My good pal and I were discussing these two songs from Queen II. I told her that White Queen was written by Brian and that March of the Black Queen was by Freddie. But what we couldn't come to terms with was were those two songs written in correlation to each other? It seems like they would have been, by reading the lyrics (or the titles for that matter). But then again....I could be wrong. To me, it seems like some kind of intertwining saga. But please, a little clarification would be of some help.
Cheers.
i agree, i think brian and freddie fed off each other alot. you hear that with white and black Queen, rock you and champions, also fat bottom girls/races. on sheer heart attack brian and fred fed off each other with freds "flick of the wrist" then brian came up with "now i'm here" they did that alot.
Yeah.
It seems that Brian and Freddie did that mainly. Did anyone else do that as well?

White Queen probably predates MOTBQ by a few years (it supposedly was written in 1969), so they aren't really twins as such. However, Freddie most likely wrote MOTBQ with White Queen in mind, so they eventually could have two songs that would work as counterpieces within the white/black-concept of the album.
i agree with the last comment - as white queen supposedly came from soemone Brian new of, around the smile era
the white/black theme needed a natural blend for the album - esp with the
ffms/nevermore/moptbq (bo rhap) genesis happening on side black
wasn't there also some bizarre rumour of some outtakes from queen II involving something called surrender to the city? or was this a hoax? - (a line from MOTBQ)

Merely a hoax - John Stuart put an end to that, though some were more intent on believing a character named Freddie's Left Testicle than our beloved Mr Stuart.
The other title was Deep Ridge, so it offers some kind of glimpse into the creativity of some so-called fans.
There's a slight chance that Fred didn't know White Queen at the time he composed Black Queen. Perhaps he did, but it can also be that Brian saved it for later (as he often did) and when he presented it to Fred he had happened to have written Black Queen. OR... since the idea of black/white sides came after Fred wrote Black Queen (according to what they said in a Japanese magazine in 1974), maybe that's when Brian found it perfect to recover his old White Queen and present it to Fred & John (Roger most likely already knew it).
No, I think it those two songs probably fueled the whole white/black side it the first place, and I'm guessing it was all a big scheme from freddie "with White Queen" in mind. Freddie, incidentally, wore black nail polish for a while afterwards and Brian wore white nail polish.
