I thought I knew how Johnny Rotten might look but turns out, I don't. I bought a pair of pale blue jeans, a purple tank top with a cross on it, a white shirt and a cream suit top. After looking at some pictures I have no idea what a punk, let alone Johnny Rotten, would wear.
I'm looking for any suggestions on what people wore as punks in the 70's or what they saw people wear in the 70's. Any help would be reaaaally, really, appreciated and would have a place in my heart forever.

First off, you need to dye your hair bright pink and then make it look spikey.
*makes her place in iGSM's heart*
If your ears are pierced....put a safety pin through the piercing, thats what all my punk friends used to do.
Make sure your clothes dont look clean...and you need a ratty biker type jacket to be cliched...
Crap. A leather jacket would be a fine investment. So do you suggest a roll around in the dirt before hand? And what about make up? Or were the punk of the day not like that? Although I read somewhere they did derive some things from glam rock (i.e. Freddie, Roxy Music, David Bowie, T-Rex etc)
Yeah glam rock did kinda inspire punk but at the same time its like the exact opposite.... Punk typically didnt use make up until like later when black eyeliner became big. I think it was more of the attitude...punk was glams bastard child, yeah? It was like so not glam but just the same in the sense of like shit on you we're not gonna listen, were gonna do our own thing. Ha Im babbling on...
Be sure you get some doc martin type boots though...XD I had red ones :-3
Funny you should ask about dressing up like Johnny because I was chosen to be an aadvertisement model for a fashion show (I look crap on runway, good on film) and I get to be fixed up like some rock star, one of the girls was sid vicious.I have no idea what im gonna turn out to be...I heard everything from Harry to Lenny Kravitz to Kiss to Gwen Stefani...eeeeee~~~~
Awesome. So I've got to add a lot of 'fuck you' and 'bite me ass wipe' to conversation?
Ah, bovva boots. Certainly. I've got a book out at the moment called '...and God created Punk'. Johnny looks entirely different to how I envisaged him. Dinner suit top, striped shirt, thin black tie and a lot of safety pins. Hmm, damn me.
So would you recommend mascara/eye liner?
hmm not necessarily mascara but eyeliner, sure why not.. Im not exactly sure if Johnny himself wore it frequently but yeah... i guess give it a go. Im gonna go dig up my punk stuff from years ago... see what else I can come up with :-3
neglected to mention...an excellent source on glam (and a teeny bit of punk) is Mick Rock's "BLOOD AND GLITTER". Im digging through it and the pictures of Johnny, well he's wearing a kind of on the baggy side (or is JOhnny too scrawny?) tee shirt with some kind of image of god knows what in the middle...on one ocassion hes wearing a very narrow tie with the tee shirt...
heh, I know that he wore a t-shirt that had the members of Pink Floyd on it and above them he had written 'Cunts'. I don't think I should but the temptation is there, heh.
