I know that all the various official (not fan) released remixes may cause some controversy - but there are one or two listed below, that even I do not have. Obviously, they are part of my wish list also. 1977 News Of The World Freddie Mercury: Vocals, Piano, Cowbell. John, I'm not sure if you know about this, but there was a extended version of "We Will Rock You" video from Live Aid broadcast on VH2 last Saturday (30th October). Not sure if its official or not but all it consisted of was the performance up to the guitar solo, but instead of ending there it went back to the start of the performance. The visuals then changed to instead of being Queen, it showed every other band that was on both the UK and USA bills that day. Pretty useless, I know, but I just thought I'd tell you. |
Shane Jazz 03.11.2004 19:41 |
Batteries Not Included? I have never heard of that one yet. Very interesting. Great name for a song too. |
John S Stuart 03.11.2004 19:45 |
Mr Mercury: Thanks. Bit of a curio. Think I will also lump that in with the "Live Aid bit" when it comes up - but you may need to remind me though! |
M. 03.11.2004 19:57 |
Are you sure that Trent Reznor did an unreleased remix of "Get Down, Make Love"? The only version I know is the cover version which he recorded with his band Nine Inch Nails (4:17, B-side of the single "Sin", 1990). It includes a few samples from Queen's GDML and WWRY. |
John S Stuart 03.11.2004 20:00 |
M: "...Trent Reznor did an unreleased remix of "Get Down, Make Love"? That is correct. The Nine Inch Nails cover version WILL appear under the appropriate year (1989). Cover Artists: Nine-Inch Nails – Sin UK CDs Halo Four CID 508 Get Down Make Love Remember he did other Queen mixes also, so this is not a unique occurarance. M: - so classic piece of German New Wave Cinema with Peter Lorre - or Pop Music? |
Lester Burnham 03.11.2004 20:02 |
Did I miss the A Day At The Races thread somehow? |

And no unfortunately I didnt record it - I thought it was just going to be the straight performance clip. Anyway keep up the good work!! |
John S Stuart 03.11.2004 20:08 |
Lester: Day At The Races. link Sorry but what happened to - Lester: Quickdraw McGraw, that's what they call me -lol!!! PS: "Back-issues" can be found under "Search" just punch in "Ultimate Collection". PPS: It was Lester's idea that I use that title so these items could be found easier using the search facility. Edit. John beat me to it |
Lester Burnham 03.11.2004 20:35 |
What's most embarrassing is that I read that one! How could I have forgotten?! Hasn't been my day, I must admit.
PS: "Back-issues" can be found under "Search" just punch in "Ultimate Collection".Bah, I'm an oldie - I should know where everything is! PPS: It was Lester's idea that I use that title so these items could be found easier using the search facility. Glad I took your advice mate!!!It was? Hmm, I'm more creative than I give myself credit! PPPS: So iy YOUR quickdraw - who does that make me???The Knowledgable One, I'll wager. Or you can always ask iGSM, as he comes up with better names. You don't think I'd go by the name Dr Incontinence, do ya! Back on topic: 'Batteries Not Included', eh? Who wrote that one? |
M. 03.11.2004 20:36 |
Thanks for your reply, John. "M: - so classic piece of German New Wave Cinema with Peter Lorre - or Pop Music?" I haven't seen this film for a long time... M(artin) :)) |
Mr Mercury 03.11.2004 20:56 |
John, did you forget all about the WWRY Sun freebie CD? Also, what about the pepsi promotional Enhanced CD of the Britney, Beyonce And Pink version of WWRY, which, according to the blurb, says that Brian did both Bass and lead guitars, Roger did the drums and backing vocals was supplied by Queen (from the original version), Suzie Webb and Zoe Nicholas? This was part of a 7 track CD which also included the TV advert and a behind the scenes of the advert. |
John S Stuart 03.11.2004 21:15 |
Mr. Mercury: John, did you forget all about the WWRY Sun freebie CD? No - but I thought we had settled this. No coloured vinyls, pic discs or fan remixes - just the music only. As the "Sun" frebbie was a bad (half) edit of the BBC version - in effect if you own the full BBC you have the "Sun" version also. The question is should this edit be included in it's own right? I guessed no - but I suppose it could be argued - it should. (I mean it is a legitimate release). Those WITHOUT the "Sun" disc are not really missing anything - are they? That's why it was consciously omitted. Also, what about the pepsi promotional Enhanced CD of the Britney, Beyonce And Pink version of WWRY... Good question - Again, I was going to put this under the 2004 section - but it could as easily fit in here I guess. (BTW - you can now obtain this CD as a non-promo item). Sometimes with these sort of misc tracks - it is possible to fit them into more than one category - but I personally think that a 2004 section would be a more logical place to include these. However, I do appreciate the contribution, and I well accept that I may be wrong on this one. I also think that it doesn't really matter if I am right or wrong - providing the track IS covered SOMEWHERE, and it IS catalogued, and I assure that it will be mentioned at a later stage. I hope this does not create some sort of confussion, or unholy war! What do you think? To be fair - I don't suppose it would do any harm to catalogue the track twice - after all two mentions are better than none. But a good thought-provoking call though! |
John S Stuart 03.11.2004 21:48 |
Lester: Batteries Not Included. It was either a John Deacon, or a Brian May track. I honestly think it was one of John's though. Spoiler alert: Remember, this may be a working title rather than an actual track, but I can't think what other John Deacon track from this period this title resembles! |
Adam Unger (QueenVault.com) 03.11.2004 23:17 |
Never heard of an edit of Spread Your Wings... is it just an early fade out like the video version? Also, I'm sure the Reznor mix of SYW is very interesting. |
Maz 04.11.2004 00:49 |
I think you answered this a long time ago, John, but do you know which version of WWRY came first: slow or fast? |
Hank H. 04.11.2004 07:54 |
So no other versions of Who Needs You? Someone mentioned a reggae-like retake. Which would have been too cool. |
Serry... 04.11.2004 08:49 |
Err... What's about Hollywood Records remaster's error version of 'It's Late'? |
John S Stuart 04.11.2004 14:26 |
Serry: See my above replies. Do you think "...Hollywood Records remaster's error of 'It's Late'?" warrants another inclusion? Is it really that different from the "original"? In the "Sheer Heart Attack" thread it was noted that "In The Lap Of The Gods" (US Hollywood SHA: US 1991 Hollywood HR-61036-246206 2) was indeed an Alternative Master Version and not just another edit/error mistake. (Although I have the disc - I have NOT done the bench test yet to personally confirm this - but I trust the source). Therefore, it is one of those grey areas. BUT, I am open to suggestion, and if you guys want the remastering errors included - then I can include them. |

"Hank: So no other versions of Who Needs You? Someone mentioned a reggae-like retake. Which would have been too cool. " John is listing his personal collection here. If John doesn't have something, it doesn't mean it doesn't excist. He for instance didn't mention some songs that were played at the convention. For example the outtake of Somebody To Love. And an alternate version of Great King Rat |

As fast as you included some fan remixes only available to download over Internet it could be good to see a complete list of versions with errors as well. Some of them are stupid like Queen Rocks' Fat Bottomed Girls, but some ones are welcome like version of 'Headlong' from the video with extra guitar bit (well, if it could be called as an error) or HR's 'I Want It All' version, 'cause it even changes mood of the part of the song. That's my opinion, so feel free to do in the way you like! |
John S Stuart 04.11.2004 17:47 |
FriedChicken: "...If John doesn't have something, it doesn't mean it doesn't excist... For example the outtake of Somebody To Love. And an alternate version of Great King Rat" Wait a minute guys - this is NOT about me. It is about pooling resources - and if I could GUARANTEE the two tracks above, I would include them. So, what we need is evidence. Not heresay or rumour. If it can be demonstrated that a track DOES indeed exist. Then let's get it on the list. The only reason they are NOT on, is that I have not seen, heard or received any confirmation. Now evidence like, but my friend said, or the source is reliable is b*llocks. We need clear, solid evidence, from at least two different sources. If that was the case - the YES, Yes, yes - they would most definately be included! |
Wilki Amieva 04.11.2004 18:59 |
Pretty useless, but please note that the karaoke version of Spread Your Wings is not entirely based on the album version, but it is sort of an instrumental mix downmixed work-in-progress during the original sessions (guitar arrangements are different). |
FriedChicken 05.11.2004 04:28 |
Alright John, Sorry. I thought you were just listing your Personal collection. I should make a list of songs that were played at the dutch convention. |

"John is listing his personal collection here. If John doesn't have something, it doesn't mean it doesn't excist. He for instance didn't mention some songs that were played at the convention. For example the outtake of Somebody To Love. And an alternate version of Great King Rat" EDIT: I'm too slow... Fried Chicken, John already mentioned numerous tracks he does not have, but knows about, of which he labelled some as "WANTED". You're right, not mentioning something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but the chances it does are minimal. Also, I wanted to be suggestive of the version so that maybe someone else (i.e. the person who is responsible for the rumour) could confirm/deny/discuss it, since there WERE people talking about it on this board. |
John S Stuart 05.11.2004 12:07 |
Friedchicken: "I should make a list of songs that were played at the dutch convention". Excellent. That would be a brilliant addition to the list. I know some RUMOURED tracks have been mentioned in here before, but not by me! So if it IS confirmable - let's get it verified. Here is a good example of Primary evidence: link 16th Official International Queen Convention Prestatyn 2001 "Greg Brooks played... unreleased... versions of... "Nevermore", "White Queen" (...BBC sessions), The Invisible Man (Roger on vocals), and one... Queen song from 1988 called "Face it". (Actually "Face it Alone" – John S. Stuart 2004). "ALL 15 BBC tracks will be in the Queen box... Man Made Paradise: there is a Queen version... Michael Jackson tracks... will eventually appear... VICTORY... they aren't allowed to release... the track has all the queen boys singing backing vocals... a selection of tracks will be released... as instrumentals... MOTHER LOVE, numerous versions with Roger and Brian singing... alternate versions of "These are the Days of Our Lives"... but all slightly diff though..." "Fast WWRY, no other version than the BBC version exists". However, GB also stated "1st Queen box expected to be released at end of 2002. The format is yet unknown..." Are there any other solid examples of reliable evidences or of GB on the record? |

Regarding the It's Late error, it is just a cueing error. IMHO, it does not make the song a 'different version' but a 'regular version plus error', as no proper editing/fading is involved. The same goes for the You Don't Fool Me (sexy club mix) from the UK CD single (CDQUEEN 25). I also include other digital-to-digital transfer errors in this category, such as the 'clicks' on Fat Bottomed Girls (album version) [1994 digital remaster] and You Don't Fool Me (THE EYE instrumental mix). |

Okay, This is what Greg played at the convention: Sandbox - A jam recorded during The Game sessions in 1979/1980. It's an instrumental song. And no pieces of this song were re-used in later songs. Brighton Rock - An early take of the well known SHA song. The music is more or less the same. The Bassguitar is very different, and it has no guitar overdubs. The solo is much shorter. And most of the lyrics consist of Lalala's by Freddie. Coming Soon - An instrumental Jam Session written by Roger. Recorded during the Jazz sessions in 1978. Small parts of this jam were used in the song which ended up on The Game. Great King Rat - An early version recorded in the early 1973s. Although this sounds weird, cause the melody is totally different, and so are the lyrics. The song didn't have electric guitars, only acoustic. And the intro is Freddie counting to, i believe, 16 In the Lap of the gods Revisited - Instrumental take. Nothing special. Although the end is a little bit different. Somebody to Love - Outtake of the accapella section. It features piano (You can hear this piano outtake on the Greatest Video Hits 1 dvd, as the intro music to Somebody to Love) After the clapping part there is an extra section which choirs singing the words "Somebody to Love" in canon Tenement Funster - Instrumental Take, it is very similar to the released version. It's mostly the bass parts and the drumming that is different. Flick of the Wrist - Insturmental Take, Probably one of the latest recordings of this song, since it's almost finished. The backing vocals are already on this track. Sail Away Sweet Sister - Live take, it's the guys recording the backing track. Freddie on Piano, John on Bass, Roger on Drums, and Brian is on guitar in the chorus. Piano is different near the ending. And Greg also told us about the song Freedom Train, which started out as a Queen track during the Innuendo sessions. And eventually ended up on Rogers Happiness (I think??) Album. I believe he also mentioned Love Kills starting out as a Queen track. can anyone confirm this? |
ShaneOnFire 01.12.2004 22:31 |
Wow! Freedom Train as a Queen song? I wonder if Freddie did any vocals for it...Sandbox sounds interesting, too.... |
Lester Burnham 01.12.2004 22:31 |

About LOVE KILLS Greg wrote as well in THE SOLO COLLECTION that it indeed started as a Queen track... |

the_hero wrote: same as Love me Like there's no tomorrow(?) it was meant to be the last track on the works before they wrote Is this the world we created..? And I bet there are more tracks meant to be Queen tracks, maybe Too much love will kill you, since Freddie did a demo of that song and it later on was released as a Queen track.NO- it was "Ther Must Be More To Life Than This"!!! "Heaven For Everyone" was meant to be a Queen track in 1986. |

John, I acquired the 12" single with the "Hardcore Mix" and "Jungle Mix" versions. However, sorry to disappoint you and several other Queen collectors out there, but they don't actually feature Queen themselves in the mixes as these are actually just covers, so should be recategorized as such! See FLAC link below for audible verification :-) (Enjoy otherwise! :-P ) link |
