To avoid any more comments: Queen II - I think - is the best album of Queen. What do you think? |
iGSM 27.08.2004 09:54 |
Uh..yes? |
Sonia Doris 27.08.2004 09:56 |
Well... it's not a stupid question. In fact it's not a question at all. Great album...great conversations... Just opening up a subject... |

And another reason why I don't like newbies. Opening TWO topics with an empty opening. |

The first two Queen albums are fun when you're like 10 years old. All this talk of rats, kings, queens, fairy fellows, ogres. And I remember thinking March of the Black Queen was about ants. |
Albyboy 27.08.2004 10:40 |
Yeah, maybe, but if you try to leave the lyric rubject apart for a little while, you'll see that there is a freshness, a strenght an impact coming out of every single track on these albums that even Queen have hardly been able to re-create in their following albums... ... Apart from that, my favourite one is A Day at the Races. And you, OGRES, CANNIBALS, FROGS, don't be unkind with ladies!!!! Albyboy |

I should clarify.. I was just stating how I felt about it when I first heard these early Queen albums when I was 10/11. I loved the music and the pictures they painted in my mind.. even if they were the result of my confused and immature little head :) I still love Queen II. In fact it ranks right up there in the top 15 studio albums of Queen for me. ;) No, really I love it.. just wanted to clarify that I wasn't stating that it was silly in any way.. that's just the way I saw it way back then. |
Albyboy 27.08.2004 12:55 |
Good point, Whirled Peas, I thought you meant something like that... This is a point I've missed: in fact, when I was 10/11, I wasn't able to understand lyrics at the first strike (English is not my native language, as you should have understood ;=)) and I was just listening to music like a cow, without catching the meaning... It was when I started learning English that everything became clearer in my mind, but I was already too grown up to take those songs as simple fairytales... I suddendly tried to read between the lines and so I can't share these "nostalgic" feelings with anyone of you... Anyway, it is clear that Queen's songwriting, under the lyrics point of view, has changed a bit during the years (I would have been really astonished otherwise!!!) Ciao Albyboy |

You haven't heard Queen II until you've heard the full version of it. 13 tracks, not 11! |

I love Queen II, although I didn't care for it the first time I heard it, but it grew on me. It definitely deserves the praise it receives. |

Queen2 is awesome and I love it, but I would choose SHA as the best. |
jericho05 27.08.2004 17:12 |
Queen II is still one of my favorite albums of all time by ANY artist. |
Goo 28.08.2004 13:54 |
I'm not sure if I'd agree if it's the BEST out of all the albums, but it certainly is an excellent group of songs, and I love the way it's put together! The way some of the songs flow into each other . . . the overall structure of the album is amazing. |

Queen II is amongst my favourite Queen albums. 'Cus I'm a bit of a Queenfan cliché. But... indeed, it owns. For the most part. Some of the White side is dullness, but I feel that's pretty much compensated for by the rest of the album. |
SergeantPepperDG 28.08.2004 23:21 |
When I bought Queen II, I listened to "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" and "Nevermore" CONSTANTLY. I get shivers when he sings "...when you say you didn't love me anymore..." near the end of the song. |

I love Nevermore. That, Dear Friends, Misfire and Lily Of The Valley are the short, sweet (not to mention, underrated) masterpieces. :) |

Yes yes yes Queen II IS the best Queen album (or just best album - goes without saying any Queen album is better than anyone else's)and the rest of the albums are all a close joint 2nd. there you go argument setteled once and for all.......(maybe) |
twowaymirrormountain 29.08.2004 07:49 |
Yeah, this is probably my favorite album by them. Side 2(black side) is especially good. Ditto to what the folks said about that line toward the end of Nevermore. I've recently been eyeing bootleg dvd's and was wondering if anyone knows which ones have the best versions of Queen II material. I have the 1974 Rainbow dvd and there is some good stuff there, but I am hoping that a full version of Black Queen exists. |
Jean Luc 2000 29.08.2004 08:34 |
Most people hear believe March of The Black Queen to be the best song on the album but for me it has to be farther to Son. The song is very touching great guitar work by Brian and of course first rate harmonies. Also the way song Procession follows onto Farther to Son is in geniuses as well. My favourite line has to be “you don’t hear a single word I say, but my letter to you will stand by your side”. |

Too bad for you, there's no complete version, they only played it as a part of a medley. It's too difficult, too many harmonics, a great song though. |
Matti 29.08.2004 12:43 |
Funny How Love Is is a cute one. Oh! But what am I saying? The whole album is great! Tomorrow comes, tomorrow brings.... |
Elvismaras 29.08.2004 18:24 |
In my opinion Queen II is one of the greatest Queen album. I like "Ogre Battle" and "March of the Black Queen"! "White Queen", "The Fairy Feller's Master - Stroke" and "Nevermore" are beautiful! This album is very very good! |
Queenrocks4579 30.08.2004 00:07 |
Queen 2 is by far the best queen album or album ive ever heard. Its very heavy and i think its the album that most represents queen. You'd be a fool to not love it. |
BrianRules 30.08.2004 09:05 |
Queen II is definitely my favorite album. The way Ogre Battle goes into Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, and into Nevermore was pure genius!! March Of The Black Queen is another genius bit of work. The only song that I think drags on is Funny How Love Is, which I think just keeps repeating itself, until it gets boring. But as soon as Seven Seas Of Rhye kicks in, I'm not bored anymore!! |
Giacco 73 18.09.2004 07:27 |
For me,Queen II paved the road for the greatest album ever,A Night at the Opera. |

"I love Queen II, although I didn't care for it the first time I heard it, but it grew on me. It definitely deserves the praise it receives" I agree 110%! I especially love 'The Fairy Fellers Master Stroke', 'Ogre Battle', 'Seven Seas of Rhye', 'Procession' and 'Father To Son', great stuff! |
LiveAidQueen 18.09.2004 09:09 |

Lot of Queen’s fans love it. I’m another one. And don’t forget amazing LP cover. If you open it there’s also black and white side. Very clever done. |
Matti 18.09.2004 21:42 |
I love everything on that album! One of the best. I especially love in Ogre Battle: "Ogre battle lives forever more!" Oh gosh........ |
MetzgerR 18.09.2004 21:53 |
It's funny...when I first heard about Queen II, it was because my friend, having wanted to buy it for quite some time, was very 'disappointed' by it - and couldn't stand it. Now that I've had a chance to listen to it all the way through, I absolutely adore it! Ja ne! |

II is amazing, breathtaking, and leaves you totally exhausted after the last bars of SSOR - it's a big piece of cake ! So full of ideas, they were bathing in creativity ! It seems they never thought about an idea twice, they just put in everything ! A tour de force of musical craftsmanship, thrilling to this very day, you will always find something new hidden in this multitrack-orgy ! I love it ! For me it stands on its own, Queen flexing their muscles ! A catalyst for things to come, that outbreak of sheer opulence really was the ground their next masterpieces up until NOTW were planted on. |
Zizzu 27.09.2004 06:58 |
How can we compare Queen II (1974) with Innuendo (1991) for example. They are two differnt stiles. I'm agree if u say that Queen II is the best album of the Queen first-production, even if the album is quite "unbalanced"...try to listen to it with this tracklist: Procession - FatherTS - WhiteQ - SomedayOD - Prophet song - OgreB - FairyFMS - Nevermore - MarchOTBQ |
iljaiya 27.09.2004 11:19 |
And then add Flick Of The Wrist because otherwise March Of The Black Queen would end to abrupt. If you stick FOTW to it, the transition will be fluently (trust me I always combine them this way). |
