Anyone like to share their more memorable moments as a Queen fan
For me it was witnessing the Lve Aid performance in a pub, and seeing the whole pub go quiet and watch with awe the queen performance.
Also, entering HMV to buy the "Heaven for Everyone" single and seeing people queing to buy the single.
- Hearing Heaven for Everyone for the first time in October 1995.
- Seeing Brian in Utrecht 1998
- Brian and Roger walking on stage in A'dam 2002 - not a brilliant performance, but I still get goosebumps when I listen to that recording.
well i had to say that i feel really proud of being a queen fan specially in two moments:
- The first time i went to a concert of a Queen tribute band, and see that i wasnt the only one MAD for queen music... it was thrilling !
- one day i go to the subway... and on the TV of the station, they played the Wembley Dvd and see how EVERYBODY in the station looked the songs paralized, from old ones to childrens.... and the most part knew the songs....
- The first time that my 3 y/o daughter came to me singing "we will rock you" :)
Waiting like a dumbass all day and going around the Marriot Hotel in Times Square NY, going up and down expecting to see Mr. Brian May.
That was the day of the 'Songwriters Hall Of Fame'. I'm still pissed off I didn't see him... oh well.
When they showed Queen on a Mexican tv news program, they were talking about the musical, it was so cool, and then the anchor said "The show must go on, just like Freddie said" so cool
Well of course my favorite was seeing Queen live at age 7.
But I remember being a freshman in college in 1991 (in Iowa), taping Kurt Loder on MTV saying Freddie had died and watching their little 2-3 min. montage of his life over and over. I just couldn't believe it. At the end they froze the video and just showed a couple still images of his face, like the news always does when someone dies. Except this time it was Freddie Mercury so it was really weird.
I had been a Queen fan since age 5-6 so I was used to seeing their pictures and hearing them just like they were sort of part of my family, since I knew all about them as long as I could remember. I was starting a new stage of my life with college, being far from home, coming out of the closet, etc., so I kind of matter-of-factly thought "well that's the end of childhood." And hardly anyone else even knew who he was which pissed me off. (My parents were really into music so I'd started listening to the radio probably 10 years before my friends.)
But then a year later was the tribute concert and it seemed like every room in the dorm had it on which was the total opposite of the year before. Everyone came up to me saying how cool Queen was since their favorite bands were at the show :)
Really one only. Someone coming to me and asking which album 'You're my Best Friend' was released on. Oh my God they got an answer they didn't want. I went on for 20 minutes about A Night at the Opera.
And probably seeing the musical.
Goingback: i made similar experiences than you. I just finished the last tests at school when the news came out that Freddie had died. I really felt like it was the end of my youth. On my last school day there had been a big party and i had my personal tribute to Freddie by performing "as him" on stage in front of 1000 cheering pupils. A very touching moment - although I did a mimed performance (playback) - cause it showed me how many people liked Freddie and Queen.
Besides from that: to the most memorable moments in my "fan-life" belong the three Brian-concerts in Hannover, Hamburg and Groningen which I saw - and meeting him personally in Munich 2001.
