I am going to buy my first Queen CD soon (as I've saved up loads) so what r ur favourites? - that are still available now. Can u say anything but ones from the Platinum Collection coz I listen to my dad's version of that. I don't mind CDs that come from Freddie's Solo Collection!!!
I should start with A night at the opera
then Sheer heart atack, then Innuendo, then the rest. And if I were you, I should buy the Japanese version, those covers are really amazing (they're also called card sleeves, they are complete copies of the original record album sleeves, made of carton(?), not plastic.)
I don't mean to highjack the thread but are the Japanese imports digitally remastered? I have the US released hollywood releases and the mixing and production sounds awful. Any help or info would be appreciated, thanks.
A Night at the opera!!! You will get to know what Queen were all about in the 70's, with the very angelic chorus' and the kick ass riffs, and the thick toned and well thought out solos. Out of 10, i give it a 10. I would get this one first, then maybe The Game.
Well, if you don't have any Queen cd's, I would say to start with Greatest Hits. It has a lot of great songs on it. You could try Classic Queen too. If you have those, I would just start at the beginning with Queen, and go from there. That is what I have been doing, and it works for me!
Queen II is my favorite, but personally I'd advise a newbie to get A Night At The Opera first. It has 2 (or 3) hit singles and more musical styles than Queen II.
Boy, it would be great in a way to be able to go back and discover all these new songs as Sophia is going to! I never tire of them, but coming to them for the first time is fantastic. I'm very envious!
ANATO was my first Queen album, as well. And my second. :) (i begged and begged for the tape when BoRhap was rereleased in '91...i had friends copying Quuen records for me constantly, and i never got enough. then, it was also the first Queen CD i bought. probably my second CD ever.)
I wish ADATR had been purchased along side ANATO, but it actually wound up being the last CD i bought (and an album no-one had ever copied for me, as i knew nothing more than TYMD and STL going into it), sometime after Rocks came out -- (it was just that hard to find, and it eventually required an hour-long drive anyway).
But anyway, in my mind, you need to start with the pairs of albums (IMHO, MIH complements Innuendo as perfectly as ADATR does ANATO). so, i would say those four albums are your essentials, and after that, you can let Greatest Hits do your picking for you (find out what album your fave song came from, and pick up the whole album to listen to it in context)
Personally the first Queen album that I have listened is Innuendo.
But I think that it's better if you start with the first album:QUEEN.
In this way you're able to follow Queen evolution from the 70s to the 90s.
