The Observer monthly music supplement has a regular Top Ten feature. This month's feature is "Top 10 Stage Sins and Crimes". Queen feature at Number 8 for their Live Aid perfomance. The Sin is "Intellectual Sloth" it says........."The laziest, stupidist performance ever. This was a day to raise funds for the starving, to show compassion and give music a purpose beyond entertainment. So what does Freddie do? Get a whole stadium shooping along to "We are the Champions", that's what. Didn't anyone else think this song was just a little inappropriate?" This was written by CAMPBELL STEVENSON who goes on to say in his justifications that "...as far as sins at big events go, Queen's chump version of'Champions' beats all-comers. Can you get arrested for hubris and stupidity? If only it were so....".
Does this irk you, set you teeth gnashing. If so let him know! You are invited to comment on this by e-mailing the Observer music magazine at: omm@observer.co.uk or join the talkboard at: link. You can even snail mail oMM, 119 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3ER.
I take it that Rockin' All Over the world was chosen as the ideal opener due to its compassion?
