For those of you who believe John Deacon does indeed sing. And I mean REALLY SING! (not just stand in front of a microphone lypsynching). I have a question: On which track (either studio or live) can you spot John Deacon singing? |
Boy Thomas Raker 02.11.2004 13:29 |
Procession and God Save the Queen. |
brENsKi 02.11.2004 13:33 |
none. but on Dead On Time - they were allegedly going to use a different ending - they just got John to la-la-la a middle C, unfortunately his "la-la-las" were too close to the sound of a cat trapped in a bandsaw, and animal cruelty brigade insisted they change the ending - hence the thunderbolt |

I feel that Johnny boy was responsible for the marijuana shit on AOBTD. I sense it very strongly. |
Tim Goossen 02.11.2004 14:56 |
to add a serious reply: at the famous Earls Court gig (6 June 1977), during 'somebody to love'. Cheers, Tim |
Sonja 02.11.2004 15:12 |
I heard that his mic wasn't even turned on most of the time. |
deleted user 02.11.2004 15:13 |
MOST, but not all the time. Enigmatic, isn't it? |
Bohardy 02.11.2004 15:29 |
"to add a serious reply: at the famous Earls Court gig (6 June 1977), during 'somebody to love'". - I remember the first time I heard that, just sitting there dumbstruck for a bit thinking "I swear there were four voices there", then listening to it over and over again and realising that you could hear Johnny-boy going for it, crystal clear. I felt like I'd discovered the holy grail of Queen music. |
Negative Creep 02.11.2004 15:31 |
Its hard to tell whether what he's singing is actually going through the desk or not. He could have just been mixed low and blended in with the other 3 to add a BIT of depth. |
Josuè 02.11.2004 16:37 |
I payed attention to Somebody To Love in Earls Court carefully some time ago, and I couldn't hear John... |
Bohardy 02.11.2004 16:45 |
Well pay more attention next time, young man! He's there, clear as can be, in the middle singalong section, doing the lowest part of "Find, me, somebody to love, Find, me, somebody to love...". No doubt about it. |
Scirocco1977 02.11.2004 17:24 |
Talking about live vocals, I even cannot hear Brian's voice... It is always Fred and Roger. Who is willing to give me some live songs where I can clearly hear Brian... |
iGSM 02.11.2004 18:35 |
Just about any live 'Tie Your Mother Down'...distinctly audible. |
deleted user 02.11.2004 18:54 |
Brian's was the softer one, I think. Roger's voice was a bit rough. |

I remember the Wembley gig, in AKOM, Spike "Hairy back" Edney was a bit off the rhythym and snuck in a few misplaced lines... |
LadyMoonshineDown 02.11.2004 19:07 |
John is really the first, deepest voice on 'Somebody to Love?' Hmm... How come he never really sang in other songs? And he is never listed on albums as vocals too. |
iGSM 02.11.2004 19:12 |
Insignificance. |
LiveAidQueen 02.11.2004 19:22 |
I don't even care if he did or not. |
Sebastian 02.11.2004 19:56 |
The deepest voice in Somebody To Love (and others like Bo Rhap) is Freddie Brian's vocals in 80s tours are very quiet, note Let Me Entertain You at Montreal: Brian joins Freddie for "crazy performance" but you only hear Freddie (and Roger). At Wembley Brian is notable in Tie Your Mother Down in "friend of mine", but for the rest he was only clearly audible when he took over the lead vocals (One Vision & Hello Mary Lou). As for John, I think the mic was on (but very quiet like Brian's in the 80s). Still I don't hear him (or at least clearly). The Somebody To Love out-of-pitch voice at Earls Court I'm pretty sure is Brian's. |
Ozz 02.11.2004 20:46 |
I just listen to Somebody To Love at Earls Court and i can hear john voice in the "find me part". is clear because he is talking the song instead of singing... i can hear a strong voice, a little low |
croc 03.11.2004 04:59 |
are U all mad he sings live on liar through Freds mike |
kohuept 03.11.2004 10:20 |
I'll have to go back and listen to S2L, but I can hear him very well in the "wo wo la la la" ending of Lap of Gods. It's odd that the most obvious part in Liar, I can't pick out his voice. |
Rick 03.11.2004 10:49 |
On the Milton Keynes DVD during Somebody To Love, after the guitar solo, Freddie sings: 'Somebody! And Roger and John(!): 'Somebody'! Not Brian, at that moment he is away from the mic, really, just pay attention and see for yourself, after that point John is laughing a bit, because he'd just sang! I don't believe his mic was off, its volume is lower, but not off, it must be on in case of an emergency, for example if Freddie's mic doesn't work anymore. This has happened in Buenos Aires 1981, during Save Me, from that point Freddie grabs the mic from John and continued singing, only the volume had to be raised. |
kohuept 03.11.2004 15:45 |
oh yeah... you can hear and see him sing "do wop" on you're so square at Wembley. |
Serry... 03.11.2004 15:53 |
His mic was probably on just because Roger sang to it during rock'n'roll medley (and John for some words as well). Didn't he sing in chorus at 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by 'Bad News' band? |
love of my life 14018 03.11.2004 16:29 |
John sings? Hell, I didn't even know he could talk!!!!! Kidding, but, seriously, he does sing in Liar "all day long..." |
Smartie 03.11.2004 16:48 |
I think it was quite nice to hear John talking to the girl on the "LIve at Budapest" Video. It was quite funny because the girl talked about Paul McCartney and i guess she didn't even know who John is! :) |

I picture a bunch of fans staking out the hotel, waiting for the band to come out, and they don't even spot John as he walks right past them. :) |
iGSM 03.11.2004 18:47 |
I laugh that when he lost his license he was able to take the bus and not be recognised. I also cry when John tries to talk at the Concert for Life and people are cheering over him. Poor bloke. |
redyfredy01 03.11.2004 18:58 |
I have never heard John Deacons voice, unless, of course i just simply didn't notice it on any live DVD or something, but i mean really, he has a voice, and i am sure it isn't COMPLETELY terrible, it's not like he has the voice of a dying cow. |
iGSM 03.11.2004 19:00 |
It is suprisingly English. More so than Roger or Brian. He also has a ... *lisp* (I'm not exactly sure what it is but I'm using lisp at the moment). He has a ruddy good sense of humour. |

Poor bloke.AHAHAA!!! See, I'll end up like that. Going on public transportation, and some kid will nudge me over on the seat because they think I'm stupid -- and no one will have any clue who the heck I am. Love it. But poor John. Aw, I'd like to hear him sing. I bet it's not half as bad as everyone makes it out to be. (Nothing that a little practice can't cure.) :) Hehehee, of course, coming from someone who takes voice privately ... but seriously. |
redyfredy01 04.11.2004 10:43 |
John sounds just like the person that i am. Looses things, is always the forgotten one, and has a good sense of humor. He would be my best friend. [lol] Except i don't think that i sing as bad as everybody says the way John sings. |
little rocker 04.11.2004 21:33 |
well he really sings , if you people listen to this song THE INVISIBLE MAN, there´s a voice that says "John Deacon " and he stars to sing:"now i´m your room and i´m your bed...... " |

Greetings Thijs AKA the heroI agree... Freddie often chose to have John sing with him during Liar in the early days.. you can even see John going up to the Mic at the Tribute Concert as well as many other shows.. |

IT ain't too hard to hear that it is Fred's vocal part... |

When you see John at wembley, During "Lap of the Gods" in the "whoo whoo la la" part he must be singing it as he looks as though he is straining to get to the higher notes, not just saying them! however this mike could of been switched off ! |
Rick 05.11.2004 14:35 |
I've heard John singing during Somebody To Love at Earls Court 1977. Just listen really carefully, only concentrate on the voices, than you will be able hearing him. John sings with an 'accent', just like the way he talks, he really IS singing... |
deleted user 05.11.2004 19:12 |
I think he can sing. Maby just a little but i think he could. Almost every musician can sing a little. I Noticed that he sings in the mic in Live At Wembley but I don't hear his voice, I have never heard it :S |
Sebastian 05.11.2004 20:11 |
I think his mic was on but very low volume. And in Earls Court the sound engineer left it a little too loud :) |
iGSM 06.11.2004 00:17 |
Brian mentioned that John 'sang' parts of Another One Bites the Dust to Freddie, isn't that right? |

I always hear it :P |
Sebastian 06.11.2004 18:51 |
In Seven Seas & Forever you're absolutely right. In Tear It Up it's Spike the one you hear loud ("oh yeah") |
Yogurt 07.11.2004 00:37 |
I thought he was singing the low notes for bicyle race and fat bottomed girls..in the beginning of both songs. but it doesnt matter to me if he sang or not. |
Sebastian 07.11.2004 05:33 |
Fat Bots - I also think it's John. Don't have any proofs though Bicycle - I'm pretty sure it's Freddie |
