...yet it seems like nothing makes a woman feel more insulted than being called FAT, regardless of how she looks? I just can't believe how constantly manipulated our society has turned by the media. It seems like these days a girl can't be barely around 140 pounds without being considered fat. The worst part is that now looking like a freakin' broom stick seems to be the way to look. Just look at all those supermodels like Kate Moss who have a body like the crypt keeper, and yet lots of women wish to look like that. What makes me sick is all the criticism that actresses like Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, or Cristina Ricci get for looking "fat", when they look perfectly beautiful. I guess the media thinks that the definition of a beautiful woman is the one who has all her bones sticking out of her flesh. Pretty much every single female friend I have constantly complain about how fat they feel. Especially now that it's summer and they want to wear loose clothes. Many of them feel ashamed of how they look without even being fat. How do you guys (especially the girls) feel about this? |
Music Man 10.08.2004 11:09 |
I like skinny girls. I don't really know what you are talking about concerning "bones sticking out of their flesh" though. That's called malnourishment...or compound fracture...but I am talking about fit girls. Most models and girls I see are fit, not lacking. There are a few exceptions, but that is how it generally is. |
Mr.Jingles 10.08.2004 11:14 |
I'm not saying that it's always bad to be skinny as long as you're not completely and constantly forcing yourself to become skinny. Some girls just have that metabolism and that's safe and natural. What I have a problem with is going beyond being skinny. My point is that some girls are way too concerned about their weight, and most of them don't look fat at all. Take for instance the term "model" and it's connotations... then we have the term "Supermodel" as if their bodies and looks were the ideal for all women to follow when pretty much every single supermodel weighs under 110 pounds. |
breanna902000 10.08.2004 11:38 |
guys women like to be thin and look good for the men , well when you call them a bitch they dont get mad they think its respect , and if you call then skank and so on..... , they sorta tune you out. |
Mr.Jingles 10.08.2004 11:50 |
To me a woman who is 130-140 is thin, and I know a lot of guys feel the same way... not all though. My problem is with the media making people think otherwise. |
Sir Archie 'Tiffany' Leach 10.08.2004 12:44 |
Are you feeling guilty because you dabbled with a fat bird at the weekend? |
deleted user 10.08.2004 12:48 |
I'm naturally skinny and I get a lot of comments about my weight. In a way, I think no matter what weight you are, a woman/girl is still going to have that little bit of insecurity...cos that's just the way women are. It certainly doesn't help to see flawlessly beautiful women on magazines, etc, saying "This is how you have to look." |
MexQueenFM 10.08.2004 12:50 |
models are really thin nowdays, i want meat on the bones, just like J.Lo taht's a good one, not like Paris Hilton, that's disgusting |
Mr.Jingles 10.08.2004 12:59 |
don't forget Salma, Mex. |

whore, a slut, a bitch, a skank... Actually I would be offended if someone would call me that. Call me fat....seems to be the least humiliating or painful. Besides, it all depends on how I feel. I know I am not fat, so why should I care. Then again, I also know I am not a whore, yet somehow it feels degrading when someone calls me that. Know what I mean? Other than that, I despise the media (and men, not all men, but some men)who make girls and women feel like they have to have no fat at all, so you can count their ribs and make them believe that they look great once they look just like skeletons. And then what? Then they need cosmetic surgery, cos guess what, their tits disappeared as well! Wow, are those made of fat? Yes. A woman's body is naturally more fat than a man's body. That's how it's supposed to be. And I have yet got to meet the first (hetero-)man who doesn't like a woman with curves. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.08.2004 16:53 |
I think most women would be insulted to be called any of those, but for some reason, most of us take fat to be most offensive. It's probably because of all the insanely thin celebrtities, because they're our role models in a way, which is sad, because they're always dieting, always exercising, always having to be perfect for the camera. But I think that a lot of regular women associate celebrities with being perfect, therefore, thin is perfect. |
Music Man 10.08.2004 17:03 |
Yeah, proper dieting, nutrition, and exercise is not something we want to be teaching our children. Go obesity epidemic. Anyway, you can't just give a weight and say that that is thin, normal, fat, etc. It's all relative to height and build. |
Sir Archie 'Tiffany' Leach 10.08.2004 18:11 |
Pipe down fatty. |
Mr.Jingles 11.08.2004 08:28 |
There's a big difference between trying to keep yourself in shape by dieting and excercising, to going far beyond that... which leads to an eating disorder that causes bullimia, depression, and anxiety. |
geeksandgeeks 11.08.2004 11:01 |
Thank you, Dan. At last check, and it usually doesn't change that much, I was about 125 pounds - I'm about 5'3" and have a fairly broad build, so I figure that's right around normal. I do not have the willpower to diet anyway, I like food. And yet, I see these girls at school who are taller than me and weigh about 15 pounds less wailing about how fat they are. For God's sake. And I hear you about Christina Ricci & Co. Another who gets it a lot is Natalie Maines. Whatever happened to this being the era where we don't judge women based on whether they would fit under the door crack? |
Sir B.A Baracus 11.08.2004 11:30 |
Christina Ricci = HOTTIE!!!!!! |

Mr.Jingles 11.08.2004 12:18 |
For those of you guys who have taken art history, check your books... Look at the reinassance paintings. I bet you that those women painted on the countless masterpieces of that era were around 150-170 pounds. Back then that was considered beautiful. How come this society has to be so obsessed with bones? |

Music Man 11.08.2004 13:51 |
Times change. Anyway, I don't know what you are all talking about. It's very rare that I see girls who are unhealthy in any way due to their poor self image. |

Yes, it's sad to hear of such people with these mental disorders. It's hard for me to conceive having such a disorder, but I suppose it would be just like me imagining myself as a homosexual...or liking Robitussin. I still can't believe some people like Robitussin. It makes me want to throw up. |
Pluto 11.08.2004 16:17 |
that is the one think that i have problems with. I think that i am fat. Im 5'7'' and weigh about 130 and can never wear shorts because i think that i look like a cow. Part of this might be because my grandpa use to call me fats when i was younger. I am way to obsessed with my weight and when i try to tell myself i am fine i just think im even more ugly. Sorry for this but i needed to rant a little |
Music Man 11.08.2004 16:29 |
You really don't have any problems with your weight with numbers like that, just grammar. |
Pluto 11.08.2004 16:31 |
yeah i cant spell anything right |
Music Man 11.08.2004 16:44 |
No, you spell quite well. Much better than many other people. |
Pluto 11.08.2004 17:03 |
really or are u being sarcastict |
Music Man 11.08.2004 17:05 |
I'm totally serious. I was only talking about your grammar (i.e. the infamous run-on sentence). |
Mr.Jingles 11.08.2004 17:18 |
Pluto... 130 is not bad at all, even if you were 150 that's not bad either. I'm sure you don't look as bad as you think you do. The only thing bad about you is forgetting to include 'commas' and 'periods' on your posts. |
Music Man 11.08.2004 17:20 |
Thank you Captain Paraphrase. :P |
Pluto 11.08.2004 17:23 |
sorry i'll try to remeber to put grammer in from now on. |
Music Man 11.08.2004 17:25 |
It's nothing to apologize for and it's no vice to me. It was just a friendly suggestion as it is only a vice to yourself in the end. |
Pluto 11.08.2004 17:48 |
Thats true, and it would be better if I stared to use better grammer. |
the oppositionist 11.08.2004 18:02 |
I never had a problem with my weight until i went to university. at home, everyone was my size. but at uni, all girls are uk size eight to ten. sadly, people, especially alot of the boys at college, do judge girls on weight. sad thing is that women from size ten upwards to about 18 odd are actually the healthiest- they are more likely to conceive, often have more energy etc. theres lots of plus's. I must admit, despite being a strong minded girl, being among so many thin girls has dragged me down alot. the media has to stop now. |
Music Man 11.08.2004 18:05 |
The media doesn't change the general opinion of beauty, it only reflects it. |
the oppositionist 11.08.2004 18:28 |
thats like saying it only reflects the current opinion of fashion, but we all know that big companies on catwalk show dictate the years fashions. i think its common knowledge that being a stick is a bad thing, but people still do it because stars do it, and they appear in the media. a vicious circle |
Music Man 11.08.2004 20:34 |
It's sort of like smoking then. I think that if you are given all the facts, whatever you decide after you weigh and consider them is nobody's fault but your own. That is why I am against things such as attacking the media and big tobacco. |
the oppositionist 11.08.2004 20:42 |
Yes, agreed. I guess to some extent you can choose which way you go. but sometimes the pressure is so great to be perfect. womens weakness- wanting perfection/insecurity mens weakness- competitive streak. and a few more :D |
Music Man 11.08.2004 21:04 |
Yes, and many other various weaknesses unique to each person. Normally I would give examples here, but I think I'm going to go to sleep instead. |
geeksandgeeks 12.08.2004 11:42 |
pluto...5'7" and 130? Having never seen a photograph of you, that's a great figure! You can probably spare a few very large pieces of pecan pie (or whatever your preferred desrt is), just let yourself enjoy them. Food is too delicious to worry about. And to Music Man - this weekend I'm going to go watch John Kerry give a speech. If you'd like to come, I'm sure no one would mind :D |
Music Man 12.08.2004 13:46 |
I love food. I also love my ability to consume large quantities of food and maintain my figure without the aid of cocaine or ephedra. By the way, where is Senator Kerry making such the speech? It makes me wonder how many Kerry Edwardses there are in the United States - and how many of them bought posters, signs, or stickers from the campaign... I know I would. |
