Why has John Deacon be retired??? |
| juls 06.10.2004 10:48 |
Is he? :) Maybe he does not give a f**k in doing 2-hour concerts in huge stadiums, playing his famous hits like Misfire, Who needs you, In only seven Days or Cool Cat. ;-) Who knows - he is a lazy bit*h :) |
| deleted user 06.10.2004 11:02 |
ehmmmm.....he is a good men, it's my opinion |
| juls 06.10.2004 11:11 |
...nobody said he's bad, I just wrote jokingly that he is lazy nowadays, I mean in musical productivity, and sure he is a good man, if he was not good, he wouldnt be my fav. queen member. |
| deleted user 06.10.2004 11:12 |

Because life is short, he is a multi-millionaire, and he wants to spend the remainder of his time on this planet with his wife and children. God bless him, if I miraculously won the lottery on Saturday, I would do EXACTLY the same, and I defy anyone in here to claim that they would do otherwise. If he was to read this - go fill your boots John! |
| LiveAidQueen 06.10.2004 18:38 |
What I meant, is I'd be sick of using the Queen logo and going on and on with it... |

He also sits on his ass, playing Monopoly, whilst the royalties from the few songs he (co-)wrote that were used in WWRY Musical roll in. Good thing he's rich, otherwise his 7 kids would have a hard time otherwise getting money from their parents to go to college! :9 |
| iGSM 06.10.2004 22:01 |
Pfft, Monopoly. He's too good at it. No one'll play it with him. |
| high-flying-adored 06.10.2004 22:27 |
But still, it's Monopoly. I'd challenge him to a good game just so he could see how bad my banking skills are. :) And then who knows, do some karaoke and laugh my head off ... |

Awww John rules! sure when he was in Queen he never smiled thats what makes him great! I agree tho with the fact that when Freddie died Queen kinda died! However their still as big as ever! Even at the mo in my common room their playin greatest hits one! And coinsidently its another 1 bites the dust! |

Hmmmm....he's well productive, when he has seven children!!!!! ;-) |

I remember an interview with him on TV where he says he retired because Queen doesn't exists anymore without Freddie. Bye bye John(ny) and thank you for the music! |

John definitely understand that without Freddie, Queen disappear (of course not their legacy, ok?). It seems that he was/is the most moderate member of Queen; always. Look at Brian! Is he addict to fame? (I´m not saying he´s wrong but...) I think John did just the right thing to him and his family. Well done, John! ...But I´d be great if we knew more about you. |
| deleted user 07.10.2004 14:21 |
I think everybody noticed it, but on the AKOM album cover, Johnny boy's face was the most elaborately drawn. Oh John... |
| Ultimate Fan 07.10.2004 14:39 |

| mamamia 07.10.2004 15:14 |
I think he could see no future for the rest of the band when freddie died, they wouldn't have got a replacement, who would? i think it was up to him when he retired. |
| Smartie 07.10.2004 16:43 |
I think its great that Brian and Roger still are creative and are working on new Queen projects. They're not releasing any new material with a singer that replaces Freddie, because no-one can replace him. They still play those Queen numbers live we want to hear of them and btw this musical is a great idea and big success. On the other hand I also can understand why John retired. He spend most of his life working with Queen, has enough money and lots of children to care for. He never did any Solo-work apart from Immortals and always was the shy-guy. If Roger and Brian would also have retired I guess lots of Queen Fans would be disappointed. But they're still making great music and the musical for example is a big success. I'm sure there are young people who never heard about Queen, the go to the musical, are amazed and become Queen fans! And that's not because of lazy-John, its because of Brian and Roger! |
| deakys ghost 07.10.2004 17:46 |
No Freddie no Queen, lets face it "Rock You" would never have happened if Freddie was still alive and why would John want to associate himself with a (Jim Beach?) ego project which serves to keep May & Taylor in the limelight when their respective solo efforts flop? Brian & Rogers intentions are in the right place playing at such events as 46664 but lets get real they were very poor. Roger looks overweight and unfit, Brians voice is shot so why would John want to join that? I have nothing but admiration for John for showing respect to Freddie and not sullying the legendary Queen name (or is it Queen+..?). And fair enough John gets massive royalties for the use of his music but he's earned it. How much input does he really have now with projects such as "On Fire", another great Jim Beach Production. Long Live Freddie...wish you were here! |

Deaky ghost! It's impossible to thank you enough for your words! hmm... Call me naive but I simply can not believe John's abscence's got anything to do with his money or family.Don't you think HE IS too inteligent to make decision upon his will to take care of his children for the rest of his life? I think the splendid activity of Bri&Rog left him no choice.. |

I do beleive that the statement from John was that he retired when Freddie died.. |
| deleted user 08.10.2004 12:56 |
But after freddie's death, john played at last seven years for Queen. His retirement was announced in 1998 after recording no-one but you why did he do that? |
| iGSM 08.10.2004 13:06 |
25 years is a freakin' long time to be: - Touring - Producing - Playing - Fornicating - Gigging - Writing - Dodging anvils. - Practicing etc. So I think Deaky is entitled to retire. Brian and Roger on the other hand want to continue on and that is their prerogative to throw in the bass guitar, kick up his feet and watch the little Deaky's run about the place. The one thing that has interested me the most about Deaky is on the F.C.C Message where John says 'Unfortunately this tour might be our last...for a long time..' Freudian slip? Fehlleistung? Paraplaxis? I'd say so. But who knows..after the short message Freddie gave and the humourous song that Brian gave John had to say bugger all to top what the other guys had said. |
| deleted user 08.10.2004 13:43 |
I was pretty surprised by that remark also, although, it kinda lines up with Freddie's follow up at WWTLF. |
| Sieren 08.10.2004 23:27 |
I just am wondering what John is doing about AIDS. I mean is he donating money or what? |
| BackToHuman 09.10.2004 07:43 |
well, he's finally taken up wearing a condom, but that was more about stopping with the 7 little Deaky's he's already got around the house. beyond that, maybe he retired so he could spend more time in the lab, working on the cure. |
| Iriegnome 10.10.2004 11:58 |
John has been an inspiration to me since I first heard him play in 1973. When Freedie was gone, it created a hugh hole. With no more new bottom end funky line to hear, it has really left a hole. I hope that somewhere he know how much he is missed. |
| PabloArg 10.10.2004 12:35 |
Deacon is crap. John didn't retired because he thought that Queen dissappeared when Freddie died. It's known that Queen had a lot time's troubles recording the Innuendo album. And not because of Freddie illness, but of John plans to be with his family. He knew Freddie was dying, and he didn't want to accompany his effort. And he knew that it would be the last Queen album. It was just a final album recording, not worldwide tour. I hate him for that. He could have dedicated 18 instead of 17 years to the band that became him multimillionaire, And I would look at him with much more respect. |
| PabloArg 10.10.2004 13:22 |
Oh! And now that I remember the Hutton book, he didn't event talk to Freddie during his last MONTHS (not days) of life. It's a pity. After all the magic he did before 1990. |
| Lara 11.10.2004 06:00 |
eee... I truly enjoy this topic ...but I'm afraid I'm gonna ruin it with one little stupid question... I mean...Has he realy got the 7th child?Last that I've known it was number 6. Forgive my being nosy.Be nice and just answer. Thank you. |
| BackToHuman 11.10.2004 08:44 |
is it 6? good god! i didn't know -- i was just pulling numbers out of the air for comical effect. |

Was Jim Hutton telling the truth? I've never heard anyone else say that John didn't speak to Freddie in the last months... Also, I'm sure I read that John said he 'went spare' as the recording of Innuendo advanced at a snail's pace. What's wrong with him wanting to spend more time with his family, anyway? John owes no-one anything. To claim otherwise is stupid. After 20 years playing in a rock band, I'm not surprised he doesn't want to do it anymore. You know, playing the same songs over and over, night after night - what could be worse for an intelligent person? It's the definition of boredom! |

I'd think that after maaaany years of touring and all that, he could take his retirement and have a life outside of Queen. He's entitled to it by now, but complete hermitude wasn't quite what the world was looking for, I'll admit. Ah, well. Rest up, Deaky. The world's still waiting. |
| gabriel79 16.10.2004 07:18 |
john has retired because is wisest member of the band.queen is over and brian and roger are only try to make money in the name of freddie.i hate them.they can't sell with their soloworks and come back to queen |

I often think fans tend to forget about John Deacon. I know he says that he dosen't sing and rarely gives interviews, you got to think he was one of the best bass guitarist in Queen's era. |
| Bohemian Queen 14.11.2004 09:30 |
i think he was wise to retire, i mean obviously he never wanted to do music to do with roger and brian because he want ed to keep all the memories that they had as a band , i think john takes great pride in that and i can see his point of veiw, no freddie, no queen end of story!x great move john!x |

John was always the shy guy in the band - and maby the smartest, he knew that Queen has die when Freddie died.... But That's great that Brian and Roger are still playing their music and interwiew and stuff... I like that :) But I would like to hear more from John, just a little, just to be sure that he's still alive or sum :) |

John is entitled to retire when he wants. He spent many hours during Queens hey day writing and producing the records, as well as all the time touring. If I had the money John has, unless I really enjoyed every bit of my job I would also retire and enjoy life. Some people live to work (which hould be said for Brian and to a lesser extent Roger), whereas I think John worked to live (don't balm him as this is my phylosophy). |
