While I enjoy the odd Pink Floyd tune, I just can't see them as a 'rock band'. They're in leagues of their own. Of course, I could never listen to Queen while stoned off my ass, but Pink Floyd always seems to suit the mood. |

Yeah, they are too hard to compare, but one thing that's clear is that Pink Floyd's albums were mixed and produced so much better than Queen's. I remember someone brought this issue up before and it was a good point. Queen Queen and Dark Side of the Moon were both released in 1973, but Dark Side sounds as if it was released in the last 10 years while Queen sounds as if it was recorded in the '50s through a telephone reciever. In all fairness tho I have the hollywood versions of the Queen albums which I've heard are very badly mixed. I have a few Floyd albums most of which were released before Queen's early albums and the Floyd's still sound much much better. Is there any reason why there is such a vast difference in quality? |

I'm not really warranted to say anything because I don't actively listen to Pink Floyd but I think they are tripe. |

As much as i enjoy (some) Pink Floyd, the fact that I am on a Queen board now as opposed to a Floyd one should make my preference clear. |

Speaking of Pink Floyd, has anybody heard Wyclef Jean's cover of Wish You Were Here? I was just listening to a clip of it, and it's...interesting. |

I have a few Floyd albums most of which were released before Queen's early albums and the Floyd's still sound much much better. Is there any reason why there is such a vast difference in quality? Yes, there is. Two words: Alan Parsons. To be fair, Floyd had been in the business since 1966, while Queen were quite unexperienced. |
Brianmay1975 02.09.2004 06:36 |
Well, Pink Floyd are a great band with some great albums: Atom Heart Mother, Dark Side Of The Moon or The Wall, but... my love goes entirely to Queen. Besides that, I really can't see Pink Floyd "rocking", their music is like a cold river, it flows rather than it rocks :)... Anyway, Queen are the best band ever on earth... Btw, I don't know why Wyclef Jean works so hard to compromise all the great songs in the world?! Couldn't he just have sticked to what he did to AOBTD, why does he have to destroy Wish You Were Here too?! |
Lord Blackadder 02.09.2004 07:00 |
Floyd are o.k, but Queen is Queen. Better than anybody else. The whole thing together, the songs, the albums, the members, their live playing, really can't be beat. |
BrianRules 02.09.2004 11:35 |
I agree with most people on this board. I love Pink Floyd, but I would never come away from a PF concert saying "they rocked!". Their music does flow. Being buzzed out of your mind is the best way to listen to Floyd!! But Queen always has, and always will be, THE best rock band ever, in my opinion. They jam their collective butts off!! |
Fenderek 02.09.2004 11:54 |

We always fought with my brother which band is better. I prefered Queen and he, of course, Pink Floyd. But - to be true - we always listened to both of them and to many many others. As years go by (and we’ve got older) we found there’s no need to fight what’s better. ’Cos both bands (and their music) have some cons and pros sometimes. I prefer Queen as Floyd seems a little bit academic and cold to me. But then, hey, if I’m in a mood for listening, say, Wish You Were Here, I must say it’s the real gem. But, well, in this kind of music (art rock maybe?) I like Genesis from Gabriel’s era the most. |

I'll listen to Pink Floyd now and again - my favourite song being Wish You Were Here. But Queen will never take a backseat to any other band I listen to. They've always reigned supreme and always will. My guess is, people on this QUEEN forum will vote QUEEN seeing as to how this is a QUEEN forum on QUEENzone.com :-) |

I'm probably the only person who thinks that Pink Floyd was still good after Roger Waters left. I think 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' and 'The Division Bell' are great albums, I honestly don't know what's the problem that some people have with them. What pisses me off is the way how people keep bashing David Gilmour, when it was Roger Waters the one who wanted out of the band and also retire the band completely. Then when Gilmour, Wright, and Mason decided to still go on, then Roger Water's sued them because he wanted to keep the 'Pink Floyd' name for himself. I have to admit Roger Waters is a very talented guy, but he's just an egoistical prick. |

Mr.Jingles79 wrote: I'm probably the only person who thinks that Pink Floyd was still good after Roger Waters left. You’re not the only one. I agree with you. Both ’A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ and ’The Division Bell’ are very good Floyd records (better than The Wall IMHO, which always seemed more Waters child than Pink Floyd to me). And if I remember correctly, the last LP with Roger Waters was ’The Final Cut’ (I call it The Wall II) which one was much weaker than another 2 studio albums above. I always felt Final Cut is ’Roger Waters and some band behind him called Pink Floyd’. But, despite of I wrote before, Floyd best years lie in 70’s (Wish You Were Here, Meddle, The Dark Side of the Moon) anyway. With Roger Waters. |
Carlos 04.09.2004 00:42 |
I agree with the last two posters...Roger needed to leave in order for Pink Floyd to survive and progress. As you guys said the Wall and Final Cut were pretty much Water's solo albums. Meddle, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here is the best PF era, there is then a significant drop during the Wall/Final Cut era and then another up swing during the post-Roger era, tho obviously not as good as the aforementioned Meddle, Dark Side, WYWH era. And I totally disagree with the poster who said that Roger leaving was like Queen losing Freddie. Queen pretty much died with Freddie, where as Pink Floyd had some better albums withouth Roger(Momentary Lapse of Reason and Divison Bell) then ones they had made with Roger(the Wall and Final Cut). The awesome thing about Pink Floyd is how they lost not only one good song writer but two. They soley relied on Syd Barret, their first singer and guitarist, as their songwriter. After Syd went crazy, they each had to learn to write and Roger emerged as the best and a hell of a song writer. Pink Floyd then had to endure his departure and once again survived. It would have been tough for Queen to have survived, if say, Freddie and Brian had left after Queen II. Pink Floyd definetly should be consider the most resilient band ever. |
Giacco 73 04.09.2004 03:43 |
I think Queen is the best band ever due to the combination and the alchemy of four wonderfully skilled musicians, composers and singers(well,3 of them).Always recognisable in the majestic guitar orchestration of Brian, the intriguing bass lines of John and the fast, solid and very Rock drumming of Roger.Adding the fact that Freddie alone stands up everyone else in Rock'n'Roll history for his vocal delivery, stage presence and writing abilities.I rate him 10/10 in all these fields. The most important thing is that you never get bored to listen to Queen fot their vast and varius repertoire which leads you to new, unexpected, differents and outregeous musical territories. And for the voice of Freddie,of course!A thing that I always love is that they are open minded, musically and not,auto-ironic (mostly Freddie)which is the first symptom of being intelligent and non-political,which dosn't mean not fight for good social causes(AIDS in primis).Afer all,it's only mucic and bloody records,to quote Freddie and they made music in a universal language simply touchig people hearts and souls. Is for this that I don't get mad for acts like Bruce Springsteen or U2.I love some of their songs but the political side of music is not my cup of tea.On the other hand,I always loved Pink Floyd but with a total different approach.I listen to them with mind, not haert.Nowadays I don't listen to them all the days(Queen Yes!)They had 2 co-leaders,Waters and Gilmour,an underrated keybordist,Wright, and a quite experimental drummer,in his heydays,Mason. And previuos,a total visionary and out of control leader, guitarist, singer but mostly lirycist,Syd Barret.Waters also is a great lirycist and a good musician,Gilmour is a guitar maestro with a unique touch. With one guitar note he brigs you to another world. While there was a good combination and balance of their attitudes, mostly during the 70's,they did music masterpieces one over another. When their egoes rivalled and prevalled upon their music, the magic faded out and Waters quit.I loved the post-Waters Floyd releases because for me first come the music, then lirics.I'm not interested that much in being mad whith hidden messages,or political statements which sound very dated to time(take the case of Simple Minds with the musically wonderful song "Set Mandela free".How can you sing it now when He is free since 1990 circa?).I hope that Gimmour, like Waters, has the will to carry on and still bring the name, sound and music of Pink Floyd in these unculturated times, musically(sadly not only)speaking.Years ago,i gave my contribution on the creation of a Internet-leader italian site, writing the History section.Feel free to visit this site: link It is very appreciated by the fans and is a Riferimento(I don't know the english word for this!)for the Italian Pink Floyd tribute bands. Ok,I've been far too much long and this is only my second post.Sorry if I bored you! KYA |

queen or what? queen or what? what a stupid topic, pink floyd sucks!!! and don't talk about them on this QUEEN site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Sonja 04.09.2004 03:49 |
What's the problem about this question? Who said that, just because this is a Queen site, all the people here must think that there's nothing above Queen? You can love Queen but still have another favourite band. Anyway... a lot of the music my mum likes grew on me while growing up with it. But Pink Floyd never did, except for "Wish You Were Here" and "Learning To Fly" which are great songs, but other than that I've never really liked Pink Floyd. There are worse bands, but there certainly are loads of better ones. Whereas Queen had a huge impact... obviously. |
Wouter 04.09.2004 18:15 |
They're quite impossible to compare: Queen is a band who puts the songs in the first place, and just with a couple of albums there's a sort of general concept which keeps the songs together. It amounted to some great songs, whereas there are (I think) terrible songs on almost every album, which don't fit in at all. Pink Floyd, on the other hand, makes concept albums, where the total is more important than the individual songs. Hardly strange that they didn't release much singles. I prefer Queen most of the times, but it just depends on my mood. BTW: I think The Final Cut is better than The Wall. |
Libor2 04.09.2004 20:26 |

I understood you well (and I’m definitely not the only one) so there’s no need to repeat it. I know this is Queen fans site, but I don’t know why Queen fans should be so narrow minded to speak only and only about Queen. - I’ve found the only one thing you complain of is the (not well suited) name of this topic. If it’d be ’What do you think about PF’ it’d be all OK for you. And not quite precise name of topic started flood of your post full of shits, assholes, newbies etc. bla-bla-bla etc. I’d tell you something: if you don’t know anything about what people talk here (ie. DAJA wrote: Oh and by the way if you read some other topics, about wich music people on the board liked you could have read that I like mutch more music then only Queen like David Bowie, U2, The Stones, Deep Purple, John Lennon (And you said you knew what was going on)Sorry, but I don’t search for your topics or posts as you usually have nothing interesting what to say.
