There's an ongoing argument (the website's below) about whether Queen is or isn't the #1 live rock act of all time. For awhile, they held the top spot, but recently, it's been a three-way tie between them, The Who, and Bruce Springsteen. Now, they're about to be bumped a few spots lower. So, bias aside, were Queen the greatest live act or does another band deserve that title? Here's the website: link |

Bob Dylan above Metallica? Geez, that's like Macy Gray singing better than Aretha Franklin. |

I'd go with The Who over Queen, if we're talking about big-name bands. At least in their heyday, until 1976, they were full of energy and tension every show, while Queen was more about the actual presentation. There's no doubting that Queen were good, putting on an excellent show every time, but I found The Who to be the best. Of course, I'm only 21, and The Who aren't what they used to be. And whoever says The Rolling Stones are the best...just, no. |

I'd go with... 1. Queen 2. Led Zeppelin 3. AC/DC 4. Aerosmith 5. Elton John / Billy Joel (touring together) 6. Metallica 7. U2 8. Pink Floyd 9. Guns N' Roses 10. Van Halen |

brenski wrote: i'd go floyd (expect a reunion next year)I seriously doubt it... Dave Gilmour recently said that it's unlikely that he will ever re-unite with Nick Mason, and Richard Wright and work on new material. Now, if you mean a reunion with Roger Waters that's just about as impossible as the original Guns N' Roses member reuniting with Axl. All Pink Floyd fans can expect for now is 'The Wall' on Broadway. |

Bruce Springsteen? C'mon, talk about bias. Mr. Born in the USA should deserve the USA list, but for the rest of the world, Queen simply dominates. it's just the American hype that propels the Boss. And that is just bullshit. This is what I think, Americans think that the world revolves around them, the rest of the world think that they are part of the community we call Earth. |

Here is my list of my favourite 10 live acts: 1. Queen 2. Jimi Hendrix 3. Pink Floyd 4. Led Zeppelin 5. Judas Priest 6. Iron Maiden 7. Deep Purple 8. Metallica 9. AC/DC 10. Black Sabbath I like The Who but I prefere other live acts even if I recognise their live impact, most of all Keith Moon drumming. I don't like that much american (with exception,of course, like Metallica,The Doors,Guns'n'Roses and other Hard'n'Heavy bands)and political acts and Bruce Springsteen falls in both categories so I easily drop he from my list.Overrated IMHO. |

Springsteen overrated ? I don't think so. His music, whatever you say about it, has meaning. The lyrics are stunning, and I can relate to more of his songs that I can do Queen's. As much as I love Queen and Freddie's stage act and presence, I think BS and the E Street Band are better live. One the biggest reasons for this is unpredictabilty- Queen were not the biggest setlist changers, Bruce is. |

Although I have to ask you this, is Van Halen still #2 in your book even with Sammy Haggar instead of David Lee Roth? |

I have not seen either Queen or Zeppelin live, but from recordings and the like, I would say they are the best two. |

One the biggest reasons for this is unpredictabilty- Queen were not the biggest setlist changers, Bruce is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To me,music is one thing, lirycs another one and the most important one is music.Freddie hated writing lirycs but wrote the better ones for me because Queen and Freddie himself speaks the universal language of feelings without any political or social meaning (maybe with few exception like Is this the world we created or There must be more to life than this). They give us full enteraining for a couple of hours and that's it.And I love this way!I don't like when a musician or a singer wants to teach me what is good or not and take a political position even if is a good one.I don't like that preacher attitude like Bono use to have for example.Springsteen is too american for my tastes.I always hated that all-star band type of music, too much "saxophonated" sound with all those keyboards in the background. When I watch on TV something like that I get bored after a while.I recognise he has good songs,of course, but for me live entertaining is another thing.Believe me or not,his music sound innocuous to my ears. Yes,Queen like another acts I love like Judas Priest doesn't do very often changes in the list during their tours. Is more a "gimme a greatest hits attitude",to give to every audience the same colluadate "product" of setlist but maybe adding little changes during the execution of those songs and for me is fine. For me,the good measure is what Queen do even nowadays, giving us their at times escapism songs in full entertaing and merry good causes like AIDS fight, the 46664 project and making real charity. To return to the topic title,no one could beat Queen live! |

Oh, a logical question...is this for live acts today, or for live acts overall? |

Bruce Springsteen a ledgend in his own mind!! Yes if you are American you will relate to his lyrics cause he writes patriotic crap! Sorry there are few artists I really dislike but Bruce is one of them! But hey I'm entitled to my opinion as you are yours! Ok I am only going to include bands I have actually seen in my list so here goes 1. Queen 2. The Damned 3. Metallica 4. U2 5. Guns And Roses 6. The Who 7. Stiff Little Fingers 8. Dire Straits 9. The Stranglers 10. Simple Minds |

Rich Tea wrote: Yes if you are American you will relate to his lyrics cause he writes patriotic crap!As far as I know, songs like 'Born In The USA' and 'Glory Days' are sarcastic outlooks on living in the Reagan era. I don't think he writes patriotic songs; he caters more to the working class mindset that everybody works for a living, which is a celebration of the American dream. Not necessarily patriotic, but most people often misinterpret the meanings of his songs. And I'm not a Springsteen fan - I don't mind him, but I don't have any of his stuff - but I do research to understand why I won't listen to an artist before drawing any conclusions. |

Fair comment if I've got it wrong, I have listened to very few of his lyrics because I don't like the way they are presented and have no interest in researching them either. I do have quite a wide taste in music which I've found getting wider as I've got older but Springsteen has never appealed but maybe one day? I used to dislike REM with the same sort of passion but I really enjoy listening to them now! Strange thing personal taste isn't it? |
