I wonder why, the good collectors from this forum always tought Celebration was a track from the Strange Frontier sessions when it's really easy know why that demo is from the early Cross period.
If we listen carefully anybody will wonder why it was always said Celebration is a SF session demo.
Cesar Madarro: This is very easy to answer, because "Celebration" comes from the unreleased "Strange Frontier" LP acetates. I should know... they were MY acetates! Ron received his taped copy from me. (Why not ask him if you do not believe me - point him to this thread!).
I still have the discs. I know the running order of the tracks, and I can tell you exactly where it features on the album. Now, if it appears on those discs - how can you argue against that?
(Is this another example of my overbounding genorosity - why yes - I believe it is!!!).
As to your "Cross" clues - acetates come with no (or very little) information - so apart from the tracks on the disc - there is nothing to say who played what - where. (Also remember - as an example - what began as a Freddie/MJ demo moved onto become a Queen - then a Freddie track), so it is very possible that "Celebration" does bear many "Cross" hallmarks without it being a "Cross" track itself.
As a postscript: This is the same source for "Keep On Running" - and I am sure you can read all about this in an earlier thread.
I hope this helps.
I just can say: 1) backing vocals are sung by Peter Noone who met Roger first in order to be part of the new band that would be called the Cross.
2) Roger does sing his then new rap trademark he came with in the Cross early days (Shove It and some lines from Cowboys and Indians)
So the final take we all know can only be from that period of time...I think
Thanks
Neither 1) nor 2) is conclusive. So I tend to believe JSS.
On 1) who knows when Peter and Roger started collaborating?
On 2) such things have a way of evolving so, again, not clear evidence.
I don't know who's right, but I wanna say: you can't exactly say who sings BVs, it depends on how deep you can hear and get right who sings at the background. For instance, some people says that 'Yeah' from 'You had to be there' sounds like Freddie's voice. And actually the SF style is a little similar to the Shove It tracks, so it's again depends on your own opinion, though I think JSS wouldn't lie.
Roger's first 'rap' was on 'Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad)', released as a B-side of some Strange Frontier track (can't remember which).
Very odd to hear a Cyndi Lauper-esque rap...
Spike Edney was the only member in the band not coming from auditions held in 1987. So any vocals from any other Cross member cant be earlier than that. And you can listen one of them singing that line...
Cesar: I have already told you where the track is taken from. Now if you do not believe me - that's fine. I pointed you towards Ron for clarification - but you never checked that out - did you.
Here's a thought... you may think you have a good version of the track... but you do not. The version I have is 100% quality, and unless you have that then you really can not say who it is on BV's. I accept that it may sound to you like PN - but is your source reliable? Is it MP3? Is it at the correct speed, does it suffer from loss or degeneration problems?
I accept you hear what you think, I can not argue against that, but for the second time it comes from an unreleased Roger Taylor - Strange Frontier acetate.

Now, whatever your personal beef on the discussions here recently, I'd have thought that a post along the lines of "I own a 1984 SF acetate with Celebration on it" should be an end to such a discussion....
Personally, I thought it sounded very like The Cross when I first heard it too, but in the context of it appearing alongside Keep On Running (which was listed in 1984 as being a recorded track for the album) and the source being fairly well known, I'm 100% satisfied that it's a SF track.
OK, thanks for the info John.
I checked Ron's site some time ago and I read the info about the track...and it was what made me think it had to be wrong.
It's just it's still hard to believe that track is from 1984. But I'll be OK with it.
Thanks for the opinion on my art, I still haven't tried anything Queen...
