Has anyone already seen this DVD / video?
Maybe seen it on VCD or something like that?
I hope Brian and Roger take a lot of time to remaster a lot of other old concerts like the late 70's or ... whatever... everything about Queen is great.
no it isn't...that's a fairly typical "newboid" posting...
there were some poor songs..and some poor gigs
...and definitely some below-average videos
so don't make sweeping statements like
"whatever... everything about Queen is great. "
Bought a copy fo the CD and DVD at lunchtime today.
A couple of immediate disappontments although they are "relatively" minor:
1 - Will the plugging of the WWRY musical never cease - not only do we have stickers emblazoning the front of BOTH releases, but we also have flyers inside them too.
2 - The booklets for both releases replicate each other with ALL photos - would have been interesting to have an essay on the restoring of the picture for the DVD booklet and the restoration of the sound for the CD package.
3 - The most glaring error though is a mastering error right at the beginning of disc 1, just to start things off on the right foot - the very first thing you hear is a tape slip that sounds like a screech; it lasts for about half a second, but frankly is a careless error and as *glaring* as the incorrect track marks on the original CD issues of the back catalogue or the shi*ty mastering on Queen Rocks.
That's about as far as I got (into the start of WWRY) when I had to get back to the coal-face. The audience seems to block out a lot of the high end from Brian's sound, but that will become more apparent I guess as I listen more intently at home.
I hope I am as "pleased" with the DVD as I was with Wembley, however, first impressions are usually good indicators and it hasn't started well.......
No plugging of the musical in my version which I bought at lunch yesterday (in The Netherlands).
Luckily the booklets for the DVD and CD release are the same. Saves me from buying both. As a fan I'd like to have all I can, but there is a limit of course.
The sound is really good, considering it is a concert from '82. I have only listened to it in stereo, not the 5.1 remix and up to Save me.
The sound is very clear, the video is sometimes not so good, with stripes of the flashing light staying in view long after they have gone out. But hey, the camera's used are old by nowadays standards.
Definitely worth buying and listening and viewing over and over again for the next couple of days.
I quite like the fact that they haven't tried to remove the purple streaking caused by the spotlights - it gives the film a kind of dated look, whilst still having been cleaned up and improved.
The PCM Stereo track on the film is exactly the same as used on the CD release - the tape slip at the very beginning is present on the film - haven't got anything so flashy or "ultra-moderne" as a 5:1 system.
As for the interviews, well, to me these are absolutely nothing new and certainly can't be deemed to be adding value to the package.
They surely must have been able to source something featuring John too; or, now here's a thing, did John deliberately not grant permission for interview material featuring him to be used in this release......... Seems very odd that they found material for the Wembley concert and nothing from the widely available interviews from '82 featuring him. As far as the bonus concert footage goes, I don't buy that stuff about material from '82 being hard to track down - ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS GO TO THE PRIVATE COLLECTOR'S MARKET TO DIG UP SOME GEMS. Relying on foreign TV stations to provide gold is a complete mistake.
My biggest gripe is the fact that the audience track has been mixed far too high up int he overall sound to the detriment of the music - at times, it's hard to tell whether what you are hearing is is audience sound or the high end of Brian's sound.
However, on balance, I'm stoked that we finally have the full MK show available, although it's pretty clear that not the greatest effort has been put into the overall package.
Killaqueen!!! wrote: I heard it was coming out on the 9th November but a lot of people have got it already. Here in Dublin it isn't in any of the shops but I'm keeping my eyes peeled! A lot of people have been disappointed with the DVD. Is it that bad? I thought Wembly was brilliant so do you think I'll like it?
