But isn't it even more than 32 million, given that some of the award dates are rather old and they must have sold additional copies since ? |

Queen II and The Miracle are the only studio albums without a certification. The WWRY version of GH and The Platinum Collection will be certified at some point. I have been fighting with some baffoon called Your Worst Nightmare at Amazon.com about Queen and he says Duran Duran were the be all and end all to rock. He took shots at Freddie and said that if AC/DC could carry on without Bon then Queen can without Freddie. Freddie was like the John Bonham of singing, irreplaceable. Also, this guy I have been fighting with says Queen only got big because of Wayne's World and he started with me after I wrote positive reviews for each album and such. The guy has a vendetta against me and real rock! |

the good thing is, all of their albums went gold. Even Hot Space. So whoever says Queen never had a popular album knows nothing. All gold, some platinum, some multi-platinum. Now THAT'S staying power lol |

Are there any stats on Queen's updated world sales (excluding US). I can't seem to find anything on the internet except for the US figures. |

Selling 32 million in the US is more than even KISS! |

Actually, it's kind of funny. On the Pink Floyd forum, when somebody mentioned Queen, everybody began to talk about "Flash Gordon" Wow... |

I don't feel I need to own it, and as a 17 year old girl with a job that pays $6.25 an hour, I don't exactly have $14.99 to shell out every time I want a CD. Check the facts before you go ranting about some bullshit.rhapsody__87 wrote:WHo is going to buy a mostly instrumental soundtrack? well, QUEEN FANS.. Die hard ones.. A few years back, "Bites The Dust" was the Warner group's biggest ever selling single in any genre in the States. Not sure if it's still the case, though. |

Biggest British acts in America back in 1980 were Pink Floyd and Queen. The GAME and NOTW are each tied with four million sold each. FG was mainly instrumentals. Another soundtrack which was Pink Floyd's Obscured by Clouds album, a soundtrack to the French movie La Vallee' took the same amount of years to go Gold and that album had half instrumentals and half vocal tracks. Hot Space had actual songs with vocals and hardcore fans eagerly awaited to get HS. |

Excellent thread - NOTWMEDDLE, could you add sales figures in numbers for every album ? Would be great ! What's your source ? For me as a german I also think they must have been quite big in the US from '75-'80, as we all know the names of the arenas they've played from several concertographies over the years. Selling out Madison Square Garden and the L.A. Forum up to three consecutive nights seems quite impressive. I dunno why, but there's a fascination about a band "making it" in the US, and Queen's waning fame has been an often discussed issue amongst Fans for years now. For me as well, since we had an exchange student from the US in our class way back in the early '90s, when I was still in school. I asked her about her favourite music. She said smth like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and I mentioned Queen... she had never heard of that band. I mentioned some of the biggest hits, CLTCL, AOBTD, BoRhap... she did not know until "Champions"... since then I started trying to find out everything about their fading popularity in the states. It's kinda fascinating to analyse - in a masochistic kind of way... ;-) |
