I know most people will disagree with me here but does anyone else think that Hammy '75 is crap ?.
It has a crap setlist, the sound is dire, Freddie cant even hit notes in key when he is talking to the crowd !, and to top it all off Fred should have really thought about conditioning his hare before going infront of the cameras.
Anyone agree ?
i've read in this forumthat theonly concertwhere freddie sang very well was houston 77..in other parts there are always cracks,"can't reach the right note evenwhen he's talkin" etc.....so why is he considered one of the best vocalist ever?
"...and to top it all off Fred should have really thought about conditioning his hare before going infront of the cameras. Anyone agree ?"
I certainly do. Their is no doubt that Freddie's hare was labouring badly, and in addition, Brian's tortoise was in dire need of grooming.
I dont think he is nessisarily the best vocalist ever but Talent wise he had a hell of alot more than anyone else in his day. Also , really who cares about how they sounded live really thats why its called live its never gonna sound perfect on stage anyhow its live. But I Do Notice a big difference in Freddies voice between the earls court show , and the We Will Rock you dvd show ... and i prefer the earls court Freddie .. voice was much more pure and full of gusto, Now back on the xmas 75 Topic , i happen to like it really ive heard one track from it , a medley where Bohemian Rhapsody was chopped up into parts , mixed in with Killer Queen and March of the black Queen one of my all time favorite songs and I loved it!
I'm agree. The setlist could have been better, including some numbers such as Flick of the wrist. The band was far from its best condition: it says that Freddie and Brian were ill, infact Freddie sings in a way less precise than usual and also Brian is less incisive.

What is generally less known is that on this performance both Brian and Freddie were suffering from really bad 'flu. So its no wonder that Freddie may have struggled with the high notes. And no I didnt think it was crap at all.

itsn't crap, but it neither is better concert of the era (it's not my favorite), the concert has their "high points" but dont satisfy me completely, I've liked to see the complete setlist, see SSOR, see FOTW but like Live at the Rainbow, just one hour! damm it!
YES! it's that good! and the setlist is excellent! the setlist was still very fresh at the time, and it's so refreshing to see that enthusiasm in the earlier concerts which to me is lacking in the gaga years and beyond
I agree with some of the comments made here.I've also read that Brian and Freddie were ill at the time. But it was also at the end of the tour and Freddies' voice always took a beating at the tail end of any tour. Watch the Japanese show from '79 and right from the start you can hear that his voice was in bad shape. Is the "Hammy" show really that good? Yes! It was soon after the release of Bo Rap and things couldn't be getting any better for the band then. Despite being ill, they still put on a great show.
IMO it's good... But not as good... Set list was UNFORTUNATELLY changed... and yes- Fred had much better gigs when it gets to vocals... Nevertheless I would be extremely happy if they released this gig on DVD...
"I Think The Show is Great, the band was brilliant, but the set is too short."
Erm....It was 1975 and they only had a few albums out then, plus it had to fit into the BBCs xmas eve time slot as it was filmed live for the OGWT.
My only complaint about this show is their vocal harmonies... they were way off at times.
But cut Fred and Brian some slack.. apparently they were both sick to their stomachs that night.
there are (i think) three versions of this concert
Original TV version (1 hr) broadcast originally on BBC TV
Edited BBC TV version (40 mins) broadcast Old Grey Whistle-test Classics - (1984)
Finally...the complete concert (audio only) 69 minutes. there is one bit where Brian quite clearly says "right, i think we're alone now" this is the cue that the TV cameras are now off
howver - it's aclassic queen concert because it shows them at their grandest - as said before FM and Bm were ill...considering that it shows what a great band they were at that time....still one of my faves
if you want a concert that truly shows them at their best (from same tour) manchester is great - the sound quality isn't so good, but the vocals and the set are great
also glasgow and earls court 777 are amongst the best
