Finally, I want a decent digital camera and I've been searching for something useful. This is my favourite choice as yet (and it's on sale in my city) link
Can anyone give me some solid advice - or even has some experience with this model? Thanks in advance.

they have excellent reviews on all digital camera's.
10 times optical zoom is excellent of course, however, it's hard to make sharp pictures when not using a tripod (I guess)
Thank you for this website, the camera seems to get good grades. Why do you think I would need a tripod? That would make the camera totally useless for me.

Tripods help steady the shot for sharp pictures, I think is what he meant. It's necessary for certain types of pictures, but not all.
It seems like a good model. You'll want to consider the Lithium-Ion battery and if you need a back up, which can cost more. Also, the camera dock is nice, but I don't think it's necessary.
From what I learned when I was looking at digital cameras, those made by actual camera manufacturerers, like kodak or Nikon, are better quality than those made by electronic companies, like Sony. Less problems all around.
I recently bought a Fuji 410 - a lovely camera that looks great and fits into your pocket easily.
There are other cameras that were in the same price range that techinically were better e.g. Canon powershot A70 / A75
but this came with a docking station, internal battery (I couldn't be arsed with rechargeable AA batteries - hassle and increased the weight)
and also used Fuji XD memory cards which need less battery power.

Try Sony's DSCp72. Good enough, but not too technical as to confuse the hell out of you.
Check this one out as well: link
Among the best on the web.
But, if I may say so... That camera looks and sounds great! I have a Canon G3, but this one makes my mouth water. :-)
buy fuji. they sell many of theirs with a cradle to recharge them or extra rechargable batteries. mine is the f401 and im really happy with it. good size, user friendly and faultless thus far (nearly a year) Good luck wit ya search barb!

Ehm, forgot to mention that I would recommend using a tripod when you zoom in 10X. Small shakes result in big errors. It's very hard to make sharp pictures with such a zoom (at least, that's what I expect). Maybe just go over to some shop and ask if you can try to make some pictures and watch the result on a PC screen.
Okay, thank you all very much:) I have a 300 mm tele lens for my really heavy reflex camera and I don't need a tripod to make sharp pictures, so I guess I can take the risk. Mostly, I won't need the full zoom, anyway. But I'll take the advice and take some test photos before buying.
