I dont know what its like where you are, but here in the UK the winter has been drawing in for the past few weeks. And almost every night when Ive arrived home from work Ive been greeted by some of the most enormous spiders Ive ever seen. The one tonight was the size of my hand. I dont usually kill them, I put a glass over them with a bit of paper and throw them into the neighbours garden, but I didnt have a glass big enough to cover this one so it ended up, squished on the bottom of my shoe. It took five hits, the bugger wouldnt die. I wouldnt mind but we've got a cat, (fudge)who just lets them run past her, she just looks at them and says "oh, I cant be bothered", yes, shes a talking cat. But the worst of it is, that Im going to go to bed tonight, worried that one of them is going to crawl into my mouth. Maybe Ill be lucky, and it'll crawl into the wifes mouth instead. I must think positively.

He's come to a sticky end
Don't think he will ever mend
Never more will he crawl 'round
He's embedded in the ground

We have huge spiders all year round in my household. My mum calls them "rhinospiders" I have seen so many different varities and sizes of spiders in my house. Every night (when ever I remember) I need to do a spider check in my bedroom before I go to bed for my own peace at mind. Cos I hate staring up at my ceiling or at the wall as I lie in bed and seeing a spider inches away from me. Usually the big ones stay away from my room though. But 2 nights ago there was a huge one near my bed that my dad never got to kill so I was worried when I went to bed. Hopefully it's long gone out of my bedroom by now. Well...this response was longer than I anticipated...
Those camel spiders have a leg span of 5 inches, which is pretty big compared to what we get here in the UK. However, to really shit your pants, you need the Goliath/Bird Eating Tarantula from Central/South America: link
These babies have a leg span of up to 11 inches!
I don't bugger about collecting spiders up and putting them outside, I don't care how good they are for the garden cos I don't have one, they just have to be killed.
Just last night, one that was in the bathroom two nights ago made an appearance running for cover in my bedroom and took refuge above my curtains. It took me a good 15-20 minutes, during which I discovered flyspray doesn't work on spiders, but I got it in the end with the good old "duster wrapped round the umbrella handle" attack.
Earlier in the year, as I got ready for work, a HUGE spider appeared on my wall and I had to be late for work rather than leave that spider to its own devices in my bedroom. I understand it was much more at home inside my vacuum cleaner!
My cousin who lives in Colombia says that once when she went to summer camp, she and her friends found this huge tarantula crawling up the ceiling inside their cabin.
Needless to say they couldn't sleep that night knowing what kind of spiders might be sneaking inside the cabin while they're asleep. The next morning they requested to have a bus taking them back home. A lot of other girls from other cabins decided to also go back after finding about they heard about the creepy tarantula.
I remember my mom mentioning to me once that she went to the same camp when she was a teenager and found this ugly ass white tarantula while walking through the woods. She says it's the ugliest thing she's ever seen.
