i really think brian may was brilliant at writing songs, as they all were, but just hear the prophet's song, (A Night at the Opera)
UNBELIEVEABLE STUPENDOUS!!
geeks&geeks
God Empress wrote: Brian for lyrics, John for music, Roger for live value, and Freddie for overall originality.
Brian for rock, Freddie for lyrics/harmonies/complex arrangements/most ballads, Roger for political lyrics (especially solo) and live-feel (with Freddie), John for cute songs.
John for cute songs is definitely right. Ditto Roger. Happiness? is a great album.
Brian and Freddie for lyrics is a tough one. Brian was the most consistently good lyricist, but when Freddie came up with a beauty...it was a zinger.
Brian or Freddie. Brian was definitely the most consistent writer, but when Freddie was good, he was great. Roger's more of a hit or miss, because you've got great songs like Drowse and Tenement Funster, but on the other hand, there's More Of That Jazz and Fun It, which aren't so spectacular. And John is dependable when you want a lighthearted song, like Misfire or You're My Best Friend.
Roger, because he has power behind his words; raw, undeniable power. Fight From The Inside, Drowse, I'm In Love With My Car, Hijack My Heart, Fun It, Action This Day, the list goes on and on.
Err, definitely agree with what's already been said. Freddie and Brian were the best, but some of Freddie's songs weren't very memorable. John did some really fantastic ones too though.
Brian May for: Who Wants To Live Forever, No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young), Too Much Love Will Kill You, We Will Rock You, Save Me, Sail Away Sweet Sister, Driven By You, Just One Life, Let Your Heart Rule Your Head, Last Horizon, Another World and Nothin' But Blue
Freddie Mercury for: We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody and Friends Will Be Friends
Brian writes the more emotional songs, Freddie writes about some personal ones, John for love and Roger for, just, random things and just being Roger.
freddie knew how to write a "real" song....arangements, lyrics, and damned fine tunes to boot
just listen to "inside the rhapsody" for an insight into what was going on in his head

Damn right there. Roger was grunge before there was even the idea of grunge.
