I can see no-one has talked about it here...(don't give me links if im wrong), but I think it has many ideas that can start a really good conversation without stupid stuff in it... Pls be serious, or I'll forget my name!!! |

Very nice book, read it in 2 or 3 days. |

It is really interesting, though I was glad I was warned about the content before I read it that first time! Personally, I like 'Angels and Demons' better, and 'Digital Fortress' even more. I'm still waiting to get more by him... too bad that wait-list at the library is so terribly long! What did you find most intriguing about the book? Was there anything that just really upset or angered you the first time you read it through? What do you think of Brown's writing style in general? Ja ne! |

Love the book, but will hate the movie if Tom Hanks is gonna be in it. That guy has only two expressions: 1. happy one (like most of Forrest Gump) 2. sad one (looks like just shit himself) |
veronica58 22.11.2004 10:34 |
the subject was interesting, but the writing of all of Dan Brown's book is so predictable. You always have that super-intelligent beautiful girl and the handsome genius male....I don't know if you guys ever heard of Dave Barry, but he did a spoof about it over the summer. Great stuff. |

Book was ok. Bit drawn out, but ok. I'd do well as the lead in the movie. |

i think i'd do ok as sophie... :P only if the lead male character is jude law!!! or ewan mcgreggor. or chris o'donnell. or tom cruise!!! he he :P |

i don't view the da vinci code necessarily as a novel, but as a way to raise certain questions. i don't think the guy would have received attention if he wrote a non-fiction book. my opinion... anyway, i agree that the structure is a bit non-brilliant, to put it in nice words, with the american that saves the world (:P) etc. that's why i prefer autors like bulgakov or haruki murakami. anyway...his point wasnt really to write a great nove, in my opinion, but to raise a couple of questions about our civilisation. the end |

I don't really like to read but I thought it was good. |
Goo 23.11.2004 20:30 |
Yeah, the plot and literary quality of the book itself isn't too amazing, but I loved learning about all those codes and paintings, and histories in such an interesting way! You can tell the author's really smart, and he's sure done his research. I think that's what I liked best about the book, it really challenges the mind, and it's so fascinating. |

i think its a great book! i love art and put into the context of the book, it just seems so much more interestibg! when i first started reading it, the only thing that turned me off was the religion in it, but that turned out cool any way!! |

Okay...I've just finished reading it, having finally got round to borrowing it off a friend. I really enjoyed it up till about two-thirds of the way through. Up till there, I was liking the storyline, found it easy to follow (although not the best style at least it's easy) and was mightily interested in the whole thing even though I had a pretty good idea about the secret of Sophie's family (I was right about the important part). But the ending was silly and overall very disappointing. Most disappointed with who the Teacher turned out to be. It began to drag round about that two-thirds point and by the end I was sick of it. On the basis of the story I don't think it deserved all that praise it was given on the cover but raised some interesting historical and theological discussions that make a lot of sense. |

<font color=purple>Miss James wrote: I think the book was crap.bit harsh? why did you think it was crap? i think that most people on the planet who considered whether reading this book probably knew what the subject matter was before they read it...so it can't be the subject of the book you find crap - otherwise you'd have just left it on the shelf? so that leaves the content...which i found fascinating and well-researched...the Mary link to Christ, the Holy Grail and the Knights templar are interesting subject swhich dan brown has done his homework on, and adding a large slice of conjecture and a good fictional plotline has made a book that i though raced along very well this leads me to think that maybe you found it crap because you didn't work out the ending(s) i (without giving the game away) loved the full-circleness of both Sophie's family and the HG quest...and i felt i enjoyed it more when i realised i had worked it out without leading myself up blind alleys a very good read |

Angels and Demons is Dan Brown's best, but this one's a close second. Quick read, thought-provoking, and thoroughly enjoyable. Can't ask for much else, and looking forward to the movie. |

I've seen the Da Vinchi Code before. In my opinion... ah' geez, I could go on for hours about this, ... well, anyway, I'll begin with the Bible code. It is said that there are secret messages in the Bible, predicting the Sept. 11 attacks, John F. Kennedys' assasination, ect. Even Nostradamous predicted many of these. Similar predictions have been found in, for example, Moby Dick and other books of similar length. Many to credit the Bible code though, because the words are located so close together. 'The Last Supper', by Leonardo Da Vinchi, is said to point out that the person to Jesus' right is holding a knife. People say it is Mary Magdaline, Jesus' 'lover'... Some people say alians left the secret messages in the Bible for us to find, and to guide our lives by. Others say it is just a coinsidense. Nostradamous wrote predictions up to the year, well I forget the exact year, but between 3500-4000. It might have been because he died before he could right anymore, or thats when the earth would be destroyed. Anyyyyyway, enough from me. :D |

Loved that book. I also read it in about two days. Kept me going in it. So there IS going to be a movie? That's a relief (in a sense if Hollywood doesn't adapt it too much). When National Treasure came out I was pissed as hell cause I saw it as ''The Da Vinci Code Minus the Religion''. Perhaps with this actual adaptation, they might do that. Let's hope not. And Tom Hanks? He's too old, isn't he? When I read it, I pictured a young Peter O'Toole as Robert Langdon. Maybe Hanks will pull it off. for those of you who do not know a young Peter O'Toole ... link |

I loved the book couldn't put it down and cant wait to go to Paris for my Birthday in November and follow the trail well some for it.The louvre etc... Yeah the movie is in production at the moment should be out 2006 and they have some great cast members. I think Tom Hanks is a perfect Robert Langdon right age has that weathered, well travelled, educated look about him. Sopie is played by Audrey Tautou who was in Emilie i think, Sir "gandalf"Ian Mckellen is playing The deceptive Sir Leigh Teabing and Alfred Molina(Dr.Octopus-spiderman 2)is the Bishop with Paul Betteny (a knights Tale MR Jennifer connelly) is Silas the albino. But who i'm most happy about is Jean Reno(leon) as Detective Beau Frache. I liked Angels and Deamons and ditigal fortress was ok but deception point is pointless crap (imo) xx aisha xx |

I loved The Da Vinci Code (I even watched a two hour special about it on the History Channel last night!) as well as Angels & Demons. I've got Digital Fortress and Deception Point around here somewhere but I've never started them...I still can't imagine Tom Hanks as the lead in the movie. Definitely not great casting - he doesn't fit the description of Langdon at all! And some of the plot was predictable, especially the way the characters were described, but I still couldn't put it down for two days straight! |
dragonzflame 25.06.2005 00:29 |
That sounds like superb casting...not so sure about Tom Hanks though. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the albino Silas - actually get an albino to do it or just put makeup on someone? One thing I found tricky with Silas is his apparently decent eyesight. Being able to aim well enough to shoot someone isn't too likely with an albino because they often have really poor eyesight. I know an albino and she has to use a kind of magnifying glass to read. |

Tom Hanks in the lead I am not thrilled about, nor Ron Howard who is the Director. I think Ron Howard is too lightweight a Director for such a heavy yet thought provoking film. What I am thrilled about, is the casting of the brilliant French actor Jean Reno, from ''Leon The Professional'' as the inspector in the film. He's so talented, maybe he can hold the film together. |
