Check out Brian's Soapbox for what little he said about it on Monday.
I gave up the opportunity to audition for Vegas as a guitarist, in favour of Toronto, which was to happen early next year. And now, Toronto is "on hold", which is often a euphamism for "cancelled indefinitely", especially in the Queen world.
You guys can only imagine how I'm feeling now.
Yeah, I read this in the Sunday Star. Apperently, even though Mirvish made like $50 million on Hairspray and the Producers, they are "still" losing money and they don't see how they would make $ off of WWRY.
Ya damn right it's Canada..Great Beer, Great Ladies and no George W.!!!!
Just give us OUR hockey back ( More specifically, GO LEAFS GO!!!!)
I know wstussyb, just like South Park said,
BLAME CANADA, with all the hockey hubba baloo, and that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada...
Mike
Its a real shame about Toronto. I was really looking forward to being there for opening night. There is still a chance according to Brian, so I guess we'll have to hope.
I am very sorry for you, Bob. What a terrible disappointement. Maybe they find another sponsor, after all the whole Queen machinery is very much focussed on the musical.
Yes Bob, I read about it on Sunday... I was kind of hoping it would still happen though.... do they need a longer commitment?? Something about a six-week run not making money... I don't have the article in front of me....
This is such a big disappointment. I was really looking forward to this, I already had 3 friends reserved to come see it with me . . . I'm fortunate enough that I already saw the musical in London though, I've had my chance to get everything out of it that I possibly could. I can only imagine how you're feeling right now Bob . . .
According to the Toronto Star website, the main problem lies in the Canadian Actors' Union, and their strict rules. I don't think it has much to do with the quality or anything of the actual musical itself, so I guess we just have to hope that the union and the theatres can get this all sorted out soon.
well hairspray is leaving tho, it just couldn't hold out. producer's is holding out, and there's nothing else really worth talking about, i would have rather have had lion king stay until WWRY came because there seems to be a slump ever since the production left.
To make matters worse, Brian didn't get my email about this. That's the second very important WWRY-related email that Jen felt she could reply to herself, and so again, what I feel are my important words didn't reach Brian's eyes. Equally disappointing.
Anyone wanna come over this weekend and drink away their sorrows with me? ;)
Maybe Mirvish is also antsy about committing too much to a show like this -- Mamma Mia may have gone on strong for two/three years (don't remember off hand), but Tommy was canned with two weeks' notice in about 7 months.
And purely honorary, as I'm sure he'd be the first to admit.
Aahh, don't get me started on honorary doctorates. Dilutes the whole process, in my opinion.
Then give him some other form of recognition for his accomplishments. Rich and powerful people do not need this type of recognition that real PhDs have to bleed for.
Ahhh, I said don't get me started.
