I was in school today and the subject of music came up , and a girl said Queen are the best band to ever walk the earth, then about 4 other people agreed with her, so just letting you know Queen are still quite popular amongst younger people, except for them bloody tosspots who go around listening to that crap and not having a clue what REAL music is!
Tosspots : Young people that go around thinking they are the hardest thing, wear all this crappy clothes that they think make them look cool and listen to crappy r n b and dance, house , techno etc
I think that when I was at school, I might have has some sort of influence on my friends when it came to listening to Queen. After Freddie died when I was at high school there seemed to be a whole new Queen audience at my school, all asking me if I could record them stuff. When I see people from school these days they still ask if im a fan and i say "yeah , more than ever!" and most of them just say how good it is!
And I arranged a trip in 1993 to see Brian in Manchester. 13 of us went on a bus. We were only 14/15. Watching the fattest girl in school headbanging to the Bohemian Rhapsody section in Ressurection was quite amusing! Quite an enduring image!!
* I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST FAT PEOPLE *
Thats before I get hammered!
What is 'house' music anyway? HOUSES?!?!!?!?!?!!?!!?
You have to admit programming a synth/scratching a turn table must indeed be strenuous work. And c'mon! Carrying back those brief cases full of money you got from a hard nights work at a club would be heavy! Then there's getting into your 4WD and having to turn the key and go home to your model wife.
Something like that. Much harder than playing a guitar or tinkling the ivories.
I mananged to turn about 8 people to Queen while I was at school. I was happy enough..but not as happy as a DJ or a synth player.
"Just my two cents worth there. I just cant relate to the music now, got a problem with that?"
Not at all. 'Not relating' is a perfectly acceptable comment. Bashing an entire genre based on a stereotype or certain aesthetic is just ignorance.
" What is 'house' music anyway? "
Basically, electronically produced dance music: link
"Something like that. Much harder than playing a guitar or tinkling the ivories."
Exactly. That's an ignorant statement that weakens any serious commentary you'd have on Queen's talent or lack thereof.
Musical talent is musical talent. The instrument is merely a conduit. There are crappy DJs and there are brilliant DJs. There are crappy guitar players and there are brilliant ones. Etc. To like Queen is to appreciate a rather large span of music genres as it is. If youre musical tastes can be encapsulated by one single FM radio station, then perhaps it's time to broaden your CD collectoin a bit. ;o)
