A long time ago, well 1997 to be precise, Queen (May & Taylor) unleashed "The Eye" a futuristic
computer game...set in a world where music is banned and a bunch of heroic rebels search to unlock the power of Queen's music, cue finding of Brian May's guitar.
2002 London, Queen (May & Taylor) unleash "We Will Rock You" a futuristic musical...set in a world where music is banned and a bunch of heroic rebels search to unlock the power of Queen's music, cue finding of Brian May's guitar.
Notice anything familiar??
Not that I'd be cynical but how can Ben Elton claim to have "written" the story? He must be having a right good laugh all the way to the bank!
Anybody else out there in "Queenzone" land notice the difference or do people just belive the Ben Elton /May & Taylor & Beach propaganda???
IT DID!? HOLY SHIT! WHERE HAVE I BEEN!?
*ahem*
Oh yeah... It DID... Oops.

Well, there are similiarities, but they aren't really overwhelming. To accuse Elton of copying The Eye is a bit daft, IMO.
Apart from that, The Eye wasn't released it in 1997. It was delayed until 1998.

Well I have never seen The Eye so I can't comment. I have however seen the musical, and it is truly great. I hated the idea of it at first with real passion, but decided to go anyway. I was glad I did.
It's not Queen, it's not pretending to be Queen, it's not a good storyline either, in fact it's a really naff storyline, but the real sense of pride that I feel at the end of the show Pim is very real. It's so great to be on your feet clapping and appreciating great music with similar minded people all around you feeling the same thing. I just love that feeling, it's not the same as being at a Queen concert, but it is a good feeling.
Why not join us at our next big QOL WWRY meet up (40 names to date): link
Sorry, but the WWRY storyline is a direct rip off of '2112' by Rush, and that Neil Peart said that he was inspired by another piece of work. I think that '2112' was released in 1976.
yes, '2112' was released in '76. Peart based the story on that of 'Anthem', by Ayn Rand. but, does WWRY have 'the Elder Race'? i think not. and certainly the ending is completely different.
but, come on -- we can't count the number of 'rock music saves the world' stories that bands have come up with on all of our hands combined. need i mention "Kilroy Was Here"? pretty much anyone that decides they want to do a concept album, the thought immediately following "let's do a concept album" is invariably, "guys, i think we can make this 'rock music saves the world' plot work. nobody else has managed to make it not come off as horribly cheesy, but they weren't us". so, it's not surprising that even Queen (or May/Taylor, however you choose to see it) fell prey that line of thought.
