Maybe this has been discussed before. So accept my apologies in case this is an old topic:
After Radio Gaga performed at Knebworth, John is furiously throwing away his bass-guitar. (As seen in the Rare Live video; picture to be found link )
Does anybody know why John was so frustrated?
He might have been rejected by a groupie...
Was a guy killed at that concert? I forgot which concert it was... Maybe he was angry continuing playing on that day...
I went to this concert and I remember John throwing his guitar at the end of A Kind Of Magic, I may be wrong there. I wrote to the Fan Club about this, and they replied, "John had wanted the cartoon figures of the band put onto his bass guitar, when he saw the guitar, the work had not been done, so in a fury at the end of the song, he threw the guitar away in disgust".
I dont actually have the letter with me at the moment but that was the gist of it. Ill try to dig it out and put the correct quote down.
Maybe it's one of those "you open the gate you can't close it" and he got pissed at Magic and threw the black bass. Then he was still pissed and at the end of Ga Ga threw the back-up bass. That would mean in the second encore he played in the third bass, but the Rare Live video show him so zoomed out to check
@ Sebastian. You can get a better glimpse of the bass-guitar via the above mentioned link. It links to a German Queen forum. Just scroll down a little to the picture.
I do find this pretty strange. John really runs off-stage. He seems very pissed off.
I had'nt realised that John had also thrown his guitar during GaGa. A possible explanation for this is as you say, a Status Quo fan had been stabbed during the show. If John had been given the news of his death, it would explain this sudden outburst of anger.
A couple of things I vividly recall from that day is being attacked by a swarm of greenfly, bottles being thrown everywhere, how someone was'nt seriously hurt during that, I do not know. And a woman trying to give her baby to people, so they could pass it to the back, through the crowd.

Yes it was during this show. And baby was born too.
something very strange in the "natural equilibrium" of that concert - nature is reknowned for giving and taking away in equal measures
odd that aT QUEEN's final gig this balance was never more evident?

Yeah kinda mystical... Besides, this show was never planned before Magic Tour started and the idea came after their Wembley success, so it even could not be happened at all.

That was his moment. It was the last concert, after all. Freddie had thrown his fit a while back, Brian gutted his guitar, Roger demolished his drum kit, and John, saving the best for last, blasted his bass guitar.
It would be hard to destroy the piano :)
Anyway, since I don't have Rare Live, could any of you please check which bass was John playing during the song? If it was the Red or the Black one? in the photo I see it a little red but it can easily be due to the light. And both basses have the same form so there's no way to notice
Thanks

Pretty sure it's the red one

Yeah, definetly -I think he would never throw away his late-60-Fender...
Ooh, I know this one, I know this one...!
After the gig, John was dancing in the disco end of the food tent backstage, and I asked him what the deal was with his guitar tantrum and he said (and I quote): "Oh, I was just pissed off!".
Very deep man, Deaky.
And what was I doing there? I'd won a Daily Mirror Contest to see Queen at Wembley and meet them backstage. About 20 of us sat in the VIP area to watch the gig, were then taken backstage afterwards, met Brian and Roger and then were thrown out by Security. We complained to QP, Harp (sponsors) and the Daily Mirror, and they arranged for us all to go to Knebworth on a luxury coach, free beer all the way, VIP enclosure at the gig and invited to the backstage party. Great fun!
And this was my first post, so Hi everyone, especially Fatty, who should publish his inspired nonsense - the world needs to know... but slowly.

A black guy was killed during a free Stones concert by a Hells Angel during Sympathy for The Devil.
The concert was live at the altamont in '69, and they had Hells Angels for protections, because it was free.
I got it on tape, very sad.
Dennis
It's not a black bass guitar. I don't know much about their guitars... still i know colours...
Strange, I thought there would be some information about that.
