Seen both of these now. Went to the Grudge with fearless boyf, who for the first time was scared, to the point at which he raised his hands to his face!!! This is one frightening film. Basically Hollywood has made it a rip off of The Ring.
loved the grudge, simply a great movie
the ring I liked too, I need to see the JP versions, which I hear are more scary
Ring II comes out Jan I think
I need to see "Saw" as well
I saw Saw on Saturday. It was not as scary as it was twisted. I don't want to say much about it but the ending made me feel like I'd missed something during the movie. It didn't fit with what the whole movie was about. I never left my seat so I know I didn't miss anything.
It was good though. I'd watch it again. I can't wait to see The Grudge.
scary the Grudge?
everyone one at the movie theater when i went were laughing their asses off

Mex, they were probably just watching J-Lo in shall we Dance...
And I thought the Grudge was very frightening at least the first time. And it is not a Hollywood ripoff of the ring because they were both Japanese movies, if it is a ripoff, it is a Japanese ripoff... Very Scary!

I've seen Ju on The Grudge 1 and 2 and they are very, very scary. But as complete films they don't quite work. The original ringu is a masterpiece in building up the tension and for me contains the scariest moment ever.
I think the american remake of the Grudge also involved the original Japanese director.

The Grudge is a remake of the Japanese Ju on the Grudge.
I've seen the Japanese versions of both and the US version of The Ring. The japanese one was much more frightening. And I've heard the same about The Grudge.
For some reason the american remake of Ring was intent on explaining everything and making sub plots / themes obvious. In the original Ring a lot was left to the imagination. Best word to describe the original is eerie.
The remake was good - better than I expected but not as satisfying as the original.
I'm looking forward to seeing the American remake of The Grudge.

I think "The Grudge" was more suspenseful than scary. When you realize the enemy is basically a cat-boy-ish...thing...it's not as scary. I think it was too similar to "The Ring", actually.
