Queen had tons of wonderful songs, but it seems some of the best were under-rated. My favourite under-rated songs would have to be Dear Friends and My melacholy blues. Post yours, then the most voted upon will go on the the finals to see the most under-rated Queen song, and we'll give that the credit it should of always had. |
Pim Derks 22.08.2004 18:22 |
I'm always surprised to see tracks like All God's People mentioned in "Tracks I don't like"-kinda topics. |
Sebastian 22.08.2004 18:27 |
imo, In The Lap Of The Gods |
Gunpowder Gelatine 22.08.2004 18:53 |
Dead On Time, In The Lap Of The Gods, White Man, Dreamer's Ball, Flick Of The Wrist, Some Day One Day, Millionaire Waltz, Back Chat, Jealousy, It's Late, etc. There are so many songs that don't get the attention they deserve, some that really should get more recognition. |
Koolkikiland 22.08.2004 19:05 |
There's one that was released in early '77 here in the US, not long after BoRhap and Best Friend written by Brian May that FAILED to even chart in the US - which always dumbfounded me because it's a stunning and brilliant piece of 70's pop/rock. Every bit as perfectly written pop as Best Friend and, judging from Brian comments in an interview, one he was especially proud of. . . and that song was Long Away. And it wasn't a hit or even released as a single anywhere else in the world! WHY?!! A real shame. |

The most underrated Queen related song is God is Heavy. I have never heard better use of sniffles in a song! Seriously though, Flick of the Wrist and Dead on Time are my favorite unheralded gems. |
Maz 22.08.2004 23:24 |
Dead on Time |
syncursor 23.08.2004 04:05 |
The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. Never played live and I've never even heard them talk about it. When I listen to this song I can't help but imagine how difficult it would have been to record, especially so early in their career. A very impressive song showing many of Freddie's vocal and songwriting strengths. |
Sebastian 23.08.2004 05:20 |
I don't think Black Queen is underrated. In the "rock world" it is unknown, but the ones who do know it, most likely love it. I think that this song is the main reason for the second album being so loved. As for Masterstroke - There are comments by all of them in my website. I like the Brian one - "all the elements people loved in Bohemian Rhapsody were already there" or something to that effect |
sexmachine 23.08.2004 05:46 |
i love "someday oneday",it´s a real dreamy hippie-song with brians beautiful guitar and voice. and i think it is really underrated because no one of you mentioned it. |

WHITE MAN- one of the best rock tracks EVER, IMO IT'S LATE- same... THE PROPHET'S SONG- loved by fans, but the general audience doesn't even know it... YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY- same as "Prophet's Song" DEATH ON TWO LEGS- should be a single WAS IT ALL WORTH IT- on eof the best riffs i've ever heard! |
kurgan21 23.08.2004 09:54 |
I beleive 2 songs 1 being Fairy Fellers master stroke (did they ever play that live???). The other being Calling All girls cause it was written by Roger ....... nuff said! |
BrianRules 23.08.2004 12:15 |
Great King Rat!!!! Perhaps THE best song ever, IMHO! |
Queenette=1 23.08.2004 14:53 |
In my opinion, every song Queen produced was under-rated! Queen is the best band in the world! Even the Universe! |
BornToBeKings 23.08.2004 15:26 |
Dead on Time, Staying Power, The Millionaire Waltz, and Keep Passing the Open Windows need more love. |
Danny 23.08.2004 15:54 |
I like You and I written by John. It´s very nice song. I think it was good for single release. But... And of course I like Nevermore, Flick of the wrist, More of that jazz, Machines, Hijack my heart, Don´t try so hard... |
RedSpecial227 23.08.2004 20:40 |
"eep yourself alive" was under-rated. For the first song from a band, that is an awesome song but missed charts completely. But it is still a wonderful songs with a powerful sound by Freddie. Just like in "It's Late" also written by Brian it has Freddie give his all, I he hits like a high C or C# which for any guy is amazing! |
Monte: Liquorice Years 24.08.2004 04:47 |
im in love with my car drowse (massive taylor fan) my fairy king sail away sweet sister and lots more, but im too lazy to think of them! |
Rick 24.08.2004 05:16 |
As Danny said, You and I is very underrated, it such a nice song. Sail Away Sweet Sister is also underrated, I've heard they played it live once, can anyone tell when? |
Sebastian 24.08.2004 09:32 |
It wasn't played live by Queen, only by Brian |
daniboy 24.08.2004 11:51 |
i think one of the most under-rated songs is "dont try so hard"-one of freddies last songs-it combines a lot of what left from his soul and very touchy voice. also jealousy is, i think, one that didnt got what it deserved. |
Krizzy 24.08.2004 12:23 |
This one has influenced a lot of bands way ahead of its time, from News of the World: Fight From The Inside Words and music by Roger Taylor Hey you boy hey you hey you boy Think that you know what you're doing? You think you're gonna set things to rights You're just another picture on a teenage wall You're just another sucker ready for a fall You gonna fight from the inside Attack from the rear Fight from the inside You can't win with your hands tied Fight from the inside Fight from the inside Right down the line Hey you boy hey you hey you boy Think that you know what you're doing? You think that out in the streets is all true You're just another money spinner tool You're just another fool You gotta fight from the inside Attack from the rear Fight from the inside You can't win with your hands tied Fight from the inside Fight from the inside Right down the line I think Roger's songs are often overlooked. His solo work on the first two albums were really outstanding especially Strange Frontier. I hope as time goes on he will be more appreciated by Queen fans and others. Kriz ;o) |
mystic_rhythms 24.08.2004 13:25 |
Oh, man, Fight From The Inside is definitely an under-rated Queen song. It was also pretty complex for its time ('77). Anyway, my picks for under-rated Queen songs: Keep Yourself Alive Death On Two Legs (dedicated to...) I'm In Love With My Car Fight From The Inside Sheer Heart Attack Dragon Attack Action This Day Back Chat Tear It Up Princes Of The Universe (should have been at least #3 on the charts) Hang On In There All God's People The Hitman Heaven For Everyone And my top pick for most under-rated Queen song is...Fun It. Why? Well, it has a really good beat, sung by Roger and Freddie, and should have been a really good song, probably making it Top 20, or even Top 10. there's my picks, I know one of them will be voted as the most under-rated Queen song, but I don't know which one...? |
Rogersababe 24.08.2004 15:00 |
Keep yourself Alive Long Away(my mums favorite) Drowse Someday Oneday Ogre Battle Loser in the End She makes me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos) Funny how Love is All Brilliant, and under rated "Arts with a capitol F" - Roger |

It's a beautiful day is used for a seal reception centre commercial in Holland. This commercial has been on TV since April 3th 2000. You can watch it here: link |
muttley15 24.08.2004 15:50 |
Obviously my favourite is Nevermore, however, don't laugh, but I really love A Human Body - another Roger track that seems to go un-noticed. |
muttley15 24.08.2004 15:54 |
...also Keep passing the open windows is just fantastic!!!! |
Beetle654 24.08.2004 18:12 |
Hmm... Heaven for Everyone, Las Palabras De Amor, DEFINATELY Liar and Death on Two Legs. I also like some of the lighter sounding things on A Night at the Opera, like Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon and Seaside Rendevous. ... I still LOVE Liar, though. :) |
the oppositionist 24.08.2004 18:39 |
Spread your wings. I think it had such good potential and its so relaxing and catchy and makes you think. damn half of us dont have dreams to chase after, but damn it *wipes away tear* sammy sure did! *sniff sniff* |
little foetus 24.08.2004 18:42 |
underated by people ou underated by the group? by people, i would say that the whole album queen II is quite unknown although it's one of the best albums from queen. Otherwise, "you take my breath away"," spread your wings", "great king rat", "liar" and "teo toriatte". There are many songs the group could have played several years after the creation of these songs as "don't stop me now", "spread your wings", great king rat, white queen, ogre battle and teo toriatte which they didn't play enough... |
RedSpecial227 24.08.2004 19:50 |
Here is the finals, All the votes have been counted, and only the ones with 4 or more votes made it. So vote ONLY on these 4! My Melancholy Blues Dead On Time Nevermore Keep yourself alive We'll see who wins |

Out of those four, Dead On Time or My Melancholy Blues. |
Saint Jiub 24.08.2004 20:45 |
KYA - IMHO - although it is not really underrated. My old poll of 30 zoners found these ratings of these 4 songs out of 188 Queen songs: 21 KYA 37 N 65 MMB 85 DOT |

My Melancholy Blues ... mmph. That's a song if I've heard one. Fred's lovely voice on that -- ooh, terrific. That, KYA, POTU, In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited) -- there are loads of songs that don't get attention at all. Quite sad. |
onevsion 24.08.2004 22:33 |
cool cat. I love that song. Great rythem and Freddie's voice is fantastic there! |

Bohemian Rhapsody :P It should be at least 10 weeks on nr.1.... |
deleted user 25.08.2004 05:06 |
I think its sad how when you ask somebody "hey, have you heard of queen?" and they go "are they the ones that sing we are the champions?" and thats the only song they know. I have a lot of favorite songs like:Long away, It's late, melacholy blues, In the lap of the gods (both versions), dear friends, misfire, Living on my own, barcelona, you don't fool me, and a whole lot more. I think all of their songs are wonderful! |
Smartie 25.08.2004 09:21 |
For me its -"Scandal"..beautiful song! Great lyrics.. - "Was it all worth it" which is like an earlier "Show must go on" to me - "Ride the wild wind".. gives me the feeling of freedom, similar to Breakthru - "Sail away sweet sister" |
♥Killer_Queen1946♥ 25.08.2004 21:40 |
Misfire, Bring Back That Leroy Brown, Teo Torriatte, It's Late, Seaside Rendezvous, Death On Two Legs(Dedicated to.....), Liar, Keep Yourself Alive, Love of My Life, The Prophet's Song, If You Can't Beat 'Em Join 'Em, Mustapha, Flick Of The Wrist, and many many more. I love them all. But I don't hear those alot. |
RedSpecial227 25.08.2004 22:23 |
There are so many, but for this poll I am saying My melancholy blues was overlooked and shouldn't have been. SO THE WINNER IT!>>>>>!!!!!!!! MY MELANCHOLY BLUES |

As said...Long Away, and In the lap of the Gods..revisited. |
Albyboy 26.08.2004 12:20 |
Very intelligent considerations by everyone of you!!! IMHO I would say "My Melancholy Blues", since I don't think "Keep Yourself Alive" to be under-rated that much... ... Let me point out another nice song that I have been loving since I was a child: "You and I"... ... Yes, I know that it may be considered as nothing special (while it gives me strong feelings everytime I listen to it) but it shows how you don't need to make fireworks in order to write good songs...
