what is the oldest queen gig available as a bootleg?
i'm not referring to ibex or smile or any pre-queen stuff - just actual queen
i have the golders' green thing as well as bristol birmingham and oxford 73
but do the marquee or pheasantry gigs from 72 exist
Marquee 1972 exists, though the recording which currently is labelled as 20/12/1972 is actually an edit of the Oxford 1973 show. John Stuart posted some info about a rare 70's bootleg containing the genuine Marquee '72 show.
Thanks Pim. A fuller previous answer could have been found under a cursory search - Forums > Sharing The Music > *WANTED* queens first ever concert (Try punching "Queen" + "First" + "concert" into the search button at the top of the page).

Barry Mitchell does indeed own a copy - not too sure about the rest of the band. - John S. Stuart - Interview 1992.

There is NO Hangman or slow Stone Cold Crazy - this is just more innuendo that I keep squashing - but there are always those who like to believe the mythology rather than the facts.
BTW: If interested (it is illegal to sell BBC transcription discs) I will "donote" a mint copy of the album "free" - to whoever is willing to pay c£500 for my "Play the Game" 7"!!!
LOL @ the last sentence :)
Anyway, indeed the three oldest recordings are exactly as John says - from what I know, John Deacon also has a VERY old Queen live recording too but I don't remember the date and I heard he's definitely not willing to give it away so...
Full Golders Green is in the BBC archives and IF Queen Productions ever decide to release an old concert, it definitely should be this one.
John, if it's possible, could you tell me something? Was Doin' All Right performed the Smile way (with guitar doing the intro) or did they already fix a piano?
Seb: "...Was Doin' All Right performed the Smile way (with guitar doing the intro) or did they already fix a piano?"
A bit of both - no Piano on stage as yet, but certainly more "Queen" arrangement than "Smile".
Mr. Scully: "...John Deacon also has a VERY old Queen live recording too but I don't remember the date...".
Martin, do you think this could be the first half of the 9th January 1971, Ewell Technical College gig? It would be great if it was, as it would mean that the complete gig would exist in some form!

Sorry, but that was a silly thing to say. My reasoning was that if both parts of the evening were recorded over two reels then theoretically it could have been possible.
Sadly, this could not the case as one reel is owned by Barry Mitchell, and the other by John Deacon, and as we know the later replaced the former - so they cannot be from the same gig.
That's what I get for Premature excitement!!!
Brenski: "so basically the tapes aren't ever likely to be public domain?"
Mr. Scully: "John Deacon also has a VERY old Queen live recording too but... he's definitely not willing to give it away..."
John S Stuart: "Queen: Unreleased Live, Marquee, London 20th December 1972... Christie’s Pop And Guitars Auction... Lot 154 sold £2,800".
I guess that's why they are so valuable.
Brenski, as "Queen" - yes. There is earlier live stuff for both "Reaction" & "1984", but this is it for "Queen" I am afraid.
I must confess, I am very curious about the "John Deacon Tape", but I think it would be safe to assume that it would be later than the Barry Mitchell material.

Agree, that sounds likely.
Brian has a huge collection of some early stuff but I have absolutely no idea what exactly he has. Don't know if John Stuart has some info about Brian's collection? Does it include only his solo (1984) stuff or some early live Queen recordings as well?
