Well, another one question for Queen experts is: all Queen songs since 'The Miracle' album contributed to Queen, although about some ones we can exactly say who wrote this or that song, even 'Let Me Live' which is coming from 'The Works' era, but released much later than 'The Miracle' and because of it stated as 'Queen', but - why does 'Mother Love' then contributes to Brian and Freddie, but not 'Queen'?
A very good question indeed. I'd say, just listen to the song... there is very little John and Roger there in the first place! It seems to be a Brian creation with Freddie's last vocal on it. I'm sure Roger and John didn't mind that their names weren't tagged onto a track they had little to no input on.
I think i read somewhere that this was one of the few songs freddie and brian wrote together, and it took a long time to do because it was done when fredie was very ill
Sir GH - I am really not sure that Freddie have a lot of works with 'Hijack My Heart' or 'Lost Opportunity', but they does not contributes to Roger and Brian...
It was the last ever recorded Freddie's song (from the released ones), during some summer/autumn 1991 sessions, I guess.
Roger and John hardly did aything in Bijou, for instance, but it's still credited to the band. So no idea about the Mother Love credit.
As for the song, lyrics are by Freddie (except for the last verse), based on the fact there's a manuscript by him (and considering how ill he was, I don't think Brian came up with the lyrics and put Fred to write them as a secretary)

Here's my view Brian has gone on record saying that he was furiously writing lyrics for Freddie to sing durung the last sessions. It is essentially a Brian May song more so when you consider he sung the last verse.
Sebastian I don't want to start another aguement but your opinion cannot be taken seriously when you still say that John sang on Queen records through second-hand sources and dubious quotes. For the very last time John NEVER sang on any Queen record. Although I think he played bass.
I'm off to London now so I'll see you next week.
>Brian has gone on record saying that he was furiously writing lyrics for Freddie to sing durung the last sessions.
He also said he remembers Mother Love as the best collaboration he had with Freddie, along with when they wrote a verse of Show Must Go On.
> when you still say that John sang on Queen records
In which part of this thread did I say that? could it BE any more out of context?
> through second-hand sources
Which exactly?
> and dubious quotes.
They're such as dubious or strong as any other.
> For the very last time John NEVER sang on any Queen record.
If you know how to use a mouse, you can click in the link in my signature and enter my site. If you know how to look, please tell me in which part of it I say John sings. I don't say (in the website) that he does, neither I say he doesn't. I THINK he did, but I don't have anything mentioning that in my current site. Again, could it be any more out of context?
Seb, if it's wouldn't be hard for you: can you tell me - is singing Roger back-vocal in 'The Great Pretender' or there is just Freddie's BV?
(I don't want to start new topic with just this one question)
Found the article. It is from the German magazine "Metal Attack" from April 1991. It is a special edition about Queen's 20th anniversary. The following excerpt is about Roger's solo stuff in 1987:
"[...],doch alles, was er tatsächlich unternahm, war das Einsingen von Freddies 'Great Pretender'-Single."
in English it would be:
"[...] but all he [Roger] really did was singing for Freddies single 'Great Pretender'.
Yeah, I remember watching the Champions video and seeing two things from Brian. One, he says that he was writing stuff for Mother Love and then handing it to Freddie to sing. And two, prior to this part of the video he mentions the "wings of butterflies" line that he wrote and gave to Freddie in the song.
Peace,
Adam.
P.S. Seb, you have always claimed on this site how John has sang on this or that. I believe that's what's being referred to.
Can I through my tuppence worth in?
I thought that joint writing credits were a way of bringing them together and closing ranks when they realised Freddie was ill.
Once he was gone it mattered less, so they let the credit go to Mercury and May.
About Mother Love - I think something's clear: the credit May/Mercury is for a reason. Also in some recent (1 or 2 months ago) comment in his soapbox Brian mentioned Mother Love was his fave collaboration with Freddie along with one verse of Show Must Go On (which surely is different from the bridge with the "butterflies" line). So if Brian wrote lyrics, Fred wrote music. But imo, they must have co-written both. It's definitely not 100% either one of them anyway
About my site - I HAD mentioned that but I don't anymore and even if I did, that was way off topic.

Well, how about 'You don't fool me', 'A Winter's Tale', 'It's A Beautiful Day', 'Let Me Live'? What's wrong with them then?
