Yes! There's going to be a movie based on Freddie's life. I'm not sure when exactly it comes out, but probably in a year or two. They haven't started filming it yet. The guy from Will & Grace is going to play Freddie. |
LadyMoonshineDown 07.12.2004 00:31 |
What guy??? And it will premiere in the states? cheers |
mike hunt 07.12.2004 00:34 |
your full of it, i havn't heard anything about that. |
mike hunt 07.12.2004 00:43 |
but sure would be great if it's true and it played in the states. |
iGSM 07.12.2004 01:20 |
Sean Hayes.. and not by the looks of it due to there not even being an 'in pre-production' of it. |
LadyMoonshineDown 07.12.2004 01:41 |
Well.... Lets hope it is actually going to happen. Then I can go and take my bucket of fried chicken to the movie theatre and munch while I watch this movie. Woo, heh. Cheers |
Paula46 07.12.2004 03:42 |
What?? Are this serious? Where did you read it? |
Monte: Liquorice Years 07.12.2004 04:17 |
Oh my god! I love the guy from Will & Grace... he's so cool...i just watched that show! he makes me laugh. I hope they do make a movie...it'd be awesome! |
pouria 07.12.2004 04:56 |
OMG I hope it better not happen because we already have enought trouble with poeple who think Queen's Music is about homosexuallity already, now just imagine that a movie will be release about freddie's personal life and again we'll face something like whatr happened after release of IWBF in 1980's. I don't think that's a very good idea, at least not US. |
LadyMoonshineDown 07.12.2004 11:20 |
I can see what you mean.... But then again, I cannot. Here in the US, we have (for a large portion) stupid white men (forgive that stereotype, but it fits so well) that are soooooo tied to the hetero movement that having this movie come out about Freddie's life would overshadow the great music they had. But.... Having a movie about his life could be a good thing. Who are we to say what the movie will bring or even be? We make these assumptions (because most of the time, they are correct) but we make them not fully knowing if a movie is even going to come out. If it does, I won't have a problem with it, but it might create some anti-gay things to arise. If you live in the States, then you probably know what I mean. And yes MarchofthedirtQueen.....you can share with me. woo. cheers |
KittyCat 07.12.2004 11:53 |
yeah :o)....I read about that and looking forward for the movie :o)))... |

Sean Hayes hmmmmmmmmmmm I can see him doing the "MOVES", but it'll just be weird for him to play Freddie. |
Josuè 07.12.2004 13:06 |
Ain't gonna be a Freddie's film, be sure. |
Boy Thomas Raker 07.12.2004 13:09 |
Not true. It's an old rumour, and it'd be Eric McCormack, not Sean Hayes in the title role. |

I'm not gonna watch it. It will definitely focus (90%) on Freddie being gay and leave everything else out. It's like the bloody Untold Story that's only message seemed to be "Freddie was very gay, everything he did was gay. Freddie was gay". |

so i see the musical has gotten in the way once again, it would have been a reality if it weren't for brian being so involved with the musical. |
Queenette=1 08.12.2004 01:12 |
Okay! Where did you get your information from, and what is the name of the movie? And if this does actually happen I know I am going to Love it, but I do understand about the sterotype-ing about gays. Long Live Queen-ette! |
mike hunt 08.12.2004 01:53 |
they never got so far as to name the movie, they never got to that stage, it's just an idea, i believe if you look on the first page of this thread someone left a website where the actor who would play freddie is being interviewed and he mentions it. |
rachael mae. 08.12.2004 02:38 |
I heard about this a little while ago and I think that if Eric McCormack could portray Freddie well enough, it might just work. |
Brianmay1975 08.12.2004 07:43 |
I'd love to see a movie about Freddie's life and I know I'm not gonna be bothered by the gay side of the story (it'd be disturbing only if it focused only on Freddie's sex-life, that and nothing else, because Freddie was a man, not a sex robot, and he did far more in his lifetime than having sex, e.g., he wrote the best song ever)... Btw, I think there's too much fuss about gay characters in movies. I've heard that Oliver Stone's movie about Alexander the Great has made Greeks very angry for depicting the great ruler as a homosexual. I ain't seen it yet, as it'll get to my country only in January 2005, but I do doubt this film is only about Alexander's gay lovers. I've got the feling it's an exaggerated point of view and people are kinda obsessed with this problem... |

This story was on popbitch.com a few months ago. Was disproved on that board as a misquote from Eric McCormack who was talking about a different project and the interview then turned to music and he said that he admired Freddie. Off the top of my head thats all I can remember the newsletter has long since been deleted from my inbox. |

Well I should know better than to rely on my notoriously bad memeory (see above post). Don't have the popbitch newsletter anymore and they don't archive old threads or let you search their site. However a quick google search reveals what I think was the original article that sparked the popbitch debate. Make of it what you will..... Dated 11 November 2004 "There have also been persistent rumours that he would portray Freddie Mercury in a film biography of the flamboyant Queen frontman. McCormack said he started the project by approaching David Furnish, Elton John's partner, who went to McCormack's high school in Toronto. "I wouldn't say it's no longer in discussion, but since the Queen musical, We Will Rock You, opened in London and Vegas, that's been where the attention has been focussed," he said. McCormack recently had a chance to collaborate with another of his musical heroes, Barry Manilow, co-writing and performing an original song for the Will & Grace soundtrack CD. "I e-mailed him the lyrics and literally 48 hours later, there was a song. "Originally, I had wanted to have Elton John and Sean Hayes and I to do a remake of 'It's Raining Men,' as The Weatherboys. And it almost happened, too. "But this was quite amazing. Really, the ultimate 'fantasy camp' experience. "It seems I'm checking them all off the list, one by one." See the article at: link Edit: I've also just noticed that they quote is exactly the same as given in the link on the first page to the Toronto Star. Canada must have only a few journalists!! |

I don't think that they should use the guy from Will and Grace because he doens't look like freddie, they should use my uncle, because he looks like freddie, just he wouldn't want to do that job becuase he is strongly against homosexaulity. |
AllDeadAllDead 08.12.2004 16:00 |
i was watching will and grace last night, and looking at will in light of this rumor, and actualy, i thin he could do the physical performance. but as the voice (speaking, not signing of course) im not sure. i dont think the fact that he plays a gay character on a sitcom, is why he would consider the project, or why hed be good for the role. in my opinion, ive thought long and hard about this, since ive been waiting for them to make a fm movie for a while, you need an incredible, and intense actor, and i think with the right performance intesity they wont need to look much like fred. |
deleted user 08.12.2004 16:10 |
That would be exciting, but it would likely focus on Freddie's sex life and portray Freddie as a stereotypical gay. However, if the movie were made by a small indie production company, it would likely be very good. Because indie films dont sensationalize everything to get people to see them. They target a small audience and don't really care about luring everyone else into the theatre. |
lyricalassasin77 09.12.2004 14:45 |
I think it would be great if there was such a thing as a movie about Freddie. I do think that though some of you are a little too worried about the gay thing though. I really don't believe with all Freddie accomplished in his life that they would devote a great deal of the movie exploring his sexuality. I haven't heard the first thing though of this movie, makes me wonder where you get your information from that's for sure. Who knows they might spend just as much time on his relationship with Mary Austin, cuz Freddie was known to have his share of women also remember that..........Peace |
Cecilia 25.12.2004 00:02 |
i haven't heard it before. When is it on? |
Dances With Freddie 25.12.2004 05:45 |
How is it possible to make a movie about Freddie's life? a movie is supposed to last for like 2 hours. they can't make a Freddie-movie that lasts less than four or five days. though Freddie's life wasn't very long, a lot of things happened and no way they can make that into a average-lasting movie.... and btw no-one can play Freddie IMO. he was too special in every way. |

And it sure didn't even last 10 hours... |

"then how did they manage to make movies-s-s-s-SSSS (plural!) about the bible?" not only did a lot of things happen, but Freddie also changed his looks alot. just think of the glamrock-look and the '79 leather-look and the wembley-look and so on and so on.... they can't squeeze that into one movie and at the same time avoid massive history jumping if you see what I mean.... whatever. that's what I'm worried about, if I'm worried at all. really, I'm not. |
Cecilia 26.12.2004 18:04 |
i think its very stupid idea because of the actors!!! and everybody knows Freddie's life except not queen fans. So i would like to say its just such a stupid idea. Well actually its great i dea but.. okay what ever |
Darling39 02.01.2005 22:56 |
I really don't think the gay thing will be an issue. I mean, this would be the story, if done correctly, of a human being who worked through intense personal struggles and still made it to the top of the world, the lap of the gods. And I don't think there will be protests or anything, I mean, the story of Mercury being gay is old news to the world. People shouldn't and hopefully won't make a big deal about it. I think that if done properly, showing all the facets of Mercury's life, it will be a joy for anyone to see. It's easy to not like someone for one facet of their life, but when you look at the whole picture, you have to love them, because they're human, just like you. I <3 you Freddie |
