When did you noticed freddie was Gay and did it infect your love for Queen |
Gunpowder Gelatine 28.08.2004 20:15 |
I became a Queen fan after Freddie's death, but his sexuality never affected my love for the band. Personally, I don't think being gay or not changes their music. |
Penis - Vagina 28.08.2004 20:20 |
Never really noticed until I joined Queenzone. |
Kikyo 28.08.2004 20:20 |
Welcome to the QZ! I hope you will love it here!:) As for Freddie being gay,it has never effected my love for Queen. Love Kikyo |
rmtfictionqueen 28.08.2004 21:57 |
I knew he was gay since I first became a fan and that never changed my thoughts about the band or him. I guess it never bugged me cause I was used to it cause I have an uncle that is gay as well. |
Sonja 28.08.2004 22:15 |
I knew he was gay when I started listening to Queen his sexuality was never an issue to me. He was a great musician with a brilliant voice and his sexuality did never have anything to do with it. |
Albyboy 28.08.2004 22:40 |
Since I had some close friends who were gay, I never felt Freddie's homosexuality as a problem for me listening to Queen music.. And since I had to love their music and not their bodies phisically, I can't see how Freddie's homosexuality could have influenced my behaviour... It's private life, not my business... Albyboy |

Zander05 28.08.2004 22:58 |
it is an issue for some people - but it never was for me. My dad tried to explain that to me when I was 12 "you see... Freddie had... special friends" "Yeah dad, he was gay. So what?" It's never been an issue. All it did was fascinate me more so and because of his sexuality, I've been able to figure things out for myself. Freddie is first and foremost a musician here at QZ and a person's personal life and orientation shouldn't matter in the world of music. |
joeyjojo 28.08.2004 22:59 |
" When did you noticed freddie was Gay and did it infect your love for Queen " Umm...FYI, homosexuality isn't an infectious disease. |
Goo 28.08.2004 23:27 |
I think she meant "affect". I found out a few months after I started listening to Queen, but it didn't surprise me much. I never really cared, to be honest. |
lottie88 29.08.2004 00:00 |
I knew from the beginning, and my opinion is the same now as it was then: I don't give a rat's ass. |
Pim Derks 29.08.2004 04:30 |
I knew there was 'something' with Freddie when I became a fan at the age of 7, but I didn't find out WHAT it was until I was a bit older... Never really had any effect on me or my being a fan. |
Mayboy 29.08.2004 06:52 |
Didnt bother me in the slightest, its the music that counts at the end of the day :) I didnt think he was straight away to be honest, but when i found out it made no difference |
Brianmay1975 29.08.2004 11:58 |
Well, to be honest, when I first saw some of Queen's videos (I was 15 yrs old), I thought there was something special with the lead singer and I suspected he was gay. At that time, I hated them, I dunno why, I was thinking they were the crappiest band in the world (it had nothing to do with the gay issue)... and a month later, I was totally hooked while listening to my dad's ANATO vynil. I fell desperately in love with them and didn't give a damn if he was gay or not, however I found out he was homosexual after a few weeks and it didn't affect my love at all. Before loving Queen, I must admitt I wasn't too keen on gay people (don't kill me, please). Afterwards... I dunno, I just found they're humans too. And when some stupid people I knew began to call Freddie names because he was gay, I just loved him more and more and never got ashamed of my fav singer. |
Music Man 29.08.2004 16:16 |
Yeah, those Queens. After hearing they were all gay, I immediately burned my entire library of Queen albums and collectibles. |
KillerQueen840 29.08.2004 17:30 |
I didn't know Freddie was gay 'til 3 or 4 years ago when my mum told me. How ever it had abosolutely no impact on how much I liked them whatsoever. As a matter of fact for some reason after that year I just started to apreaciate them more and more... |
John S Stuart 29.08.2004 19:04 |
Why is it that every so often, along comes a topic which refers to Freddie's sexuality? Personally I think Freddie was more than the sum of his genitalia, and I don't give a fig about whether he was straight, bi,tri or lie? When listening to the music - is that all you really care about? I remember being at a friend's wedding, and on the bridal table was a magnificent wedding cake - and someone had to remark that the baker was gay. Well so what? Apart from washing his hands afterwards (which even straight people should do) what the F*CK difference does it make to the cake? And whilst I am on the subject, why is it assumed that because I like Queen music - I must be gay too? |
bvsfan1 29.08.2004 19:05 |
I suspected that he was gay when I read that he died of AIDS. I asked my mom and she said that he was. But of course his sexuality didn't effect my love for queen at all. |
joeyjojo 29.08.2004 22:00 |
"And whilst I am on the subject, why is it assumed that because I like Queen music - I must be gay too?" Because, quite simply, people are stupid. |
syncursor 29.08.2004 22:13 |
People had always said Freddie was gay but I never really knew until he died. When I found out I wasn't that surprised and it didn't change my view on the band. In fact, I'm glad Freddie was gay because it made him the entertainer that he was. The rest of the band weren't as outrageous as he was so his closet homosexuality (at least to the public eye) helped push forth the outlandish costumes and video ideas. Remember how straight-forward and, dare I say, dull :( the videos were in the 70's. Freddie wouldn't have been as cool if he was straight. |
Queenrocks4579 30.08.2004 00:12 |
When i first started liking queen by dad told me he was gay. But when i saw him in concert and heard him sing i didnt believe it. Because in the 70s he didnt seem gay at all. He may have been camp but he didnt seem gay. Then i realized he definetly was fully sure of his sexuality in the 80s. It had never affected my love for queen. Some of my favorite bands are the least gay and i love eminem but i am in no way homophobic and queen is not at all a gay band their lead singer is just gay. |
felix ibex 30.08.2004 01:43 |
As soon as I saw Freddie I knew he was Special and I knew I wasn't alone! |
Óli Gneisti Sóleyjarson 30.08.2004 19:20 |
I was twelve when I began listening to Queen and then some schollmates of mine said that they were all gay and so forth (later I found out that it was only Freddie). I just decided that I didn't care. And then Freddie died and people became more annoying and I ended up fighting (verbally) with everyone who said that homosexuality was somehow bad. Freddie made me anti-homophobic. |
YourValentine 31.08.2004 06:01 |
I found out that Freddie was gay when he stopped using nail lack and I needed years of therapy to get over it.. |
Daragon 31.08.2004 07:33 |
Freddie is GAY????????? Must ... burn ... everything! |
BrianRules 31.08.2004 10:52 |
I've been a huge Queen fan since 1974, and I guess I found out around 1980. I hate to admit it, but if I had known someone in the band was gay, I probably wouldn't have even listened to them. It was a homophobic thing I used to have, but I've gotten over it! I figure people's sexual preferences are their own business. Freddie's the best at what he did, and it has nothing to do with being gay or straight. All I know is, thank goodness I found them!!! |
Fenderek 31.08.2004 12:44 |
Monday morning, when eating Kellogs... Almost choked to death... I wanted to burn my entire collection but in the anger couldn't find matches... Then went to a 3-year therapy trying to figure out if by listening to his music I'm gay as well... After I finished my therapy I joined queenzone and posted topic "was freddie really gay" and was bashed by everyone on the board, so I needed another year of therapy to get over it... I'm fine now and so is my boyfriend... ;) PS "I'm not gay!!!" *trying to immitate Mr Garrison's (South Park) voice* |

I am not a fan for so long... but I knew that Freddie was gay right from the start.... and I don't give a shit... They're good and that's what's important... I even feel like defending gays sometimes... just because Freddie was.... |
MexQueenFM 31.08.2004 13:20 |
i noticed when he said "i'm gay as a daffodil" or something to that effect, he was indeed a very happy man |
cliveh 31.08.2004 13:53 |
I dont see how his sexuality has anything to do with his music at all at the end of the day his was somthing very special and the fact that he was gay was just a part of his privet life, he still would write his music regardless. |
Freddie_slave 31.08.2004 14:02 |
agree! |
jasen101 31.08.2004 19:29 |
freddie wasn't gay...he just liked men. |
daniboy 31.08.2004 19:44 |
Not at all..... a big part of freddie was his open sexuality... thats a big part of his unique personality... |
joeyjojo 31.08.2004 20:21 |
Most rock stars are open with their sexuality. It kind of comes with the turf. |

One's sexual orientation has never nor never will ever make a difference. Yet there are people that always have and always will pretend that it is an important issue. |
Sonja 31.08.2004 22:03 |
To be honest, when I became a Queen fan I was 10 and I first thought ALL of them were gay because of the name of the band. |
MetzgerR 31.08.2004 22:48 |
I feel slightly stupid making any comment whatsoever, having only heard a few instrumental arrangements of their songs, but why do people insist on characterizing others based on sexual preferences? There is so much more to a person than that one small piece! And why would the knowledge that someone is gay have any impact whatsoever - I thought it was the music that attracted people... |

"Why do people insist on characterizing others based on sexual preferences?" Cos they're stupid, that's why! Unfortunately, there are lots of people who think that way and don't want to listen to Queen, Elton John or George Michael, cos they're gay! The lack of culture and education drives them to judge the quality of the music by the artist's sexual preferences, I think... Btw, welcome to Queenzone, MetzgerR, have a good time and don't be embarassed anymore: one day, you'll certainly become a Deity on this board! As someone here said before, a newbie with quality posts is a thousand times better than a deity with tons of idiot posts (no offence to the nice dities on here - twas just an example)... |

Really you couldnt really tell freddie was gay until the 80s. It never really occured to me until i saw the video collections and saw how uncomfortable he looked with the women dancing around him. I mean he was really sexy and i had always thought he was bi at the most. And who cares good music is good music and we shouldnt classify people. The only reason anyone should ever care about his gayness is to understand the love songs he wrote more. I mean not many of his songs really seemed like they were about men though except maybe its a hard life and my good old fashioned lover boy. |
Nicoletta 07.09.2004 09:38 |
I knew that Freddie was gay after months but I had the confirmation reading Jim's and Phoebe's books. For me it's not a real problem that could influence my love for Queen,I always think that Freddie was very very sexy even if gay. |

Queenrocks4579 wrote: Really you couldnt really tell freddie was gay until the 80s.Yeah, you couldn't really tell, but in the 70s he looked sometimes so female (long hair, nail polish, makeup)... I dunno, but sometimes his looks could make you wonder whether he was straight or gay. Perhaps he hadn't the standard clone look, but he seemed very passive and that made him quite gay... |

Gays r the best sort of people, when i found out he was gay i loved him even more (although i sort of already knew he was gay before i was told) ;-)! |
Zander05 13.09.2004 22:58 |
I should add, having responded to this topic some time before, that for me to not like Queen or Freddie just because he's gay would make me quite the hypocrite (sp?). A) I am a gay rights activist B) For now, I fall under the L and T (FTM) in GLBT and C) Sexuality is NOT a preference (I hate it when people call it that)! |

FTM? Really? I've been considering this with some degree of seriousness, as a far off "maybe". Do you think you could email me? I'd like someone to talk to about this. elwhis@yahoo.co.uk Thanks! Though, for now, I'm settling for being a perverted lesbian transvestite. -Amethyst |

I believe you mean 'Drag King' instead of 'lesbian transvestite' :-) |

i love queen i love freddie personaly..i thought that his gayness was attractive i mean...i like it when a guy isnt ashamed to dress up the way he wants to its a turn on for me even if roger, brian, or even john turned gay..they would still be my musical heros i would say that freddies gayness made his stage pressence. he's still my hero..rocking in heaven his gayness never made me like queen less..it made me love queen more. |
chancelloramethyst 15.09.2004 23:41 |
Drag King, lesbian transvestite...meh. It's all wearing men's clothes, isn't it? I like that Drag King show thing they've got going around, male impersonators. I've got my own little own going..okay, okay, it's just me and a piano in a funky outfit doing Elton John tunes in a chest voice, but it's close enough. I'm only his PHYSICAL OPPOSITE. Gah. Small men are so cute, I wish I was a small man. Gah. Ah well, Drag King it is, then. -Amethyst |
