A quick, unstudied top 12 (but in no particular order, other than #1)...confining this to ROCK/POP music - Freddie Mercury Ann Wilson (Heart) Sting Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) Matthew Bellamy (Muse) Bono (U2) Angnetha Faltskog & Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Abba) Robert Plant Iva Davies (Icehouse) David Bowie Mariah Carey Michael Hutchence (INXS) :-) |

Also no particular order except #1 Freddie Whitney Huston Mariah Carey Michael Jackson Stevie Wonder Frank Sinatra Ella Fitzgerald More I'm sure. Sometimes it's not about the range of the singers voice, but how the singer puts emotion into it and makes you feel it while singing. I think Freddie did both, and so did others on my list, but not all. |

"best voices in the music history ever" Anyone thought of mentioning opera singers (dead and living). C'mon! Even Freddie himself wouldn't have put himself on the top list of best singers ever. Freddie certainly had the best voice of rock/pop singers, but there are so many more genres out there with fantastic singers. |
Giacco 73 14.11.2004 16:24 |
Here's mine: 1.Freddie Mercury! 2.Rob Halford 3.Ian Gillan 4.Bruce Dickinson 5.Ronnie James Dio 6.Elvis 7.Lennon&McCartney 8.Robert Plant 9.Glenn Hughes 10.David Coverdale At times it's suitable of changes,it depends on the mood apart number one,my dears! |

I don't have a lot of expertise outside this genre, so I decided to keep my ass shut (so as to not start talking out of it). You, on the other hand, made only a broad assertion as to the existence of great vocalists in other genres (DUH! That was quite the revelation!) without giving us any examples... not even one! Any chance you'd like to JOIN the discussion rather than just arbitrarily SCOLD others? |

trustno1 16.11.2004 05:13 |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners: I think it's fairly safe to assume that *all* professional opera singers have better voices than every pop/rock singer listed here. I suppose you could argue over the meaning of 'best', though... |
Mr Fred 16.11.2004 05:17 |

I'm quite fond of Tony Williams (orig. The Platters lead tenor) however, NO-ONE and I mean NO-ONE is as versatile and breath-taking than the majestic singing talent that is Ivor Biggun. His contribution to music remains unparalleled with the low-talent wannebe's like Mercury barely even touching the same grounds as he did. Truly a legend of our time. |

just wanna thank simmer for the list, pretty acurate i must add, cos Mr. mercury was obviously the best out of the bunch, also my boy halford came in 8th. i feel that plant is bit overated and chriss cornel should have been second, but that's just me. |
