what style of queen does everyone like better, music, concerts, appearance, etc? |
Gunpowder Gelatine 28.11.2004 23:11 |
I like both, but for music, it would have to be the 70's, especially since there were almost double the albums released in the 80's. Also, the quality was more consistent on earlier albums, even though I love the 80's, too. For concerts, I think it just depends on the tour. The setlists were more varied in the 80's, though, since they obviously had more material to work with. As for appearances, both eras have their positives and negatives. :) |

*WARNING: WHAT YOU READ IS AN OPINION, SO TO THOSE WHO ARE EASILY OFFENDED, YOU CAN GO PISS UP A ROPE.* I appreciate all of Queen, but just like any other human, I have favorites and least favorites. Musically, I'd choose the 70's Queen over the 80's. I'm not a fan of synths, and their music seemed to be more genuine as far as composition goes. But that doesn't mean I hate their 80's stuff. Just not as big of fan. Appearance? Um....they could have buckets of shit dumped all over them *no pun intended* and I would still love their music. Queen, for the most part, were better in the 70's.... |

70's, cos 80's queen is crap, you know garbage. |

I prefer thier seventies music and appearance more than the eighties. i'm not too keen on the synthesizers or electric drum kits on hot space. I like the later eighties better than the early eighties. best albums from eighties are... 1) The Miracle 2) A Kind Of Magic 3) Flash Gordon 4) The Works 5) Live Magic 6) The Game. |
Brimon 29.11.2004 07:17 |
Appearence, I would have to go for the 80's. Musically, I'm really split here, impossible to choose. Concerts, well my favourite was the Crazy Tour. |
supernova190188 29.11.2004 08:37 |
MUSIC - Slight 70's advantage at the moment CONCERTS - 80's (the bigger the better) APPEARANCE - hard but i'm saying 80's at the moment, but likely to change depending on mood at the moment and for past month i've been in 70's mode |
Megamike The GREAT 29.11.2004 09:07 |
Well, I would have to say 70's Queen as well.. ALTHOUGH I saw them live in 1980 and Their concert was the greatest one I have seen.. The set list of that time showed that they were on TOP of their Game.. but as far as Album material, the 70s outshined the 80's stuff by a landslide.. OF COURSE I am not saying the stuff they did in the 80s was pure crap... I did enjoy their music... I DO enjoy their music.. |

I like Queen in every stage of their career! If they'd stayed 70s Queen they would have been dead boring and stuck in a time-warp. 80s Queen were Performing Queen, endless tours and changing images (again). Fun videos. Queen Gone Solo. Then End of Queen after the dawn of a new decade (the 90s); death of Freddie, flight of John into oblivion. And again change: Tribute Concert, Made In Heaven, more solo efforts. Cut to the Millennium: The Musical (changing images again!). Re-releases of old material and new DVD compilations. Fans still complaining after more than a decade: where's the tour and new material? Queen (or Half Of) are still ever-changing. Can't wait to see what new projects lie ahead for the rest of the decade! |

I think 70's was their best era. Their music generally seemed a lot better back then and I think the 70's was when Freddie was at his best with the lovely long hair etc. |

My favorite queen is the seventies also, they seemed more raw and heavy. I love the eighties also, especially the game album. However for the longest time i absolutely HATED hot space, but as I am getting a little older, i have a new respect for them trying something a little different. No matter what Queen is the best... |
My Melancholy Blues 29.11.2004 13:32 |
I prefer "No Synthesizer", outrageous, flamboyant, extravagant, more theatrical Queen, that is '70s Queen, which was ditinguished from others and very Queenish. But year by year, '80s Queen have been getting more attractive to me. Because year by year, I've felt their matured skill in their '80s. And I've also felt their spirit for changing not being still in their attempt to mix their peculiarity and pop music or black contemporary, which made me(us) sometimes confused, but amazed. Anyway they never made me bored. I always appreciate the way they challenged other directions. I respect their huge power of '80s which attracted tens of thousands of people in the stadium. They already had such a peculiar power in the late '70s which was less than the one of '80s, of course... After all, Queen are always Queen to me in many ways. However, I prefer glam Queen... |

Best decade: 1970's Best tour: Sheer Heart Attack or News Of The World Best Concert: Rainbow 20/11/1974 |

SHA1980, Hot Space will grow on you. It gets better with each listen! When it first came out, I used to cringe when listening to it (a lot of my friends called it "power disco" or "Queendiscomania") but after listening to it a lot (and I mean a LOT), I could listen to it with no cringing whatsoever, in fact I like it tremendously now...but it took over 20 years to achieve that!! |

the both each era has his enchantment queen was one of those few bands who knew how to change they are 4 genius and thats why queen will never die |
mike hunt 29.11.2004 22:04 |
the way i see it, queen were in their musical and songwriting prime in the 70's, but continued to grow and put good music out, and their live performes continued to grow till they became larger than life, (especially freddie), it also depends on taste since queen changed so dramatically over the years, that's why you get so many different opinions, also is the reason i think they truly were better than the typical rock band example AC/DC who put out the same stuff all the time. Queen kept changing, which i think was a good thing. |

Man,I luv Queen especially in 75-77 era. That rox my sox.Especially.....R-O-G-E-R T-A-Y-L-O-R.What's that? Roger Taylor!!!!.Freddie was also ace too you know. But I don't really like Queen in the 90s.I think Queen is changing themselves from a hard rock band to an alternative band or pop band,I guess. What do you guys think:) |
Flo Joe 30.11.2004 14:52 |
I prefer the 70s...if I compare the whole stage acting, outfits, show, energy and songs! |

mike hunt wrote: 70's, cos 80's queen is crap, you know garbage.WHAAAAAAAATT?????????? Holy shit! You're that guy that was pissed at everyone for not being supportive of certain Queen music; saying that calling some of Queen's stuff "shit" and "crap" is wrong. When you were bashing everybody else, did you exlude yourself from that equation? I thought you had very good points, until I read the comment above. You TOTALLY just lost my respect. |
karen 01.12.2004 00:48 |
Well I am going to sit on the fence - I like Queen from both era's - different songs for different moods. If they did the same stuff all the time they wouldn't have such a large & varied fan base. That was their thing - they always did something different. I didn't like Freddie's look with the mo' but now it has grown on me. Someone once described Queen's different styles thus: '70's - juveniles '80's - adults '90's - more matured or something along those lines. I like watching the really early stuff becasue it gives me an idea where they came from when they were young and fresh and new... |
karen 01.12.2004 00:51 |
That is, the look has grown on me - not the mo' LOL |
mike hunt 01.12.2004 00:57 |
yea, i admit i like both, it's hard to say, Queen were in their musical prime in the glam era, but it's good to see them grow as you grow, like fred said, if he had the long hair in his late thirties into his early forties it would have looked stupid, so it was interesting to see them grow throughtout the years. |
mrbadguy86 01.12.2004 10:10 |
I dont understand why people dislike Queen 80's so much!?:S it was in the 80's Queen really seld records, had HUGE concerts and was one of the musicindustries MOST popular band!! |
Roger_in_Tigerskin_Trousers 01.12.2004 12:45 |
I'm astounded this many people have said they prefer 80s Queen. I really am. How can you prefer their synth heavy pop rock of albums like AKOM to multi-tracked harmonized albums like Queen 2? Rock ceased to exist in the 80s in general and especially with Queen. Even if you don't like rock, how can you prefer their softer songs/ballads of the 80s to those that were made in the previous decade. Teo toriatte or just one year of love? I know which one I'd go for. (Teo Toriatte in case you hadn't guessed) |

i LOVE all Queen!!! ALL MUSIC ALL CONCERTS, ALL ERA'S(Barring the ebarrasing things brian & roger are doing in the name of Queen) |
deleted user 01.12.2004 17:19 |
nothing to do with their music but i will just have to mention: they were more groomed in the 80's but i loved freddies long hair and black nails in the 70's i think the 70's would hav to be it for me. raw queen. freddie was dying in the 80's so it sort of puts a downer on things (sorry freddie) |
Matti 01.12.2004 21:31 |
I like their 70's looks better. |
