I have read, on this site and others, Body Language being pretty much universally trashed as Queens worst song, or Freddie worst moment, or whatever....call me (stone cold?) crazy, but this song actually kinda WORKS for me....its not one of my favorite Queen songs by a longshot (thatd be something like Liar, or The Prophet's Song) but I wouldnt say I hate it, at least..... |
Sonia Doris 30.09.2004 16:43 |
Well...it's good. I think Hot Space is on my top 20, but after the 70s stuff... |
Lester Burnham 30.09.2004 16:46 |
Worst song released by Queen, next to 'Party'. |
Plengel 30.09.2004 17:35 |
Well it seems that it is not that bad at all. It reached #4 in the Dutch Charts. |
Penis - Vagina 30.09.2004 17:49 |
It reached #11 in the U.S., but it still sucks. |
Libor2 30.09.2004 17:54 |
Yeah, well, BL isn’t any jewel in crown, but I should say, that Delilah with all that miaaauw is worse IMO. |
agneepath! 11994 30.09.2004 17:58 |
you can't really compare Delilah with Body language. Delilah was an (understandable)indulgence... whereas Body language is just awful. |
josue 14398 30.09.2004 18:02 |
It's not musically a great piece, but it works for me. It has something... I love it. |
Libor2 30.09.2004 18:19 |
I wouldn’t say any word against Delilah, if it’d be on Freddie solo CD. But it is on Queen one (and more to it, on such good as Innuendo is) and it really bothers me. No more, no less. |
deleted user 30.09.2004 18:41 |
I cannot say it is the worst, but it is a fun song, sort of like a song to be taken lightly. As Freddie said, if you don't wanna listen, then fucking go home! If you don't like Body Language, nobody forces you to! |
The King Of Rhye 30.09.2004 19:09 |
thats kinda what I think.......its a throwaway tune....nothing too consequential, but ok |

We're not all supposed to like every Queen song, and if you do, then that's unnatural and pathetic. MY opinion? 'Body Language' sucks. YOUR opinion? You like it. Life goes on. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 30.09.2004 20:05 |
I don't mind Body Language. Sure, it's not the most lyrically amazing song they've done, but it's good for what it is. |
Brimon 30.09.2004 20:13 |
Im trying to remember what I thought of this song when I first heard it. To be honest, I dont think I thought much of it, it was just ok. But I do remember wishing I could see the video for it, because it had been banned. Some 20+ years later, I eventually get to see it, and what a disapointment, not even a flash of a boob. |
deleted user 30.09.2004 20:20 |
I just like the chorus, it is kinda catchy. |
sonic killer 30.09.2004 20:49 |
i like "body language". not as much as i used to. |
nibznik 30.09.2004 21:14 |
i love Deaky's bass lines coming from a straight guy it's a pretty racy song too. ................ i like delilah and party too.......................... (DON'T SHOOT ME) |
MayFan 30.09.2004 21:15 |
I think Hot Space in general is nothing too wonderful. With the exceptions of "Las Palabras" (which is one of my all time favs), "Put Out The Fire", and "Under Pressure", I haven't listened to that album in years. Definitely my least fav album. |

nibznik wrote: i love Deaky's bass lines coming from a straight guy it's a pretty racy song too. (DON'T SHOOT ME)link Check this out. It was not John on bass, rather, Freddie. |

I was listening to the Sheer Heart Attack album today, and that song "She Makes Me" (?) came on, and there was all that syncopated heavy breathing, and it reminded me of Body Language, even though it's a rock ballad instead of a funky thing. But they're both "me me me la la la pant pant sigh." I actually prefer Body Language, but, as someone said, chacun a son gout. --Egret |
j0ck3 01.10.2004 01:18 |
It has a good beat but the lyrics kinda... sucks. Even if I like it a lot live with the drum intro and hearing Freddie and Roger sing it together |
Nikos 01.10.2004 01:44 |
The song is kinda funny and John's bass work is very good, there are worse songs like Seaside rendezvous or Party |
Regor 01.10.2004 04:21 |
Personally (as everything concerning favourite songs and stuff), in the context of Hot Space I think it works. An album always creates a certain atmosphere and overall sound, let alone due to the recording habits or the producer at the time. And even the not so good albums have their own kinda atmosphere. Thus I am not a fan of this "reworking thing", as an album compiled of songs from, say, Hot Space and AKOM just doesn't sound right... anyway, thats another thing. On Hot Space it's okay. Tissue-Song. |
Penis - Vagina 01.10.2004 04:52 |
To be fair, I will tolerate the song.. if I'm listening to the whole album or something.. and I think the video is hilariously bad so I enjoy that. But I would generally prefer not to hear the song. |
Zizzu 01.10.2004 06:54 |
Maybe BodyL is not a very "queenish" song but how it's modern! If u listen to some Minogue production (her last album is called BL) u can find the same stile. I don't like this stile in particular, but I can admit that the atmosphere is great and sexual! See the video.. |

Nikos wrote: The song is kinda funny and John's bass work is very good, there are worse songs like Seaside rendezvous or PartyI agree with the Duke, seaside rendezvous, Lazing and Sweet Lady are great songs. Songs like these really show the variance and versitility of the band, particularly in the 70s period. I don't think that ability left them, just that they had kinda done that, and went in different directions, Hot Space being the most left field example. They almost came full circle with things like Bijou and Innuendo, Slightly Mad and You Don't Fool Me is kind of like a little break to that. As others have said, YDFM is how Hot Space would have sounded if they'd done HS in 1990s. But it was done in 1980s, so that's why it sounds like it does. I was actually thinking about HS the other day and was thinking that you could happily pluck Put Out The Fire and put it on NOTW or Works and it would fit in there no problem. Action This Day could probably fit okay on The Game or (possibly) The Works, so I think in lots of ways the funky/disco element of HS hinders the more guitar based songs. |

Body Language is a good song... for me. A typical Freddie Mercury's song maybe the video isn't too good |

There would not be ANATO without Seaside Rendezvous. That is what makes it whole. |

I HATE BODY LANGUAGE. the lyrics (Screams!) the lack of guitar (Screams!) freddie in the leather (Screams!) |
Canadian May Fan 02.10.2004 09:57 |
I figure a lot of this is like that experimentation debate, should Queen have even made a record like Hot Space in the first place? Trying one's hand a different styles is one thing, but it's important to remember what an established fanbase is wanting to hear as well -- while they did seem to address this with "Las Palabras de Amor" and "Under Pressure", the rest of the album was still fairly bland pop/funk material. Anyway, if I liked funk songs more than I do, I would probably be able to at least tolerate "Body Language", but still I can see why the main reason I know about it at all is because of the video being so notorious at the time. |
deleted user 02.10.2004 11:16 |
I like the song and the video. The Hot Space album was a time of drastic change for them, I don't think anything like it led up to that... |
KJ 02.10.2004 13:30 |
Come one, Hot Space is a fine album. What about Life is real, that is a great track! And try to listen to Back Chat and Calling all girls without thinking of the horrible videos they have. I like listening to this album. |
Lester Burnham 02.10.2004 14:15 |
I like the Calling All Girls video. It's different from their normal performance videos. Back Chat...different story. |
Daburcor? 02.10.2004 14:58 |
I've always liked the song myself... |

Trisonic77 02.10.2004 18:40 |
It's not that terrible, the bass line and drums are actually pretty catchy. It would have made a good porno movie soundtrack! |
deleted user 03.10.2004 00:14 |
body language is a good song to be aroused on. |
Lester Burnham 03.10.2004 00:35 |
The bassline that John plays is decent. |
Giacco 73 03.10.2004 01:36 |
I like Body Language. Is very sinuous, catchy, and sexually explicit. And gaysh I guess.Totally Freddish!I'd rather fancy it more in a Freddie solo album like Mr.Bad Guy then in a Queen release,it would be more appropriate. It seems the other three guys have not so much to do with. It reminds me of the 1986 George Michael's song "I want your sex",very similar IMHO and in some points George sings in a way I can't tell if is he or Freddie, most of all the high falsetto parts.Sooo similar! By the way, both songs were banned by MTV.Not in Italy,a saw them on TV quite often. We don't get in trouble with sex,for sure! |

how can you claim your a queen fan and not like liar, but body language works for you? very strange, but hot isn't as bad as people say, it has it's moments. |
mike hunt 03.10.2004 09:02 |
isn't this topic kind of silly, we should be talking about all the great music they did, not picking apart their music, critics do a good enough job of that |
iGSM 03.10.2004 09:03 |
< Damn right. It is, and I'm not often mistaken, the best I've ever heard from John. |
iGSM 03.10.2004 09:03 |

Lester Burnham 03.10.2004 10:13 |
mike hunt has spoken. Frankly, I'd like to know his (her?) opinion on JOHN'S BASSLINE in Body Language. Speak, mike hunt, speak! Good hunt. I'll call you 'ke hunt for short. |

I think I love everything Queen has done...Why is Hot Space usually considered not as good by fans? And yes, it is kind of like the George Michael song. And the video reminds me of the Body Language video. They both have...*remembers random things*...lipstick! And water! And other things! haha... |
BackToHuman 04.10.2004 10:19 |
despite having read (and almost completely absorbed) Sebastian's website, and despite knowing the song was written by Freddie, and despite having read various quotes which pretty much flat out say that Freddie was the only one in the studio when the song was being recorded, i'm going to go on record, as well, and say that BL has John's best bassline. *rolling his eyes* IT WAS FREDDIE!! |
