Just heard it, and it made me miss No Doubt more than ever. Yet still, the album is still better than most of the albums that have come up lately.
I can see why Gwen decided to release a solo album. Many of the songs cross over too much to other genres, and wouldn't quite fit the punk/ska standards of No Doubt.
There are quite some stinkers like 'Harajuku Girls', 'Long Way To Go' and the first single track...
I remember watching FUSE once, and one of the VJs said this after playing the video for 'What You Waiting For'...
"The only thing I was waiting for, was for that song to be over"
There are some great crossovers though, especially the tracks with a 70s, and 80s vibe.
'Cool' is the best song on the album.
If I could recommend something for 'No Doubt' fans is to first get the 'Everything In Time-B Sides and Rarities' album. That album is so damn good, that it makes you wonder why they left so many great songs out of the studio albums.

You already know I bought it, sweetie, cos we heard it together, but even still. ;^)
Not surprisingly, I loved it. I like more songs than others ("Cool" and "The Real Thing" are my favorites at the moment), but I think I could eventually come to like all of them for one reason or another. The only one I'm really not digging at all is "Rich Girl"...as soon as I heard the clip of it off of TRL, I wasn't too impressed by it and I'm still not having heard the whole thing.
It certainly is different, but I enjoy Gwen trying out different stuff. I won't be surprised to see a couple of killjoys posting in this topic, but hey, to each his own.
as a veteran of the 'juku myself I will be looking forward to hearing this album...I did a double take when I hear a reference to Harajuku on What you waiting for...and just the general nipponofileness of the video...

Can't say I'm particularly excited by her music, but she certainly is a pretty little thing. Not exactly well titted out, but well worth knocking the back out of, all the same.
As long as you don't know the back out of her with a sledgehammer.
Certainly an odd girl. One that would go SCREEBLE THE FLOWING BAT at someone. Good voice though.
Judging from the awful first single 'What Are You Waiting For?', the album is actually better than I expected.
Very average still, but then again nearly all big rock band leaders and front men/women have never had a close success to what they had with the rock bands that shot them to stardom.

Yes What Are You Waiting For has got to be their worst single.
Trust me, the other members of No Doubt would have never allowed such a bad song to be included on one of their albums. At least not without different musical arrangement.
That's what solo albums are all about... making songs that your fellow bandmates wouldn't allow you to put in an album. I know that Brian, and especially Roger would have never allowed certain songs on 'Mr.Bad Guy' to be included on a Queen album with the same arrangements that Freddie made for them back in 1985.
Besides, (this might seem kinda harsh) but 'Delilah' only made it into 'Innuendo' because of Freddie's condition at the time.

- Oh, please. Let's just act like we know all the guy's thoughts on her album when we don't. I doubt Tony would think Gwen's songs are all throw-aways when he worked on two of them with her.
As to whether her single was crappy or not is certainly down to opinion. You might want to remember that not all people agree with you that it wasn't a good song. Obviously you can see that I am one of them.
I think she is making some weird fasion statements and those Japanese Girls creep me out but I like the CD. Gwen is a fantastic singer and very creative. I did say something to Miss James that I do not understand why she made a single CD since she sings all of the songs for No Doubt, so it is just switching who is playing for her, but still good
No Doubt is basically a pop/rock/ska/punk/reggae band. They have their own style, and re-invent their countless number of 80s influences which include Prince, Madness, Bob Marley, The Police, and many more. Gwen's album has a style different than No Doubt's, just not as good of course.
Sincerely while I admire Gwen for her great voice and talent, she's not exactly the brains behind No Doubt's success, but she does indeed share it along with Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Eric Stefani (who left after 'Tragic Kingdom'). The media does indeed give too much attention to Gwen as if she's the one and only who pulls the strings of the band. Things are quite a lot different that what they seem, that's why Tony and Tom are so underated.
It's a shame that Eric Stefani left the band, because there's no doubt (no pun intended) that his influence in songwriting truly helped 'No Doubt' to launch itself into worldwide stardom with 'Tragic Kingdom'. 'No Doubt' was still great after he left, but I seriously think that if he never left the band 'No Doubt' would have been bigger than it is today.
Yeah..well.. I bought 'Pressure Chief' by Cake. That makes me the King!
The King of Earthworms!
I haven't actually seen L.A.M.B on sale yet. Keeping in mind I'm not looking but I wouldn't not give it a second look.
