Brimon 09.10.2004 12:33 |
You want to get into the plumbing trade, that's where the money is. How many marine biologists can put in a bog, not many. But they'll pay good money to have one put in though. |

I want my frist job to be in a CD Store. I need a job. Now that I'm 16, I'm allowed to work, but people here only want to hire people with "experience." |

I'm not old enough for a job. Yay! But I would want to work in a record store. That would be fun! Although, I don't think I would get much money...hmm... |
KillerQueen840 09.10.2004 17:17 |
It's early...but it would be volunteering..not working..I wouldn't get paid. But I think that where I live, possibly next year I can be a bagger at a grocery store..woowhoo.. |

I first worked at Six Flags California, 16 y.o. as a park sweeper. Got promoted to Lead Sweeper after 9 mos. When i got promoted, I had, at one given time, 10 people under my supervision. I quit last august, and am trying to get in Home Depot. |
deleted user 09.10.2004 18:00 |
Same here. I was able to work because I just migrated here in the U.S. and I graduated high school at 16, so to be productive, I got a job. I bought myself a car with all that hardwork, makes you feel proud. Just convince your parents of all the reasons why you should work, and reassure them that you're not gonna splurge all your cash on some stupid shit. |
deleted user 09.10.2004 18:15 |
Well, if you're gonna buy something like that, buy it secretly, let your parents discover it, and say "Well, it's my money!" They can't do shit about it, but don't do it every time. |

I work. Too much... |
Janet 09.10.2004 19:29 |
My son is 17. Last year at 16 he got his first job behind the snack counter at our local cinema. He hated it, but really wanted the money. He is extremely good with computers, and he went to a friends house several months ago and fixed a problem on their computer. The friends Dad, who is vice-president of an engineering and surveying company (and who also handles the computer network at that company) was impressed at how quickly Chris found the problem and fixed it, and asked my son if he'd like a job. Of course, Chris said 'yes!', so he is now the systems administrator and maintains the computer network for that company. He also works at the high school he attends, fixing and maintaining the schools computer network. He just bought his first car, a Corvette. Not bad for a kid who's not even 18 yet.... (okay, i'm finished being a proud mom now ;-) ) |

Hem, when my son told me that he wanted to get a job, I was at first concerned that his school work would slip, etc. He promised me that nothing like that would happen, so we made an agreement that he could take his first job, but if I saw any difference in his studying or his school work slipping, he'd have to quit, period. In fact, its been quite the opposite. Working has made him much more responsible, and he's doing great in school. Maybe you could try making a deal like that with your parents. Agree on a "trial" period of time, and that if you neglect your studies, etc, in any way, or if they're not happy with anything about the situation, you'll quit. And then prove to them that you can do it! |

I used to talk to (and still do occasionally) a bloke in the States who happened to be working for a web design company. Then he just disappeared. Months later he came online and he told me that he'd been given a huge project that earnt him squillions of dollars. He moved to Florida and set up his own company. He was out of the business as soon as he was in it. Set for freakin' life. I got a job as a singer in a band..it's called Queen. Wait..I think that was some other guy.. Freddie Mercury. At the moment I cook. I COOK! |

Maybe I'm in a minority but I really enjoy my job, here at Sheffield Hallam University. Thanks in no small part to the constant, unlimited internet access that comes with it as well ;o) Oh yes, and the people I work with who are all really nice, whether they're academics or my admin colleagues. Hope they keep me on ... |

I work at a movie theatre. It's great fun really! Selling popcorn isn't the best job in the world, but on the occasion, I get to be an usher, which I LOVE! My first job was at a fast food restaurant, which I didn't enjoy very much, but at least it gave me a good experience, and put something on my resume. |

For the past two summers, I worked at Dorney Park amusement parks in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I was first hired as a ride operator, then was promoted after a month to the assistant supervisor of that ride. I came back this past summer as the supervisor of one of the biggest rollercoasters in the park, and next summer, I hope to be a supervisor of a whole area of rides in the park. If that happens, I get a walkie-talkie! When I'm not busting my ass at the amusement park, for the past four years I'd worked as a busser/server/bitch/host at a local restaurant, earning decent pay, but my hours got cut back SEVERELY this past spring, and it was only as one position (bitch), so I declined to come back in September. Thankfully, my mom started training me on book designing (as she is a book designer), and I'm helping her design books, making about $20/hr. |
