I was 13 and lived in Mississauga (just west of Toronto). My favorite band was coming to town and my uncle got me a ticket to go with him. The ticket cost 13.50 cdn tax and service charges included.
We had front row reds facing the stage(we were at the far end of the arena). Billy Squire opened for him fueling the possibility of him joining the boys.
It didn't happen but Freddie introduced us to the new keyboard player who got a huge pop from the crowd when Freddie announced him as being from Toronto. I'm sure he was joking.
I remember being totally blown away by the lights and sound. I was really pleased that the Hot Space songs were a little heavier than on the album. However I was a little disappointed I didn't get to hear "Ogre Battle" or anything else from the first two albums. Or that the show wasn't twice as long. But I couldnt complain. The band came out and rocked the crowd hard with non stop hit after hit. Everybody stood the whole time. It did make me a fan of "Dragon Attack" a song from The Game that I had previously hated. They played for about 90 minutes I think before leaving the stage. I felt incredibly awed by the fact that I had been in the same buiding as that great band.
They played 2 shows there that year their last in Toronto.
Sorry for the crappy review ... I may do better with time to think! lol
And it goes without saying that I would love to own copies of both Toronto shows from August 82!
Hey, that's a pretty good review! Have you got the recording of this show? A better one has come out lately, and it's a lot more listenable.
"Everybody stood the whole time."
Funny, I've heard the exact opposite from two other people who attended the show.
