Anyone purchased the new 60GB iPod??
I've got a 40GB right now but have ran out of room on it, so I was wondering if an upgrade to the 60GB was worth another $200.
I really can't see the point of buying these monster libraries - music should be listened to and enjoyed.
Honestly, how often do listen to each song / album? I think a few gbs is enough for most people.

Well, a lot of people buy these monster libraries to have a backup copy to their CDs....plus it's nice to have any song you wanna hear at the palm of your hand, instead of being on different CDs. Since I have a job where I can listen to music while I work, it's nice not to have to pick out which CDs you wanna take to work every morning.
And I do listen to every song I have...some I'd never heard before and found out I really liked...and some I haven't really cared for...but it's a good way to discover new music.
I know a lot of people don't see the point in having a massive song collection, but, for me, I just get tired of listening to same 'ol songs all the time. Give me "Don't Let Go The Coat" by The Who any day over something like "My Generation", or "Shandi" by Kiss over "Rock & Roll All Night"
I've been trying to fill my player for most of this year, and haven't even got to 50% of 40Gb yet...and I have fairly wide tastes.
Tell me what you're filling this 60Gb with...I need inspiration.
And I too like to have every decent song I've ever heard in one place.
they are a little pricey, my collection is 35 GB now so it would last me along time...dunno though REALLY expensive, even by ipod standards, I'd prolly just get a 40 GB.
inspiration? these are my folders, just for ideas:
Anime OST's / Game OSTs / J-pop : 2.61 GB
Christmas / Holiday: 206 MB
Classical: 574 MB
Comedy: 966 MB
Punk / Emo /Indie: 18.4 GB
Queen: 4.3 GB
Rock & Misc: 7.06 GB
A majority of my stuff is all in 192k, but now I'm trying to get more VBR stuff. I've got everything from hardcore to pop, stuff in different languages, stuff most people wouldn't guess I listen to, demos, remixes, & live stuff...Once I hear one album from an artist I want to hear more and more...I also like to keep my music in rotation before it gets old, that way I can always come back to listen to it and still enjoy it.
It is also nice to have "decent" copies of my CDs at hand all the time, if I had moved to college with all my CD's it would have been at least a couple boxes full, I have a MP3 CD player so I could bring everything in one CD case, and also leave my Queen collection intact.
I don't have a standalone mp3 player yet (I do have a 256 MB one but what good is that?) , although I imagine that would be even more convienent...

Wow, talk about pulling an obscure one out of the hat.
But I agree, it's a nice alternative to CDs when CDs prove impractical. Unfortunately, I only have a 20GB one, but I have all the essentials on there. Makes the work day (and lectures) much more enjoyable.
Holy crap. I've a 20gb and only filled 1.5gb of it with ALL my stuff. You've 4gb worth of Queen stuff. Shit-a-brick. That's a lot o' Queen.
And I'm disappointed to say I have bugger all The Who on there. Well except Live at Leeds which happens to rock but that's not nearly enough.
Quadrophenia, By Numbers, and Sell Out all would like to have a word with you. But they can't, because they're CDs and they can't talk.
Buy more Who! So good.
"This song is about....uh...cheese sandwiches."
Oh I have enough. It's just that I was stupid enough to lend them out saying 'The Who! Best band ever!' to some punks that still have the CDs. Oh well. Must destroy capitalism.

that includes all solo material (freddie, brian, roger, the cross) and b-sides and alternate versions/mixes. All the abbey road remasters I rip in 256k so to be fair the files are twice the size as 128k ones.
Speaking of Ipods named Sparky, my nickname for my ex-boyfriend was Sparky. Yeah, that was my completely random addition to this topic. :) Anyway, I can't imagine having enough music to fill a 60GB Ipod. My 15GB Ipod isn't even half full and I've got probably almost a hundred CDs!
Ahh, that make sense. I think I'll just need to steal a whole bunch of CD's off of friends, rip 'em and say 'Fuck you Apple! Tell me not to steal music!'
Come to think of it I have bugger all The Cross stuff or any of Brian's solo efforts. Except Too Much Love Will Kill You and Driven by You...but they don't count.
My iPods name is Hank Jones. One of Bart Simpson's friends.
I borrow CDs from my friends all the time, so I can put them on my iPod. A few weeks ago, I borrowed my friend's Franz Ferdinand CD and her [mom's] Jefferson Airplane CD.
