I basically like all Brian May solos a lot. There are very few guitarists who could even come close to instilling as much emotion into his or her solos as did he. Also, his versatility is amazing. He could play the most emotionally piercing phrases in one song, and in another place the most fun, buoyant licks. He has a knack for knowing what sounds good and what fits. He can tell an original, involved story with each individual note, phrase, and song. Anybody else's opinions?
I agree with you, Music Man. I don't think Brian gets enough recognition for being an amazing guitarist. I love how his guitar work is just so recognizable; you can hear it somewhere and just know it's him.
Yes, I almost forgot, his tone. His amazing and unique tone. As unmistakable as Freddie's voice it is, and as much a part of the Queen sound.
He may not shred like the best, but what he is best at is expression, which I think is the greatest skill a guitarist can have.
