i know some bands have a few good songs, but what i wanna know is how did Queen get to the point where almost every song they wrote was a good song? and i'm not saying that just because i like Queen. they are so talented |
Adam Baboolal 10.08.2004 12:58 |
Good question. One that holds many different answers, from Freddie's early music beginnings in India, to John's when he picked up a guitar. And of course, don't forget the producers that helped Queen to understand how to build up songs in different ways. I think their last, David Richards, played heavily in the last albums. Can anyone throw more ideas on this one? Peace, Adam. |

Practice! |
lottie88 10.08.2004 14:35 |
Hmmmm..... How about practice, perseverance, pure raw talent, creativity, and perhaps a little bit of luck! Of course I am sure there are loads more that can be said on how Queen became the rock gods they are. |
queen_forever_87 10.08.2004 14:50 |
It's because they all have creative minds, none of them could have made it on their own... OK, Freddie would have come pretty far, but he would never have achieved the greatness Queen reached. It's just the talent of the four guys together, they can't do that alone... |
Pim Derks 10.08.2004 14:56 |
Because they were brilliant. |

"How did Queen get so good?" Magic. |
tomnever 10.08.2004 15:41 |
2 main things for me : - Because the four of them were so different - Because all of them are clever people (and educated people, remember they are all post-graduate) and didn't see the interest of splitting or fall into drugs |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.08.2004 16:39 |
They were just the perfect blend of talent, practice, perserverence, and will to succeed. |
Billie 10.08.2004 16:50 |
And don't forget a good early promotion |
Eirik Drange 10.08.2004 17:42 |
practice I suppose :) |
Music Man 10.08.2004 17:56 |
It's their magnificent chemistry of course! I mean, think about it: What could the heat of reaction for the reaction of calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate and dihydrogen monoxide be? Yes, you are right. It's -72.7 kJ! It's so obvious now why Queen are such a great band. |
Sebastian 10.08.2004 18:35 |
I'm a GnR fan, so I find all of their songs interesting (and most of their covers). This forum is almost entirely of Queen fans, who find all or most of Queen songs interesting. Same story. Or a Beatles forum or an Xtreme forum, etc I think , personally, that all pro bands (from Kiss to Bangles) put their effort in building up each song to stand up in its own right. |

I think that Queen became so good because of a couple of things: 1) Freddie Mercury's talent 2) The wright musicians to play with him 3) capable of writing all good songs themselves and everyone has different characters 4) very clever/consistent marketing. I think we don't have to forget that. Queen is not the best band in the world, but Freddie is the best singer. Queen would have been rubbish without Freddie (AS EVERYTHING AFTER MADE IN HEAVEN IS) |

They would've been very different without Fred, but it's true that they would not have been as successful. But I think you have to credit the three of them for No-One But You. that was a good track. Everything else they've done is really re-hashing old ground, so doesn't really count. I thought Roger's 46664 tracks were ok. But yes, they miss Mr Mercury (for inspiration as well as his talent) |
Voice of Reason 2018 12.08.2004 08:28 |
One thing that the Tribute Concert brought home to me and was later confirmed by Made in Heaven is that the three remaining members of Queen are bloody great musicians. They should still be working together and making new music! |
queen_forever_87 12.08.2004 15:34 |
I know the answer!!!! It's just because: QUEEN ROCKS!!!!!!! Forever and ever and ever.... |
the oppositionist 12.08.2004 18:38 |
They took the best of their own legendary idols such as the beatles and added to it |

"but Freddie is the best singer. Queen would have been rubbish without Freddie (AS EVERYTHING AFTER MADE IN HEAVEN IS" STEPFORD ALERT! Come on, There are far better rock singers then Freddie, there are far better pop singers then Freddie. Everything after made in heaven? That would be 1 song? |
Music Man 12.08.2004 21:55 |
Could somebody explain to me this "Stepford" thing? |
high-flying-adored 12.08.2004 22:30 |
Fred said it himself, that the band were nothing without each other. So there you've got it -- all for one, one for all, and magic. And that doesn't even include mentioning talent, tremendous as it is. |

Gunpowder Gelatine 12.08.2004 22:36 |
For me, Freddie is one of the best, if not the best, singer. Call me a Stepford, but his voice just takes music to another level. |
Adam Baboolal 12.08.2004 22:42 |
I have to agree with Gunpowder Gelatine. I never find Freddie's voice boring to listen to on any album. He always had something that a lot of singers don't have. The delivery, his tones, the conviction in the words, etc. Plenty that I just don't find in many bands these days. Though, they are out there. :) Peace, Adam. |
Holly2003 12.08.2004 23:02 |
I expect many casual fans think a lot of Queen albums have 2-3 really good songs but the rest are duds. A Day at the Races, The Game, AKOM, & The Miracle come to mind. |
joeyjojo 12.08.2004 23:10 |
" Fred said it himself, that the band were nothing without each other." I guess I agree with Freddie. On their own, I never found any of the members music particularly listenable. Many of their solo efforts were almost laughable. None of them have really held up the test of time (All IMHO, of course). But, together, for whatever reason, they clicked and really came up with some amazingly diverse and original work. Also, let's not forget that they certainly produced a handful of bad songs too. ;o) Their 80's stuff is a bit dated, but I find their 90's work and especially most of their 70's stuff still sounding surprisingly fresh. |
rogut 13.08.2004 07:49 |
I wouldn't normally pick up on something like this, and Drs DAJA's English is far better than my Dutch, but "Freddie´s voice reached the highest nuts" is possibly the most apposite typo I've ever seen !!! Nice one ! Rog |
Lord Blackadder 13.08.2004 12:14 |
Some people are just fucking great songwriters, and when you get 4 together it's just brilliant, like Queen. |
Adam Baboolal 13.08.2004 12:17 |
Wait a mo, you don't think Brian and Roger have had great solo song efforts? Dang... Peace, Adam. |
