where are the real Queen fans?
| mike hunt 27.11.2004 19:50 |
I'v been with this site now for about 2 months, read alot of garbage. My question to you is there any real Queen fans in this site? I mean, lets get this straight, anything after 1976 is garbage, the game, hot space, the works, magic, the miracle, made in heaven are all crap according to everone in this site. obviously queen were good, but according to most of you, not great. how can a great band put out so much garbage, and you call yourself fans. this rant is not for everyone in this site, there's some great fans here, but not to many. I never hear so many other fans bitch about their favorite bands music, led zep, the who, the stones, their beloved by their fans, nobody is gonna tell me the songs on made in heaven are not great, A winters tale, mother love, love will kill you and many more. I never heard queen put out crap, like most of you seem to think. and by the way The works is a great album. |

You should've come 2 years ago more or less,it used to be full of Queen fans. |
| AlexRocks 27.11.2004 19:58 |
I agree. I like everything! Including the solo projects! |

I have to agree with you about some fans knocking Queen's later music. I'm a Queen fan because of the fact they never got boring. I was alway's excited when a new record was released because I knew it would sound different from their previous release. The only thing I didn't like about Made in Heaven was that it was released after Freddie's death. It would have been great to hear him perform those songs live. |
| mike hunt 27.11.2004 20:15 |
I'm not saying it's so horrible to have a queen album you don't like, i also like judas priest and there are a couple albums that i'm not crazy about, but it seems every album after a day at the races gets bashed, like it's the worst music on the planet. how can you say all those albums are garbage than come on a site like this and call yourself a fan. by the way, it's magic! |
| Agnieszeq 27.11.2004 20:18 |
Well, I've noticed lately that criticising and bitching about is very fashionable on this forum. When someone says sth good about Queen he/she's being called 'pathetic' (very popular word on this site...). Then everybody wants to be cool and even when has nothing important to say, always has to be sarcastic or sth. Well, I don't like most of "The Works" and "Hot Space" either and I know that not everything Queen did is wonderful, but when I say so, I try to give my reasons not just some stupid comments. I don't think that if someone is criticising sth queen did, he's not the real fan. Very stupid to say so. We can't be narrow-minded fanatics, who defend everything Queen did, even if it's not worth it. But when we criticize without meaningful reasons, don't we look like some idiots, kind of... A: "Why don't you like it?"-B: "Because I don't." |
| LadyMoonshineDown 27.11.2004 20:39 |
Hmmm.... I don't recall ever calling their stuff after 1976 garbage. In fact....I never have. Ever. I know others do, but if they were not real queen fans, I don't think they would be here. Cheers. |
| mike hunt 27.11.2004 20:47 |
i'm not saying if you don't like an album or two your not a true fan, but there's so called fans on this site that put down more than half there albums than say there fans, like i said, Queen at this point are a passion for me, and i don't expect everyone to agree with everything i like, (by Queen is just about everything) but how can you claim Queen were great, then put down most of their albums. A band like priest i love most of their albums and there's couple i don't like, but the majority i love, on this site some, not all fans put down the majority, without mentioning names, but i know who they are. others like electric and a few others i could talk about Queen for days straight with. |

moonshinedown rules |
| LadyMoonshineDown 27.11.2004 20:55 |
I guess I can understand that... But I haven't read anything like that yet, so I don't know. I, for the most part, love all of Queen's albums, but if I had to choose which era was better, I would choose their 70's era. That is just a matter of taste, but it is all great. Um...Moonshinedown rules? What are you referring to? lol,jk. |
| KillerQueen840 27.11.2004 20:57 |
I'm a true Queen fan!!!! The only album I really don't care too much for is Hot Space..but I still like it! I have always loved Queen and since the past few years I have become totally obsessed with them. |
| mike hunt 27.11.2004 21:00 |
alright, so mabe i went bit overboard, let me say minority of fans on this site make me crazy, the majority are true blue, and i agree the first six queen albums are vintage Queen, there's no questioning that, but they always put out great music, Queen2, ANATO, sheer heart attack, ADATR, NOTW pretty much in any order. |
| LadyMoonshineDown 27.11.2004 21:25 |
Hey, it's alright. We go overboard in things. I know I kinda did in that post about the amazon reviews.....anyway... There are people here who do not understand that loving a band means loving all of it. It's just like loving a person. Bad with the good, but the bad isn't even that bad really. Cheers |
| Penetration_Guru 27.11.2004 21:30 |
OK, I'll try and explain this in small words, but I'm quite intelligent, so the odd three syllable one might slip through. Do your best. IT'S NOT THE SAME PEOPLE THAT BASH EVERYTHING. Some people don't like Hot Space, some feel that A Kind OF Magic is quite a weak album, some say that The Miracle is terrible. Some don't like Machines, some don't like Friends Will Be Friends, some think Was It All Worth It needs more guitar & less synth. Got it? On the other hand, all of the bove (except one) applies to me, and yet oddly enough, I'd still say I was a "proper" "real" "genuine" Queen fan. The fact that I don't love everything they ever did means (in my view) that I am able to think for myself, and judge things based on their merits and not my own preconceptions. Finally a question for you, my cunt. Tell us all how you feel about Bohemian Rhapsody as heard on Live Magic? Good or bad - no shades of grey. |
| Queenette=1 28.11.2004 01:21 |
Koudoes to you Mike Hunt, someone else who feels like I do about all the cutting down about a few songs or albums. I personally don't cut down any of there music. To me it is the BEST you can get! Cheers Mike! |
| LadyMoonshineDown 28.11.2004 01:25 |
Why can't we all just get along? Haha....that was my inner hippie obviously trying to escape. Nevermind that, and keep the rants coming. It is enjoyable to read them. Cheers |
| Melancholy Blues 28.11.2004 02:21 |
i like the entire queen catalogue. Though their sound changed alot from the seventies to the eighties and nineties i think this was a good think. If they only made one type of music(like most people)they would have got boring. They stayed interested in music by doing new things. I think made in heaven is just as good if not better than one of their earlier albums. |
| Wouter 28.11.2004 05:11 |
What is a real fan? Being a real fan includes being critical about the band you love as well. Not being able to criticize is called "fanatic". Let's use a simile: if you're in school and you always get A's, then you're considered to be very smart. If, at one time, you get a B-, you would have done poorly. Is a B- bad? No, not really, it's only not what you're up to, you're able to do better than that. Same goes for Queen. I think their first albums showed what they were up to, and not all the later albums fulfilled the expectations. They're probably not bad at all, but compared to the earlier albums, they are. That's one point. The second is that I don't have to like changes in style. The game and Hot Space are much more disco than Queen II or ANATO. I don't like disco, but I do like symphonic music, and therefore it's perfectly understandable why I don't like certain albums. And besides, the other bands that were named in this tiopic have the same problems. I know lots of fans who only like the early work of the Stones (including myself), and the same goes for The Who and Led Zep. |
| GiantSpider 28.11.2004 06:34 |
Queen put out some great stuff after '76. AOBTD was Queen's biggest selling song ever & that came in '80. People should not jump on the band wagon & slate Queen's later stuff (I say later ADATR was only their 5th albumn) just 'cause someone else does. |

i'm a real queen fan since 13 years ago. i like everything queen did (music, videos, etc) but i agree there are people who think that everything queen did after 1980 is crap. i think queen is one of the 3 best bands on the earth, and if they sound different after 1980, is because queen knew how to change. there were bands who did always the same kind of music, and that's because they failed. queen keeped always his style, but they knew how to change his music trough the years. |
| My Melancholy Blues 28.11.2004 13:32 |
Indeed! I agree with you KingMercury! I love the way they challenged other new directions. I love their strugglings. Anyway, Queen were always Queen. |

it's good to have newbies, it means younger cats are getting into Queen, it's a good thing. |

The thing I don't like when someone's saying 'Board becomes boring, stupid questions, rude newbies' - hey, guys, why don't you ask clever questions and not trying to be polite with those newbies? I agree with you, Mike. I wonder why some of Queen fans who don't like Hot Space have only one word to describe that album: 'shit' (well two words: shit or crap) - they can't call it 'bad', 'not good', 'less interesting than others', no way - only crap or shit! |
| love of my life 14018 28.11.2004 15:53 |
Hey, now! I confess that I don't love everything Queen ever did, but that doesn't mean I'm not a fan. Lets see, I love Jazz, The Game, The Works, Innuendo. Magic is OK, Who Wants To Live Forever is one of my favorite Queen songs, but the rest of the material there just isn't great. I don't have The Miracle or Made In heaven yet, so I can't comment there. Hot Space, I can't get excited about, the album has three good songs, IMO. I just don't like that funk type music very much. But I still love Queen........... |
| Rich Tea 28.11.2004 16:01 |
There was a point in my younger days when if Freddie had farted in a bucket and Queen had released it as a single I would have bought it! I actually thought they had when Body Language came out!! I lost a bit of interest with Hot Space but they won me back big time with The Works. I actually like HS now although it took about 10 years to grow on me. Ofcourse opinions are like arseholes everybody has one and everybodys is different! I have found that even if I don't like a particular song I can still appreciate it for what it is! |

I love every Queen album. Absolutely every one. I'm not quite so keen on hot space but i love every album even hot space just not as much as the others. I'm listening to Soul brother now. I've never classed any of their albums as crap. Especialy not The Miracle, Innuendo or Made In Heaven. Thier my favorite albums. Every album is great! I like em all! Soul Brothers just finished i'm listening to Hijack My Heart now. |

perhaps you should scrub the name of the title of this thread and replace it with "Snivelling Stepfords". What's more is the board has always been as it is today, filled with banal, anal retentive people posting ridiculous threads about whose arse is the tightest etc. Get over it or piss off to Queenonline, nobody's forcing you to stay. For what it's worth I think Friends Will eb Friends is arse, and trying to compare the studio version of Staying Power to Bohemian Rhapsody et al is a rather futile plan. That is of course if you catch my drift. |
| Lester Burnham 28.11.2004 23:45 |
My name is Lester Burnham. I became a Queen fan in 1992, after I saw that Freddie died. My mom gave me Hot Space to listen to, but I never did. The summer of 1993, I got News Of The World as a birthday present and played it endlessly. It wasn't until that fall that I got Classic Queen; for nearly two months, all I listened to was News Of The World. I collected every single cassette and CD and book I could lay my grubby little hands on. I acrued knowledge, I read and read on my favorite band, because I wanted to know everything possible. They were fascinating to me. I would read things until I came across something I didn't understand, and I would cross-reference it until I did. My favorite albums are Queen II, A Day At The Races, and Innuendo. Flash Gordon and Hot Space are decent albums, but I can see why they were panned. A Night At The Opera and Sheer Heart Attack are overrated, and I rarely play them. The Miracle is shit, The Works is mediocre, and A Kind Of Magic is Euro-pop at its worst. Staying Power, Body Language, Party, Bicycle Race, Delilah, and Mustapha are songs I hate. If they had never been released, it would probably make me happier. Bohemian Rhapsody is overrated. Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions are overrated. I am a fan because of the music Queen gave me. I am not entitled to like every ounce of music they put out, nor are you entitled to tell me what I can and cannot like. We are all Queen fans, but, for lack of anything better to talk about, we share opinions on what we like and what we don't like. You can find all the Queen fans here, or at Queen Online, or at any other messageboard. Just because we don't like a song, or don't like an album, doesn't make us any less of a fan. To like everything is just wrong - Queen are not perfect, nor should they be treated as such. They're human, just like their fans, and are prone to errors along the way. Just because one fan's opinion doesn't match up with another's doesn't mean Queen is not liked. Try using a bit of common sense before you post idiotic rants with hardly any evidence to back your moronic claims up. |

It's the people on here telling everyone else their opinions are idiotic and they shouldn't be on this site that need to get a life and take it down a notch. The forums IMO should be about favorite things about Queen, where you saw them live, and other fun topics. Not criticizing Brian May because he is doing what he wants to do at this stage in his life. Come on, don't take Queen personally. Know where to draw the line. |
| mike hunt 29.11.2004 14:23 |
ok, this is for linda try reading the kind of magic thread recently or why made in heaven was underapreciated in the states, those are just small examples of what i'm talking about. |
| mike hunt 29.11.2004 14:31 |
and for queen 23 i agree, it's not about not liking a song there's a few i don't like, mainly taylor songs like "more of that jazz", or not like an album or two, but when it's the same people constantly bitching about every album it gets old, and to call half there albums crap or garbage is nonsense. these guys never released crap in their lives (especially in freds lifetime) after fred died i don't really consider it queen so working with spears or robbie doesn't qualify. |

Well Mike Hunt your search for Queen Fans far and near may take a good while. I wish you luck! So Many of the bands fans are very closeted for various reasons of course, here in the USA it is mainly because of FM's gayness and flamboyance that seems to piss off these abuntantly testosterone-inflated male teens these days. Once anyone mentions Queen the band, however if you go to any football (soccer), baseball and sports events I almost guarantee you will hear WWRY and WATC back to back or separate. And as years go by Queen (the band) has found new audiences world-wide (Iranian youths! Go figure?) So the search for Queen fans may cause you to span the globe dear Mike...it is worth the trip. As for myself well I am much more than a fan I am a writer who has seen Queen start from humble black nail varnish glam rock beginnings to legendary stadium rockers, it is highly unlikely anyone can or will take their place especially in their fans hearts. There ARE serious Queen fans out there Mike, and you have touched on a nerve with a lot of us, I'll bet. This seems to me to be a good way to contact other Queen fans if you ignore a lot of the garbage. If they weren't Queen fans, they wouldn't be looking at this site in the first place would they? Anyway, all you Queen fans, how many are members of, and supporting the International Queen Fan club? This is maybe worth a new topic? |
| redyfredy01 29.11.2004 18:56 |
I am most definately an extremely real Queen fan!! No album from Queen is crap... not even a song from Queen is crap. Queen is the best band in the world in my opinion. There is no band better. But, the real way to find out if you are a real Queen fan is to see if you have a membership to The Official International Queen Fan Club or not. Now honestly, i do not yet have a membership myself, but that is because i am not old enought to make it happen on my own. I am in the process of getting a membership because i just sent a letter to Jacky and Val stating why my mother doesn't think it is a good idea to join this fan club. If they write back, and my mother approves, than i will have a membership. Most of you are most likely atleast in your 20's so you could pay for it and fill out the form alone. |
| redyfredy01 29.11.2004 19:01 |
TO PROVE YOU ARE A REAL QUEEN FAN, TELL ME IF YOU HAVE A MEMBERSHIP TO THE QUEEN FAN CLUB OR NOT. |
| LiveAidQueen 29.11.2004 19:02 |
That doesn't prove anything, except that you have money and have to prove yourself to others. |
| LiveAidQueen 29.11.2004 19:03 |
Which is ridiculous. I mean, it's okay to meet others, but it doesn't prove that you are a real Queen fan, get the point? |
| redyfredy01 29.11.2004 19:22 |
Yes, i guess your right, but i was just thinking that if you lived in middle class like me, you wouldn't want to spend the money, and also you are right, because i am not the type to prove myself, thanks for pionting that out. |

To be a true fan, you have to be a realist. Even your fave band had weak spots. What makes you a fan is being able to critisise and understand them. Or else you are a stepford. I think queen were a very strong bands who only went wrong once or twice. I personally love all their eighties stuff but dont like alot of the seventies stuff because it isnt me. But im not bashing them, its just opinion. Ps Im a true fan- all hail Prince Mercury!!! |
| Gunpowder Gelatine 29.11.2004 20:18 |
I'm a fake Queen fan and proud. I'm just here for the free food. :) But in all seriousness, even the most dedicated fan has to be able to look at the band and realize they weren't perfect. Nobody is, nobody can be. Some songs and albums are stronger than others, but it's all a matter of opinion. Just because I like Hot Space and another fan finds it impossibly cheesy doesn't make either of us better fans. We just have different opinions, and not liking something doesn't make us bad fans. |
| mike hunt 29.11.2004 20:26 |
mr. wouter please be real, how many times must i say, you don't have to like every song or album, doesn't even have to be your favorite group, but to come here and say your a queen fan, then put down most of their albums is dumb, if you like Queen2 and notw and the rest you call garbage and utter crap, is that a real queen fan to you? and as far as the beatles go, no one in their right mind is going to say anyone is better than the beatles, i'm not even a big beatles fan and i know that. actually i'm sick of hearing about the beatles, but no one will ever beat out the beatles, not queen, not zep, you have to stay in relality. |

I agree that many people are too bitchy about the later albums. All of Queen's albums have different and wonderful songs on them, and although I am partial to the earlier works, I still love and enjoy the later ones as well. I understand that many people don't want to be "stepfords" and worship every work of Queen and accept it as flawless, but fans should not be so critical of everything either. I admit that I favor some songs more than others, but I have yet to hear a Queen song I actually didn't like. |

Krizzy said....this! "Well Mike Hunt your search for Queen Fans far and near may take a good while. I wish you luck! So Many of the bands fans are very closeted for various reasons of course, here in the USA it is mainly because of FM's gayness and flamboyance that seems to piss off these abuntantly testosterone-inflated male teens these days." **Nicely said. And perfectly true.** On another note, being a real queen fan, as liveaid queen said, isn't meausured on what clubs you join and such. I don't have the kind of money to join a fan club, but I am a huge fan. so there, lol. cheers. |

mike hunt wrote: mr. wouter please be real, how many times must i say, you don't have to like every song or album, doesn't even have to be your favorite group, but to come here and say your a queen fan, then put down most of their albums is dumb, if you like Queen2 and notw and the rest you call garbage and utter crap, is that a real queen fan to you? and as far as the beatles go, no one in their right mind is going to say anyone is better than the beatles, i'm not even a big beatles fan and i know that. actually i'm sick of hearing about the beatles, but no one will ever beat out the beatles, not queen, not zep, you have to stay in relality. To me, a real Queen-fan is someone who thinks he is a Queen-fan. No matter what his/her reasons are for doing so. It's not up to me to define what "being a Queen-fan" is. And stating as an undebatable fact that the Beatles are the best: why? They made some good songs, they made a lot of rubbish, and they were important for musical history. But to me, there is no reason to call them the best band in the world. On the other hand, no other band can be called the best, because it's a matter of taste. |

goinback wrote: I found QueenZone after I'd been in some Pink Floyd groups. After that, QueenZone seems to be the happiest place on Earth.I agree! I discovered the Pink Floyd forum before discovered this one, so irate sarcasm between fans isn't really a novelty. I believe the problem is that fans who listen to larger than life bands like Pink Floyd and Queen consider themselves intellectuals, or somewhat enlightend to the whole point of an artists' music, and that those ideas never completely coencide with other fans' ideas about what it means to be a true fan. Most who have posted to this topic are right, we're only argueing about the technicalities!!! The point is: Queen fans should be allowed to say whats on their mind but . . . DONT GET UGLY That is the point. Not whether we should be allowed to not like something that they've done. |

mike hunt wrote: I never heard queen put out crap, like most of you seem to think.Mike with all due respect, I think you have either short term memory loss or are just a dip. I just now read the topic "70's or 80's" and guess what??? You're not so pious as you would have us believe. I belive you're words were "80's Queen is crap, Garbage" Excuse me??? Honey, you need to take a long look in the mirror before bitching at other fans. |
| mike hunt 30.11.2004 23:59 |
no my friend, that was a bit of sarcasm, i love 80's queen, and it seems i touched a nerve with fellow queen fans, you have to remember i was pointing out a few fans, basically it's the same ones who use the words shit, garbage, and utter crap to describe some of their later albums, you don't have to be a fan of every album, but please, utter crap and another popular word for these fans is pathetic don't describe anything they did. I'm tired of this subject anyway. If you think your a Queen fan (even if you call most of their albums pathetic) then your a Queen fan, ok. |

"I think, therefore I am." You should be a philosopher Mike, you've got pedigree there, my friend. |
