Besides of being my favourite Freddie Mercury song (apart from Barcelona's), I think it is the most Queen-able solo song from him. The guitar sounds awesome, and it reminds me to Brian's sound. Maybe the guitarist (wonder who is) got inspired by him.
What do you think?
It's a favorite of mine as well! Freddie sounds really awesome on it, And I also like the way it was over dubbed. Very nice! By the way, The guitarist for the album was Paul Vincent, I believe. I'm not sure if he was inspired by Brian's playing or if Freddie just said "I want you do do it THIS way". ;)
Indeed, there IS a Queen-version of that song. A short snipet of it can be heard in the DVD "The Untold Story"
I´d love to listen to the complete version.
So, please, please Greg! Give us the box-set!
I'd be interested to know why they didn't put it on the Freddie box set, since there's no alternative material for MMP on the MBG rarities disc. I assumed it was being kept for the Queen box (just to have all the versions in one place, rather than over two box sets), and I guess that might still be the case.
Darren Robins wrote: No, the snippet in the Untold Story is just another version/take of Freddie's solo version. Check the end credits to confirm this.
Really? I didn´t know that. Thanx for the info, Darren.
So I can´t see a reason why they left it out on the Freddie Box-set.
Greg walks mysterious ways...
Hang on a minute... I remember someone said that it definitely was the Queen version.
Now, who's to say that the torpedo twins didn't get it right on the credits? Let's face it, there are plenty of people always going on about their videos being horribly wrong with information all the time. So, why not now? Why so quick to accept it?
It's featured on the docu at 1:03:06. And another one at 1:04:04. They're two separate demos. The first could easily be Freddie's demo. But the second is different. Not quite the BadGuy album version. But close.
Peace,
Adam.
I've heard the Queen version at the convention I think. I'm sure I did perhaps P_G can confirm because I'm normally pissed/hungover* so all the songs Greg plays blur into each other.
*delete as appropriate.
Greg mentioned a few years back of a 1 min Queen version, and I think many people assumed that the short snippet in the docu was the Queen version... well no, since like I said, the credits say Freddie Mercury and the docu does feature a few alternate cuts of songs that wern't in the box also. There are no Queen demos in the docu so why would you presume this one?
The only reason to bring it up is because of the torpedo twins reputation with Queen fans. All the mistakes made in the past that are picked up. That's why it's not totally inconceivable to think a little more on it.
I'm surprised it's me trying to get this across as I don't mind a lot of their videos. Though, I'll admit they do have a few bad montage cuts. But not much of their fault because of what's available.
Peace,
Adam.
one of my favorites, the piano part at the end is great and i love the way it goes into there must be more to life than this. good song, would have made a great queen song.
I like the "opera-tune" in the end of the song. Is this Freddie´s version of the classical song "Ave Maria"? Absolutely great.
I guess these "bits" were some kind of excercise to Freddie - which later came to perfection on "Barcelona".
I love it, too. It´s a shame that it is - besides for us fans - such an underrated album. To me it´s the first real link between pop/rock and classic - and I mean real classic not these kind of "pseudo-operas" like Metallica´s symphony projekt, e.g.
