Just wondering waht you guys think is Bri's best riff? - eg the start of Hammer to fall, or Tie your mother down |
Serry... 06.12.2004 10:24 |
A lot of them... Keep Yourself Alive, Jesus... etc. |
rogut 06.12.2004 11:04 |
Hmmm - tough one. i'd have to go for the opening bit of "Princes of the Universe"...great stuff ! |
brian_may_wannabe 06.12.2004 11:15 |
Tie Your Mother Down. Very different. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 06.12.2004 11:56 |
Hammer To Fall and Tie Your Mother Down are classics, but I also love Stone Cold Crazy. |
Banshee 06.12.2004 12:17 |

Scirocco1977 06.12.2004 12:52 |
Actually, It's late sate a bit like Hammer to Fall only played slower... So, I gotta go with both... Tie Your mother down and Now I'm here are two riffs I want to play if I ever get the chance to learn the guitar... |
kohuept 06.12.2004 13:35 |
Hey Scirocco, glad you mentioned the similarity between HtF and IL. Just listen to the slow version from the Queen's day show and the LA gig. Very similar! Very cool! Personally, I like Cyborg and, for Queen, Ogre Battle (even though Freddie wrote it). |

I am really confused by some of the responses for example people liking Jesus(the song not the person) and thinking that songs like great king rat have clearly defined riffs. Queen did not do riff rock with a few notable exceptions. Tie your mother down is probably the closest thing they had to a rff heavy song. Oh and someone mentioned Ogre battle, it wasn't Brian's riff by the way. |
Small Nob 07.12.2004 15:40 |
Tie your Mother down. That riff screams, "If you don't like the key of A, I'll kick your arse!" Hello, everyone. |
Brianmay1975 07.12.2004 15:59 |
Roger_in_Tigerskin_Trousers wrote: Oh and someone mentioned Ogre battle, it wasn't Brian's riff by the way.Well, I think it was Brian's riff after all, twas he the one who played it. |
Penetration_Guru 07.12.2004 16:14 |
But Fred wrote it. It's HIS riff, as is the heavy part of Bo Rhap. |
KingMercury 07.12.2004 17:32 |
hey people all those riffs are great (HTF,TYMD,BOHRAP, etc) but i woould like to add the riff of "was it all worth it" i think it's one of the best |
Lord Blackadder 07.12.2004 18:04 |
Tie Your Mother Down - Totally underrated as a song and a riff. Brian's finest song in my opinion. I just love it. The Times Newspaper said it was "Sheer Bloody Poetry". Couldn't have said it better myself! |
Rotwang 07.12.2004 18:42 |
Need Your Lovin Tonight Tie Your Mother Down Stone Cold Crazy |
Penetration_Guru 07.12.2004 19:58 |
Er...wasn't that Times quote a joke? given that it appeared on the album cover and TYMD wasn't an advance single... |
Want To Live Forever 08.12.2004 00:27 |
it's late Stone cold crazy tear it up (i like it live) on this one i really think this IS a riff cause Brian wasn't really a riff guy |
crowley 08.12.2004 04:02 |
I don't know if I anyone mentioned "Bijou" - fantastic guitarwork! |

Brian's a real virtuoso. Almost everything he touch turns to gold. |
Lord Blackadder 08.12.2004 06:37 |
Sorry, i forgot to mention Fat Bottomed Girls. That's another underrated song and riff. I love the start live with the vocal barrage then this huge riff just kicks in. Great stuff. |
freddie02 08.12.2004 06:57 |
yes Bijou is probably the best ! |
freddie02 08.12.2004 06:57 |
