I know that there must be quite a few people here who play an instrument, be it piano, guitar, or an orchestral instrument. So, I'm wondering, who plays what? And what name is the best when it comes to your instrument? Myself, I can play violin, but my instrument of choice is viola. Right now I've got a cheap but good student viola, but what I'd kill for is an Amati Viola. Unfortunately, only like three still exist...so I've got a feeling that the one I've been looking at (a 1620 Antonio Amati) is just a wee bit beyond my price range...But I'm very excited about the new Pirastro Obligato strings I just ordered - they're gorgeous (even if they do cost about a third of what I paid for my viola...)! Ja ne! |

I play piano, And have a Casio PX-300 digital grand. As far as the best goes, I have no idea. But I do know that my piano does everything I need it to. ;) |

I used to have a red and white Fender Precision, like the one John used on Radio Ga Ga at the Freddie Tribute. I sold it 2 years ago, great guitar. I also have 2 Marshall amps. |

I too play the violin. I used to use Obligato strings as well, when they first came out, but switched to Dominant after a while - they just didn't let my instrument project its natural beauty correctly. I also play the piano (Yamaha CLP-880 Digital Piano, along with several grands and baby grands that I do not own, but often play on when I go various places). Guitar too. I have a really nice Yamaha acoustic guitar that used to belong to my grandfather, a Washburn N1 electric, and the king of them all, a Burns Red Special copy. |
KillerQueen840 09.11.2004 14:29 |
I have a pretty cheap acoustic Johnson guitar that's practical for right now. I'm saving up for this, though. link It's the cheapest one I could find. ;-) |
JellaC 09.11.2004 15:13 |
I have a battered old roland ep7 II digi piano which has been my baby for 10 years and still sounds great for a "portable piano", a korg triton on loan, an epiphone viola bass, my lovely spector sea-blue bass (which I use most of the time), a yamaha electric acoustic guitar and a couple of crap basses from when I wasn't a real bassist! And a beautiful Puchner oboe. |
Megamike The GREAT 09.11.2004 17:13 |
I used to have a Carvin 6 string Bass, an Ibanez Roadstar2 Bass, and a Epiphone SG style bass.. Guitars.. shit too many to count... a Burns Red special was my last one, Maybe one day I will be able to get another Guitar.. and this time learn how to actually play it.. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 09.11.2004 17:29 |
I've got an Ovation Celebrity acoustic guitar and a piano that I inherited from my great-grandmother. And a recorder somewhere around here, from when we were forced to learn it in 3rd grade! |
SergeantPepperDG 09.11.2004 19:45 |
Ooh... I was forced to learn recorder too in third, fourth, and fifth grade. They make the most irritating sound. |
KillerQueen840 09.11.2004 19:51 |
SergeantPepperDG wrote: Ooh... I was forced to learn recorder too in third, fourth, and fifth grade. They make the most irritating sound.Lol, I took recorder lessons in second grade too. Only they were called "flutaphones." |
SergeantPepperDG 09.11.2004 20:01 |
Hahahahahaha... |
Gunpowder Gelatine 09.11.2004 20:19 |
I was never allowed to practice my recorder inside the house because it pissed off my dogs. I could've been a recorder prodigy, but now we'll never know! |
SergeantPepperDG 09.11.2004 20:22 |
When my dog hears a weird noise, he rotates his head like 90 degrees. It's really funny. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 09.11.2004 20:44 |
One of my dogs is completely scared of musical instruments. She'd howl whenever I played the piano (or the recorder!) and now she barks at guitar cases. And my guitar teacher. |
KillerQueen840 10.11.2004 15:27 |
Killaqueen!!! wrote: Recorder shouldn't be classified as an instrument!Well, according to link (hehehee..the internet is even replacing the dictionary) an instrument is, "A device for playing or producing music." You can play and produce music with them. |

What I really want is the new Gibson Jimmy Page Signature guitar. But I heard that the Seymour Duncan custom shop can hook you up with pickups with Jimmy Page's exact specifications, so that seems the easier (and cheaper) road to take. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Honeyburst and I am looking to switch the pickups. |

Wow...all of you who play guitars, I am in something close to awe. After two minutes of pizzicato, my hand would be dead, and when I pluck to make sure I've got a melody, I can never manage to keep it up to speed...bows are such handy little things! One of my friend plays French Horn, and for one of our plays, she ended up having to learn recorder really quickly...it was so funny - she got the soprano recorder, but learned the alto's music, so when we finally rehearsed that part, the melody was completely missing! It was so funny...I just hated having to switch from alto to treble to alto again every two bars because the arranger thought it funny to change clefs on me... Ja ne! |
KillerQueen840 10.11.2004 17:36 |
I used to play saxophone..I was pretty good at it too. But I didn't like my teacher and quit..now I realize how stupid I was not to just go find a DIFFERENT teacher instead of quiting. But I guess it's ok now that I have my guitar. |
Music Man 10.11.2004 17:42 |
Saxophone is a really popular and really great band instruments. Many of my friends play one sort of saxophone or another. |
Bob The Shrek 11.11.2004 08:26 |
I use 2 fingers to whistle - does that count? |
VGB 11.11.2004 18:12 |
i have a dark teal 5 string ESP bass, with a Behringer 60w amp and Behringer V-amp effects dealy...not too interesting my gear is boring but my brother has alot of guitars so I'll mention his gear: Epiphone G-400 (Gibson SG clone) Hamer something or other Marshall strat clone Squier Strat he got in a trade Squier acoustic Ibanez tone blaster 25w amp Yamaha 75w amp (forget the model number) one of those nifty protable mini amps |

SergeantPepperDG wrote: Ooh... I was forced to learn recorder too in third, fourth, and fifth grade. I have rather a nice wooden one that sounds like a real musical instrument (if a slightly high one) and tenor recorders can sound really nice too. |
MetzgerR 11.11.2004 20:36 |
I'm with you, Killaqueen - I still don't know how to whistle! And yes, wooden recorders do sound much better than those hideous plastic creations. Not that I have much success with either... Ja ne! |
Hank H. 12.11.2004 04:18 |
Yamaha P80 digital piano. I'm happy with the instrument, but I'm not happy at all with me as a player. Metzger (great name btw.), what does "ja ne" mean? |
iGSM 12.11.2004 06:04 |
A Yamaha ... uh..E-100 Trumpet (it's not really E-100..just sounds good) An Ashton bass guitar (it's BLUE!) A Suzuki guitar of some sort. |

I play a killer kazoo. |
Daburcor? 12.11.2004 11:38 |
LOL! We'll have to start calling you "Toots". :P |
MetzgerR 12.11.2004 12:13 |
Hank, thanks! I quite like the name, myself. 'Ja ne' basically is a really informal, friendly way to say goodbye. I'm so excited: I registered for classes two days ago, and I'm in a beginning piano class! Finally I'll learn a little ... my current knowledge and ability stopping at finding the A to tune with... Ja ne! |
iGSM 12.11.2004 12:20 |
So that's what ja ne means...what language is it? German..or Dutch? Summin' like dat, eh? |
Daburcor? 12.11.2004 12:40 |
Japanese. |
MetzgerR 12.11.2004 13:48 |
Yeah, ja ne is Japanese. The only ways I know how to say goodbye in German are Auf Wiedersehen, and Guten Nacht. I really should know more German than I do, as it's my dad's first language, but....I didn't listen very well when he tried to teach me some... Ja ne! |
dragonzflame 13.11.2004 20:46 |
No. It sounds like "what does your father do for a job?". ;-p "Tschüs" is an informal goodbye, like "seeya". And a lot of Germans still use "Ciao" (or they did last time I was there). |
MetzgerR 13.11.2004 20:53 |
Neat - thanks for the new words, dragonzflame! Ja ne! |
deleted user 13.11.2004 21:02 |
"LOL! We'll have to start calling you "Toots". :P" - toot, toot. ;^) |
dragonzflame 14.11.2004 16:14 |
Oh, I think I do get what you mean. I assume you feel that the words sound similar. Get a new German teacher, cause their pronounciation must be waaay off! |
Jjeroen 15.11.2004 05:37 |
Thanks Killaqueen! I'm not a rich bastard, though... (I wish! - If I were, I would nog longer WISH for that Parker Fly ;-))) It's a (part-time) job for me doing session stuff, and some parts of the gear have been partly 'endorsed'. (The Line 6 and the second Ibanez...) |
