So, regarging the bootlegs:
"With expert advice from three acknowledged experts on Queen bootlegs; Frank Hazenberg, Andreas Voigts, Frank Palstra, we offer only the most interesting and significant material."
OK, fine, I might buy that. But do they call the songs by their proper names? I mean, I'm a BIG fan, but I'm no expert. Nonetheless, I know the names of the songs on Queen's official LPs, and I know the smell of bullshit.
So I begin listening to the 30 second clips at link to see what the 3 Bootleg performances sounded like... and guess what?
"Life Is Real":
#8 "Save Me" is really Dragon Attack
#9 "Calling All Girls" is the final guitar chord of SOMETHING OR OTHER (can't really tell), followed by audience noise. ONLY. what a lovely excerpt!!!
#10 "Get Down Make Love" is really Save Me.
"Last Stand":
#6 "Death On Two Legs" is actually (and I am REALLY surprised by this) March of the Black Queen SEGUEING into My Fairy King. AWESOME!
But it doesn't take an EXPERT to tell it's not Death On Two Legs.
Honestly, guys, lay off the pints and concentrate. Or maybe the sheer VOLUME of THREE WHOLE CONCERTS AT A TIME is just too much to demand... good luck getting all 100 done, ya buncha feces-throwing chimps.
what the fuck?

You'd best not be joking about this.
EDIT: I can't seem to get to Last Stand.
EDIT2: Why would anybody spend money on these?
Well, it doesn't say that ehese experts were responsible for choosing the excerpts or for placing them online. Someone might have screwed up their job.
What I do not understand is that these "experts" are notorious bootleggers and traders - so why reward the criminal twice?
Yet real live experts like "Mr.Scully" are ignored and treated quite badly?
Why do "Queen" have to support the enemy - when for genuine fans - this would be a labour of love?
I can't even listen to the "30-second-clips" ? If I download with "Save target as... " it's just 1 kb and if I doubleclick, Winamp opens but doesnt play ? Can someone help ?
Don't be so surprised that the sub-standard product is sub-standard and I bet that there will be no after-sales support available for this service.
I'm guessing here, but I would imagine that all that has happened is someone has converted a standard boot CD to a format that can be downloaded from the site and they have simply taken each CD track (with all the accompanying incorrect track queues and titles) and posted it up.
It's quite funny really.

I'm sure you're quite right in this assumption, which is why the prices are kept so low. No investment made, no investment to recoup (SP?).
Well, regardless of all this nonsense, I'm going to plunk down a few quid & get one tonight, I think, to see if the rest are worth it.
btw - the navigation on the site is dodgy. Don't link to the bootlegs from the "Bootlegs" page, because the links for Jazz Final & Last Stand are the SAME LINK (DUH!!!). Instead, go from the "Browse Catalog" page - the links are correct there. link
yo-ho-ho! we're OK! we just close our eyes all day!

But why go to such lengths as to explain that the reason for doing this is because bootleggers provide fans with sub-standard product, only to then go ahead and provide fans with sub-standard product, which they will almost certainly already own?
AND, into the bargain, name people that are active traders in Queen collecting circles. perhaps there's a great deal more to this: Do these three guys hold material that Queen want back - ie "Hangman" etc ad-infinitum?
Hands up if anyone thinks that "The band" have been included in this decision? I sent a letter to Brian (via the soapbox thing) asking his opinion on it - chances of him actually getting to see it after it gets to the gatekeeper?

There's no mystery here. Now that CD burners and the internet have made it so easy to sell/distribute bootlegs, the band Queen have a choice: (1) to continue being angry about it and go on being ostriches with their heads buried in sand hoping it stops ---OR--- (2) make SOME money on the proposition themselves. Let's face it, once this thing gets going, it will be a convenient, legal, central distribution point for the recordings. It will greatly decrease the demand from other venues (the bootleg "sales channel").
And I don't have ANY bootlegs, other than the one vinyl pressing I've had for years. I may not buy a whole lot, but if every fan only downloads 5 or 10 on average, they're still poised to make a HUGE killing, given the investment (which is nominal, as we've already established). Far more money than they'd stand to make letting bootleggers do all the selling (which would be 0.00).
>Far more money than they'd stand to make >letting bootleggers do all the selling (which >would be 0.00).
And a reputation for making shitty quality, sub-standard product available to their fans.
Top quality marketing of a legend at work here.
Hey, hold up! No one ever said that this replaces or usurps any effort to properly remaster, remix & release live shows that were properly captured (soundboard recordings)... there is no evidence to suggest they're stopping releases of this kind (Wembley 86, now Milton Keynes Bowl). I'm sure more will follow in time.
I've listened to over 250 bootlegs over the past few years, and have been critiquing their live work for just as long. All I'll say is, if these three guys are experts, then I'm Brian May.

LOL,
nice to meet you Mr. May.
Could somebody tell me where QP find these experts ??.
