I'm sure it's been discussed before, but why are there sooo many demos of this song? It appears as if there are at least 10 different versions of this floating around. Does anyone know the difference, and can anyone tell me which is the closest to a complete finished song?
i've counted (and collected) seven.
but at least two appear to be completely diferent arrangements
and one is a rough recording - with studio background noise
and at least one other sounds like a different song
will look into my copies and report back
I have no idea, why there are 7 versions.
Since they are all the same version, But each one is in better, or worse quality. Or recorded at the convention.
Two different version exsist of this song. One is a complete 3 min. version (there are many fakes of this), the other is just an improvvisation, better in quality but shorter. See also Queenpicturehall.
okay i've come back with some info (promised i would)
so here goes:-
take1: 3:06 distorted/loud, recording level very high, clapped intro
take2: clear talk intro, average qual
take3: 3:10 rougher version but very clear freddie spoken intro
take4: 3:00 very poor qual, no spoken intro ends suddenly on guitar note
take7: 2:36 best recording, five seconds same talk, but quiet
part1: 2:10 totally different song sounds like a cross between feelings, feelings and see what a fool - showing my ignorance here - should know what this is
part2: 2:54 very poor quality
all in all - i reckon these are all from the same take but just recorded by different means - ie the clear freddie talking obv off soundboard - weheras the quieter spoken intros were someone's (ahem) "home recording"
There are just TWO versions:
1) Feelings - introduction / Silver Salmon (take #4?) 2:08 (full original recording - time varies according to the source).
2) Silver Salmon (take #5?) 3:06 (full: starts with chat, ends with a snippet of the Seven Seas Of Rhye piano introduction - time also varies according to the source).
Hope this helps.
Good to see we all agree :)
Now it's clear as mud :)
I have one that also starts with heavy guitar and mine ends at 3.02 but it sounds cut off. I'll chase the soundboard one I think.

I only have one version. It starts with heavyish guitar and is very poor quality. Aprox 3 mins.
sorry my bad english but...i have played drums and one thing makes me wonder if silver salmon demo is from 71. there is part where roger taylor plays high sounded tom tom's. he started use those somewhere between a day at the races / Jazz records.
