A college course where the curriculum is Queen concerts? Interesting... |

There was a "Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday" benefit concert in 1988 which might be iteresting to include? Surprisingly Queen didn't play (might have had something to do with them being blacklisted for Sun playing City in '84 though I suppose!). See: link for a report on it. |

Regarding Live Aid, it really touched the hearts and minds of the public in general with the plight of all those people suffering from starvation and the like who needed our help. Hello all! I know it's been a while, but I had to make changes and corrections and drafts and stuff, but now I finally handed ni my seminar and got it back. My lecturer thuoght it was very nice "overall", and gave me a 90 (that's very good, in case you were wondering, apparently i'm 2nd in the class). Anyway, here are the results I promised you. I will also post them in the forums. Thanks again, very much! Tal Results: AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa is more than an issue – it’s a disaster. Until a curing treatment is found, action must be taken at two fronts: prevention and treatment, treatment is highly expensive, much too expensive for countries which are most effected by the disease. Therefore, most efforts are concentrated on prevention. There is room enough for any awareness and prevention campaigns. Inter-personal (face to face) campaigns are the most effective, but they’re very expensive and cannot reach any unique populations (such as immigrants or sex workers). Communication campaigns reach a bigger population but are not as effective. Yet repeating campaigns might produce accumulating results far greater than the result of any single campaign. Over years, they might bring a lasting improvement (no one checked if they do, as far as I know). Charity concerts are an effective method to raise awareness and money and change opinions, but are not effective as a mean of prevention. They are successful mainly in the developed world. A good after-concert plan is a condition for long-term effect. It needs to consist of a place for people to go and give their time and money for the newly found cause. Program, which combine both social marketing with the entertainment-education strategies, are proven the most successful. The concerts consist of these two. Although, the entertainment factor (songs) if separate from the education factor (speeches, advertisements). But the two are combined, so it can be called an entertainment-education project. Another factor of the concerts’ success is the performers’ credibility, as people who genuinely care about the subject and are not just “in it for the publicity”. That credibility as a very important factor. Well-planned concerts, fitted to their target audience, have been proven very successful. They have managed to change public opinion and raise a lot of money in the US and Europe, and have also been able to bridge over cultural differences and reach an enormous crowd in a very short time. In the interviews, I have discovered that most of the interviewees planned to watch the concerts, but only a few of them planned to watch any other awareness program. Therefore, concerts have a large and stable exposure potential, much larger than the average campaign. Most of the interviewees have heard of the concerts in advance. Most of them planned to watch. All interviewees said that the concerts have effected them at least slightly in terms of awareness and support, and most of them states that they think it had effected on the target audience in general. Most interviewees said the most important effect was raising awareness and raising money for organizations dealing with the issues. Most of them thought Live aid was the most successful, as it was the one which got the most attention and had more artists involved, and also as it was the one that emphasized the issue it was dealing most. All interviewees enjoyed the concerts very much. In that particular question (question 9), the Tribute concert and Live Aid got “good” or “very good” in each clause, and in 46664 the marks were only slightly lower, and in the open question complaints have been made about the choice of artists, saying it was inconsistent with the media’s coverage policy and that there weren’t enough world-class artists. Less than half the interviewees were exposed to other awareness programs, and only a quarter had planned to watch them (most of the intervi |
