Im not talking about the New version that has been realesed this week this is about the Original version in the 80s
Wht were Queen never asked to be recorded on the Band Aid single ? ? They were one of the best artists of that time,! Did Bob Geldof like them ? I mean George micheal and Boy george were on it ? why not Queen ?!?!?!?
ive always wondered, Not even brian is on it playing the Guitar !
thank you x
Here's a quote: "Queen had not been invited. The controversy over their South Africa shows possibly played a part in their not having been asked but, whatever the reason, it pricked the band and Freddie Mercury later lamented, 'I would have loved to have been on the Band Aid record'."
(From Laura Jackson's book Queen -- The Definitive Biography)
well, talking about reliable sources... Freddie himself said in an interview they didn't participate, because they were in separate parts of the globe. Maybe you can still download it from Rien's site. It's the Live Aid rehearsal video.
But on the other hand... maybe he wouldn't tell the interviewer that they weren't invited, who knows? Fact is that they didn't participate on the single.
Cheers,
Tim
They were not invited and the South African tour breaking the UN boycott may well have been the reason but that's just speculation. John Deacon said in an interview that they were not asked and he said that maybe Geldof wanted just the "newer acts".
What are you guys on about? Queen weren't asked to record the single. That's what they were so annoyed about. Bob wanted newer acts to get the kiddies buying the song. And remember, Geldof is no Queen fan.

Maybe Queen was a great threat to Geldof in the eighties, because of Queen’s huge popularity. But Geldof has admitted that Queen was the best act during Live AID. Did he have said that if he didn't like their music?
I think the fact is that Bob Geldof wanted newer acts indeed.
Seems weird that Paul McCartney, David Bowie, and Elton John didn't sing on the single either.
