz of his music, it's how he looks. AND if you think, most of the greatest music artists are from England. Queen, Bowie, Zeppeiln, Beatles, Stones, Elton, The Who and more. America gave us The Beach Boys, Guns 'N' Roses (exept our Slash) and Blondie. They are the only U.S bands who I really think are brilliant. And nowadays most of the best are from the U.K. The Darkness, Franz Ferdinand etc. |
Banshee 24.12.2004 12:04 |
JJWE wrote: U2:s edge is English manCool! I didn't know that! Always nice to learn something new. :) Btw, no argument about The Who ... But Elvis and The Rolling Stones will have to stand in the shadow of Queen. Elvis didn't write songs and didn't even know how to play the guitar. The same thing goes for The Rolling Stones with that Keith Richards... |
FairyQueen 24.12.2004 12:13 |
I hate it when people bitch about whose country is worse or better..how about this....every country sucks in their own special way....but, England and America aren't bad either... so let's leave it at this...today..the music from America and England both suck...pop is crappier than it has ever been...but what I've noticed is that in England, talentless boy and girl groups still sell Ex)Girls Aloud and Blue..in America, that fad is over...that crap wouldn't make money now..little kiddies are now into Avril and Good Charlotte...but I have hope...but America produces crappy gangster rap with an infectious beat..which makes people like me dance to it and not pay attention to the lyrics which most likely have to deal with ho's and pimps droppin' it like it's hott..but it's hilarious how a lot these rappers talk about BedStuy and their old neighborhood...funny because it's really damn close to where I live...but, it's even more hilarious to see a person like Dizee Riscal become popular in England...I guess that's as close to making rap England can get...that guy couldn't make it in America even though they ran his video a few times on MTV2.It didn't work because rapping with a British accent doesn't sound right...and here, it's taken as a joke....I only have hope in a few bands and people....but, I guess that's better than nothing in this monotonous pile of crap we call music... |

This is a dumb comparsion, first off, Music nowadays are not the same as back in the 70's and 80's when music WAS MUSIC! Now, like someone said in a past reply said America is nothing but boy bands/girl bands, that look good, no music, no talent, lip synching, and I'm sure it's the same over the big pond! Music will never be the same as back then, I seen TONS of concerts and my favorite was when Queen played in 1980 in Cleveland, and the '82 Hot Space tour, which the Cleveland press said Billy Squier (who i liked) would steal the show, but in the press, the next day, they praised Queen for stealing the show! And really kept the fans from leaving after the Billy Squier set...... Rolling Stone magazine hated Queen, which i NEVER read it no more cuz of that, but they jump on the bandwagon with one hit wonders and stupid overrated bands in the states, and i'm sure in England as usual! Music will never be the same ANYWHERE with all the techical stuff set up in the studios, and who no's lip syncing at concerts (as Elton John said).... Music was music back then and will never be compared to todays music, so why the bother to compare! Not worth the effort...cuz it would never be the same......... Van Halen w/o David Lee Roth is'nt the same Rolling Stones w/o Bill Wyman not the same Lynard Skynard not the same Pink FLoyd w/o Roger Waters/Syd Barrett, no... etc, etc... btw even after that, If Roger and Brian w/Paul Rodgers and hopefully John, comes to the state I would go.....just to get a opporunity, but wishful thinking, meet either one of them........ and the Las Vegas WWRY Muscial is out of site.... Sure it's not the same and will never be without Freddie or John, but yesterday is history, today is today and tomorrow is unknown........ Everyone have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! and hope all your dreams come true for the New year! |
